Is it strange to buy a house with double garage when you only have 1 car?

Thinking of buying a house that has a double garage but we only have 1 car. Would you do it? I think our car might look strange by itself?

I don’t think it would look strange at all! Would be great for extra storage

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 29/04/2018 11:52

Most garages that I know never have a car inside them, they are full of bikes, lawn mowers, old furniture and general crap. I think this is a non issue tbh. It would be like discounting a house because it had three loos but there are only two people wanting to live there.

Ginmakesitallok · 29/04/2018 11:54

Total non issue

Redcrayons · 29/04/2018 11:56

Seems perfect. Half the garage contains the car, the other contains all the crap you keep in the garage which would normally prevent you from putting the car in.

DailyMailcanfuckthefuckoff · 29/04/2018 11:57

Not at all! I'd love a double garage - think of all that lovely storage space! My DParents have industrial-style shelves around 2 sides of their garage and it's so useful for them.

MinaPaws · 29/04/2018 11:59

No. One side for the car. The other side for bikes, go carts, sledges, lawnmower, man kit etc. All takes up space and you don't want any of that stuff in the house.

AnnieOH1 · 29/04/2018 11:59

Total non issue. My parents have a 2.5 car garage with 1 car in then workbench and storage. We have a 1 car garage we don't use for the car, it's become the utility and dumping ground storage. I'd always rather have more space than less!

PalePinkSwan · 29/04/2018 12:09

Look strange to who? Why would they care?

Use the extra space for storage. Nobody I know actually uses their garage for their car anyway.

MsMcWoodle · 29/04/2018 12:14

I turned half my garage into a sewing room.
You can never have too much storage.

Jaxhog · 29/04/2018 12:14

We have a double garage and 2 cars, neither of which have ever been stored inside the garage! There isn't space for them.

QuinionsRainbow · 29/04/2018 12:48

Most of our double garage is full of gardening tools, bikes, things that DCs don't want in their rooms here or their flats but dont want to get rid of. The poor car hardly gets a look in!

glitterbiscuits · 29/04/2018 13:00

I always judge people on the car garage ratio.

Seriously?

sausagedogsmakechipolatas · 29/04/2018 13:13

Nah. We’re buying a house with a garage on the proviso that it will be converted to an office space whilst we use our driveway as a parking space for the car.

Chewbecca · 29/04/2018 13:14

Haha, I don't understand this worry at all.

GetTaeBed · 29/04/2018 13:15

Most people don't actually use the garage for the car!

HateSummer · 29/04/2018 13:15

Buy another car to fill in the space 🙄

Olivo · 29/04/2018 13:16

Nope. As everyone says, great for storage. We keep the car on one side, and the other side is for lawn hemower, bikes, DIY stuff and logs for burner. Also keep the patio furniture in the winter.

PandaPieForTea · 29/04/2018 13:18

Our neighbours store their car in their garage. I find that a bit strange.

chatwoo · 29/04/2018 13:18

it has to be better than squeezing between the car and the wall to get to things. And bikes etc would fit without getting in the way.

RexManning · 29/04/2018 14:28

Judging by us and everyone else that we know, it's stranger these days to store your car in the garage. Go for it - the storage is invaluable.

jedenfalls · 29/04/2018 14:29

I don’t know anyone who keeps a car in the garage.

isthisspring · 29/04/2018 14:31

We had a double garage, one was converted and the other stored things. The cars stayed on the drive.

UnimaginativeUsername · 29/04/2018 18:56

Our house has a double garage and we have only one car. I like to park it right in the middle of the drive. The garage itself is just used as storage. Grin

User5trillion · 29/04/2018 18:58

We have a double garage and have never put the car in it. There is too much stuff in it for a start.

Tiggy321 · 29/04/2018 18:59

Have double garage and 1 car. Rest of garage is filled with bikes, garden tools (no shed), extra fridge, freezer and endless amounts of junk. You will love the space!
