Threesocks, it's great you have got dates now. We are still waiting for drawings and quote. It's been a year of planning....

Threesocks · 09/03/2018 14:27

@mum2015 that was us last year!! Spent so much time planning and now just want to get on with it!!

mum2015 · 09/03/2018 15:11

Yes threesocks. It has been so long. Anyway something will get decided this year, either extension started, or move or just decide to live as it is. I am quite minimalistic person and even though the plan is to double the size of the house, I can happily manage in current house.
For those starting with plan, don't underestimate the planning phase.

Bit of a shock last night, popped in to the house on the way home from work to check the builders had locked up and to check if any post had arrived (we've moved out and renting whilst work takes place). Scrabbling around in the dark with torch (electricity was off) as I walked through I was thinking this is weird it feels breezy in my living room, turned round to find the whole back of the house missing! Whole back wall completely gone, what used to be the old sliding doors and view of the garden was, well just the garden. Thought I'm not sure I want to see any more so quickly inched out, locked up, and left!

DustandRubble · 10/03/2018 08:50

That must have been a bit unnerving Humpty, walls disappearing make it all seem very real.

Threesocks · 10/03/2018 09:04

Oh goodness Humpty that must have been a shock - not sure that locking up the front will have made much difference if the back of the house is missing Wink

mum2015 · 10/03/2018 09:32

Dustandrubble,
Bathroom is gorgeous, very beautiful floor.

DustandRubble · 10/03/2018 12:27

We are back in the house. Everything is dusty and in the wrong place. And as we are not finished trying to find space for stuff is a complete nightmare. I am currently sat on a wooden foot stool trying to work up the enthusiasm to tackle my bedroom.

Humptynumpty02 · 11/03/2018 06:50

Threesocks, you're absolutely right locking up makes no differences whatsoever! Now the window company tell me due to the adverse weather conditions over the last couple of weeks there is now a 10 week lead time for the sliding doors so we are going to be open to the elements longer than we first thoughts.

We're making decent progress now after week 2 and after an age going through the planning and drawing stage to see the first set of bricks being laid and subsequently being able to finally see the outline of the new extension its making all that hard work pay off. Very happy to see the space forming. Yesterday was a productive day, deciding which flooring to go with settling on Amtico Spacia New England Oak and which course windows to go with (RAL 7030, have until Monday to change mind!) and spent lots of time last night working out the external lighting configuration. We push forward.

Humptynumpty02 · 11/03/2018 06:51

Colour, not course.

DustandRubble · 11/03/2018 08:36

Humpty will your builders board up the opening until the doors arrive? We have had an open back for ages but it is full boarded up so is secure & a bit warmer!

Baxdream · 11/03/2018 10:35

Dust your bathroom is stunning!

We are 2 weeks in to the loft conversion. No idea how it's going up there, as we can't get up anymore. I can tell you we are missing a roof, and the gable end has been constructed in wood. It's a bit draughty in our bedroom as part of the ceiling is where the old space saver paddle stairs to the loft were, so it's now a gap, with some insulation over it.

Baby's due date is 4.5 weeks, but currently lying breech, so potentially may be early, I really hope not, I was hoping to be a fair bit overdue so could get carpet and bed and hopefully ikea furniture delivered & assembled!

Does anyone have Pax wardrobes? We are planning on putting 2m of them along one wall, with chest of drawers either side. There is no problem fitting them on top of carpet is there?

Pootle40 · 11/03/2018 19:34

Hi all, we are shortly starting a 27sq m extension along the back of our house. We are removing two non load bearing walls (current utility and dining room) to create one large kitchen/diner/family room. We have our drawings done-hoping the single storey and height will mean a cert of lawfulness will be sufficient but may need full planning. We have been looking at a pronorm (German) kitchen. Excited and nervous about it all at the same time. Interested to hear from anyone who has done something similar and what your build costs were (excl supply of a kitchen).

Humptynumpty02 · 11/03/2018 22:49

hotcookie, absolutely no issue with putting PAX over carpet whatsoever. We have a 3.8m run of PAX over carpet. Just be careful as the gripper rods can make the wardrobes lean forward a touch so we used the supplied wall fixing brackets to fix the wardrobe to the wall and prevent toppling.

DustandRubble · 11/03/2018 23:01

Thanks Bax, still the shower to come, but I am very excited already. I tried out the bath tonight and it is great. And actually the shower attachment we had primarily for rinsing the bath out and the kids’ hair is surprisingly good to give a half decent shower until the main one is in.

When my hob is in tomorrow I will share pictures of the kitchen. It is looking fabulous too.

4yearsnosleep · 12/03/2018 04:26

Hi Pootle

We're doing very similar. It's 29.6sqm with one set of bifolds & 3 Velux windows. We haven't started yet, but we're looking at a total cost excluding the kitchen of £66000 (inc a 10%!contingency) That's with us painting it ourselves, a lot of electrics and wet underfloor heating. Our quotes ranged from £62k to £105k 🤔
