New house full of spiders HELP

IndieTara · 07/06/2018 21:53

Recently moved house and the new house is full of spiders.
I'm scared to death of spiders and I'm finding them everywhere. Everywhere.

I'm being brave and vacuuming them up as I go. ( don't hate me for vaccing them there are too many to catch under a glass and put outside plus I don't think I could do that anyway )

They're in cupboards, behind lights and tonight I found a big one in a saucepan!

I cant get into bed without checking and I'm sure there must be many more than the ones I've seen.

How can I stop them coming in and/or get rid of them?

I need help.

@KellyAnderson I'm pretty sure those souls were there before I moved in

I am absolutely terrified of spiders. My life revolves around not dealing with a spider. My advice..... Spray peppermint oil everywhere!! Every nook & cranny. Esp round Windows & door frames. Conkers do not work. I found a spider sitting on top of a conker. I had conkers everywhere. If the house has been empty for a while with no vibration I.e people walking, shutting doors etc they think they are safe. They will go once they realise your here to stay. Except the odd brazen one or two. It's awful. I'm on spider alert just reading this. Make your bed & tuck the sheets in every morn is my top tip. I feel your pain!

@user1510568216 I have to deal with them there's nobody else to do it. Although DD9 copes with it much better than I do.

Have you tried Indorex or Dethlac or similar?

I use Andorex spray to keep the house cat flea free, but a side effect is that it kills spiders. We live in a very old beamed house and when we moved in there were spiders everywhere! They love beams and every room in our house is full of beams (and was full of spiders). I hadn't noticed the effect it had until I started to find spiders curled up dead on the floor a day or two after spraying. I've not sprayed for 6 months and we are still spider free. It's up to you to decide whether you want to use something like this, but it certainly works. I bought it from Amazon.

CutesyUserName · 07/06/2018 23:01

Gah, Indorex spray, not Andorex, FFS!

DangerMouse17 · 07/06/2018 23:03

You need this OP
www.amazon.co.uk/Spider-Spray-Harmful-Repeller-Deterrent/dp/B00XGHFZAO/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ref=plSrch&keywords=no+more+spider&dpPl=1&dpID=51l%2BQPt8ENL&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1528408849&sr=8-1

I did kill a spider with it once by directly spraying in a panic Sad but spray it around nooks and crannies etc and spiders don't appear. They don't like the smell...

DangerMouse17 · 07/06/2018 23:04

I think it's clover oil as the main ingredient and spiders don't like it

IndieTara · 07/06/2018 23:06

I'm actually going to try all of these in the hope that they all work better together.

Hopefully my spiders won't feel like taking revenge Confused

Yeah peppermint round the doors and windows, and then they will never leave 😀 spray and they will find deeper darker places to hide, away from the spray. Like saucepans.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 07/06/2018 23:10

Seconding the plan to get another cat. Even useless cat who thinks she is a dog and couldn't catch a mouse to save her life (litually couldn't when she was semi-feral and starving) can catch spiders. We have very few left in the house or any other bugs.

LemonysSnicket · 07/06/2018 23:19

Cookers in corners of rooms, under bed etc. They hate the smell apparently.

PonderLand · 07/06/2018 23:27

Cats don't always work! Mine is useless, it's only interested in them if they're running? Do spiders run or just stick to a speed I'm not sure..

I could never go near them a few years ago, we lived in a cottage in the middle of fields with bare brick work. There was sooo many I couldn't cope with it, I couldn't catch them in the brick work due to the unevenness. Our last week in that house I slept in the spare room on a mattress on the floor due to spotting a huge one. In our new house I use weapons asap, if partners at home he fumbles about with a glass whilst I stand on guard with a welly. It's ridiculous and I really don't know why they freak me out so much!

Please set fire to your vacuum cleaner as far away from your house as possible.

@PonderLand my vac is one with a bag I've already been worrying about having to take it off and change it.

Have shivers just thinking about it

PonderLand · 07/06/2018 23:40

@IndieTara Shock you haven't emptied it? Is it outside?

Cutyourshakehole · 07/06/2018 23:40

True story. As long as they don’t drag all that hoover dust over your saucepans

PonderLand · 07/06/2018 23:43

PUT THE VAC OUTSIDE.

IndieTara · 07/06/2018 23:44

No the vac is in a cupboard

I've already found a spider in a saucepan

OP posts:
IndieTara · 07/06/2018 23:44

Maybe it could live in the porch

OP posts:
PonderLand · 07/06/2018 23:45

Or the shed

Cutyourshakehole · 07/06/2018 23:46

Sorry I can't do a colicky link.

NoSquirrels · 07/06/2018 23:49

Was the house empty gur a whole before you moved in? It should settle down - they’ve just been u disturbed for a while, I guess?

Still, the Indorex sounds promising!

IndieTara · 07/06/2018 23:50

Too many spiders in the shed!

I think mummy might be the big one hiding somewhere in my room

I'll be having nightmares now Shock

OP posts:
IndieTara · 07/06/2018 23:51

Couldn't use that hand held vac. Too close to the spider
