What do you think about this quote to fit my Howdens kitchen.

It’s a medium size kitchen from howdens. Approx 11 units. It’s doesn’t include the worktop fitting. No island.

£4.2K plus vat.

This includes removing the current kitchen which is smaller.

I think it’s very expensive. It’s the builder that is doing other building work for us.
This quote does not include extra electric points, lights or fitting any flooring.

He hasn’t started yet and no money has been spent.
We will wait for his response but in the meantime I have a carpenter/kitchen fitter coming over at the weekend to also quote.

How did his building work quote compare with others?
Have you given him the main building job yet?

afreshnewname · 01/03/2018 12:41

We had a new boiler fitted, full new central heating system and two radiators moved onto different walls for £1200

ihatethecold · 01/03/2018 12:47

His quote is fine for the rest of the job.
We got 3 quotes and his was about right and he is someone we feel we will get along well with.

Boiler wise, I'll assume oil boilers are pricer than gas, although I have no idea if that's true. I remember being quoted something like £1400 to replace an oil tank and bring it up to current standards 10 years ago, so I guess when you add that on it makes the boiler price seem more reasonable. Moving a boiler that distance shouldn't make a massive difference to the price.

I would say you could get that cheaper elsewhere, but it may not be significantly cheaper so given he's already doing work I would possibly consider just sticking with it.

Kitchen fitting it still shocking though.

Get some quotes. Just say you felt that the prices quoted were higher than you expected and just wanted to seek out some other quotes for comparison. He's making bumping up the price go over any possible problems with the build.
