Would you buy a home within a mile to tip/recycling centre?

Just wondering how bad it could be or if it would put other future buyers off?

Yes. A mile is a long distance! Within a hundred yards, maybe not.

trinity0097 · 10/06/2018 20:19

Agree, right next door no, but a mile - yes, ours is and it’s a godsend when you need to go to the tip!

Mondy · 10/06/2018 20:19

We've just bought a house within a mile of a council recycling centre. The current owners are moving to a house which is actually nearer to it. Can't say that it was even on my radar, other than it being quite handy to be near to it in these days of minimal rubbish collections.

LightAsTheBreeze · 10/06/2018 20:20

We live about a mile from the tip/recycling centre, it’s quite handy.

Laineymc7 · 10/06/2018 20:20

We are currently renting just by one and don’t even notice it. If it’s a council run one they tend to be pretty well run and never smell. It wouldn’t bother me unless I looked onto it.

MintTeaLady · 10/06/2018 20:20

Ours isn’t just under one mile away and it is absolutely wonderful! I can’t imagine having to travel any further than that now.

missbehaving1000 · 10/06/2018 20:21

I wouldn't. There's a really beautiful stately home in my area that's next to one. You've only got to read their wedding reviews to see that if the wind is blowing in the wrong direction the smell is awful. People's big days have been ruined because of it so I wouldn't even consider moving anywhere near one for that reason.

PickAChew · 10/06/2018 20:21

Yep. It's really useful having it so close!

LightAsTheBreeze · 10/06/2018 20:21

It would be a right pain to live miles away from it

PETRONELLAS · 10/06/2018 20:22

I’m within a mile and love it.
I definitely wouldn’t like any composting business to be going on though so check that and also the operating hours.

BakedBeans47 · 10/06/2018 20:23

Yes. I’d live even nearer our local one tbh as it doesn’t smell, it’s not got food waste

NoSquirrels · 10/06/2018 20:23

Think it depends if you mean landfill site (no) or recycling centre (yes).

amymel2016 · 10/06/2018 20:24

Do you mean a recycling centre where people drop off their recycling/waste or a recycling plant? Recycling centre absolutely no problem, wouldn’t mind living near/next to it. Recycling plant would depend how much I like the house but probably wouldn’t put me off.

LightAsTheBreeze · 10/06/2018 20:25

OP are you talking about a council run one or one of those ones which are in the news every so often which people campaign about

DowntonCrabby · 10/06/2018 20:26

I think we’re around that to our local tip. It has literally zero bearing on anything regarding our lives. other than handy waste disposal

WolfMcWolferson · 10/06/2018 20:26

My DP owned a place three streets over from a tip. He is not particularly daft or unaware, but when I said we should take some stuff down there he insisted there wasn't a tip in the town... Hmm

Think you'll be fine OP, wouldn't even cross my mind.

SlowlyShrinking · 10/06/2018 20:27

I live within about half a mile, and I’ve never given it a thought really, except when I need to take something to the tip and it takes about 5 minutes 🤷‍♀️

StruggsToFunc · 10/06/2018 21:19

Drive past on a summer Saturday afternoon and check what the traffic is like. Our local one causes absolute chaos when it’s busy, with cars queuing way back along the road.

Buteo · 10/06/2018 22:30

A mile away should be fine but I’d still check it out.

Our local Council recycling centre takes a lot of green waste and it truly stinks in hot weather.

NevermindMyMind · 10/06/2018 22:37

DH is always there after doing DIY at home so I'd find it handy really!

BitOfAKerfuffle · 10/06/2018 22:38

Ours is under a mile away and is right beside the school. Can't say I've ever noticed it, no smell and it certainly feels far enough away from my house to notice it ! In not sure I would want to live right next to it or across the road purely because it's not the nicest view but nothing else would worry me at all wouldn't even be on my radar if it was a mile away

BouleBaker · 10/06/2018 22:40

Our tip used to be 500 yards away. That was fabulous. It wasn’t the landfill though, just the collection centre.

AlonsoTigerHeart · 10/06/2018 22:45

Mine is 0.5 apparently Shock i thought it was about 1 and a half, obviously i cant judge distance wellGrin

No problems here.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 10/06/2018 22:46

We live less than a mile from our local one. It’s a small town about 2.5 miles from one end to the other so it’s hard to be too far away from it. Never even entered my radar apart from it being handy.

cece · 10/06/2018 22:48

Olive within a mile from one now and it's fine . Very handy for getting rid of rubbish.

Our last house was within a mile of a sewerage works. That was also fine.
