Would you buy a home within a mile to tip/recycling centre?

Just wondering how bad it could be or if it would put other future buyers off?

Why wouldn't you? Ours is I suppose.

DwangelaForever · 10/06/2018 23:09

A mile Hmm

usernotfound0000 · 11/06/2018 09:06

Wouldn't even see this as an issue. Our local one is about 1/4 mile away and it's really handy, other than that it has no impact on us whatsoever.

MsHomeSlice · 11/06/2018 09:13

yes, I think you are confusing tip with landfill

the local tip/recycling centre is not going to smell but your average landfill absolutely reeks...there's one on the outskirts of a local town just near to loads of lovely swanky new homes...it's utterly beyond me why anyone would even consider buying one of those houses, the smell is awful sometimes

they cannot possibly ever have the windows open, or enjoy the garden, or hand out washing :v

ScattyCharly · 11/06/2018 09:14

I should think it’d be great. Councils are collecting litter less and less often. You could run your litter up to the tip when you go out in the car and you’d be rid of it.

Would you be on the main queueing part leading up to the tip? Queues at tips can be a real issue for being able to get through nearby streets.

gamerwidow · 11/06/2018 09:14

I’m within a mile of two recycling centres it never smells and it’s handy having them local.

Buteo · 11/06/2018 09:31

the local tip/recycling centre is not going to smell

I can guarantee that our local household waste recycling centre reeks, especially in warm weather.

thecatsthecats · 11/06/2018 09:59

I think ours is about a mile as the crow flies (about a 2 mile drive due to various hills, train lines, rivers etc). Have never had even a remote whiff.

The first thing that would put me off living closer would be the queues on busy days! If my commute had to cross the backed up traffic, then that would be an issue.

FizzingWhizzbee · 11/06/2018 10:10

Yes. Definitely - assuming I liked and wanted to house. I live less than a mile from a sewage treatment plant, which is waaaay worse than a council tip on the 'things you don't want to live near to' list, but honestly you would never know it was there if someone didn't tell you, and it keeps the house prices affordableSmile

I wish the tip was a bit nearer, TBH!

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 11/06/2018 11:04

I'm 1.9 miles away (just checked!) and it's not an issue at all. Another 0.9 miles wouldn't make a difference. Never thought about it, more that it's convenient being so close.

MeMeMeow85 · 11/06/2018 11:20

Depends if it is a dump for everyday rubbish or a recycling centre for paper/cardboard/plastics... I wouldn’t mind the recycling centre, but no way to the other

TheClitterati · 11/06/2018 23:10

There's one quite close to me. I didn't even notice until after I moved it. It's not been any issue at all.

LightAsTheBreeze · 12/06/2018 04:11

The previous post from bionicnemonic is a link to a landfill site which is completely different to the recycling centre I live near, OP is not clear whether it means recycling centre or landfill, maybe OP could clarify.

Tack · 12/06/2018 12:48

We just bought a house 0.6m from our local Recycling Centre, totally didn't even think about it being an issue when buying. Has a Country Park between us though. But imho 1 mile is ages away so I don't think many people would even consider it being close when looking around (unless you have really good views towards it from a bedroom window or something if you are on a hill?)

headinhands · 12/06/2018 12:51

Not sure what your local tip is like but mine doesn't smell and is very organised. It'd be handy to be closer. I've never heard of it being views negatively to have one nearby.

Fields covered in manure though? Ugh.

headinhands · 12/06/2018 12:53

People's big days have been ruined because of it so I wouldn't even consider moving anywhere near one for that reason.

You must mean an open landfill surely? The general black sack waste containers at a recycling centre are emptied too frequently for smell to be a problem.
