Miele, are they worth the extra?

We're just about to embark on a significant build and as part of that we will need new dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge/freezer etc. We've also been fans of spending money in the right way, if quality deserves it we'd rather avoid the 'buy cheap, buy twice' scenario.

So, we were all for spending a decent amount on these white goods, however us it worth digging deep to pick up Miele's instead? For example, is a £1200 Miele washing machine worth the extra over, say, a £600 Bosch machine? What is the extra paying for?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Yes in a word. My washing machine and tumble dryer are six years old and if you shop around and at the right time they often come with a ten year guarantee, I expect them to last many more years as my dishwasher is still going strong after twelve years. Miele customer service is excellent btw

I don’t know about Miele vs Bosch washing machines but I’d definitely go for a Miele dishwasher again. Our last one did sterling service for nearly 12 years but eventually gave up the ghost a few months ago. We replaced it with a cheaper Bosch as we’re not planning to stay in this house for much longer but I miss my Miele... the design was much better so you could fit loads more stuff in, meaning fewer washes and it was much better at washing and rinsing than the Bosch

Yes I think so. Our miele washer and dryer are 8 years old and still going strong. We did the cloth nappy thing for a couple of years too.

We have just moved from Beko/Samsung and before that some Bosch.

The difference was much more noticeable that I thought it could be. Especially the dishwasher which really surprises me. It is so well designed and built.

Just about to say same as above reply that Miele dishwashers are great. I’ve had Miele washers and dryers twice before (actually already fitted in the properties and included as part of the sale) and they were really good. Definitely a selling point! I don’t think they are necessarily worth the extra to buy (I’ve since bought other great white goods under different brands without paying the premium (found the Which reviews really helpful)).

Miele customer service is very good, although maintainence and spare parts carry a premium too (we had a Miele fridge/freezer. The handle was faulty a couple of weeks after the 2-year warranty ran out and was expensive to have replaced). Worth seeing if you can get the longer warranty someone mentioned above

I had a fit when my husband splashed out on a Miele washing machine at a time when we were very short of cash and had young children. Fantastic machine and it lasted nearly 20 years. Worth every penny.

The built in dishwasher in our house is 13 years old and the best one I’ve ever had.

Our Miele washing machine has literally just stopped working with a huge bang.
I’ve used it almost daily for TWENTY TWO years, through 4 kids and 2 dogs; cloth nappies, the lot. It even spent 8 years in a draughty old lean-to, where the pipes froze every winter!

I’ve also got Miele dishwasher, hoover, oven, steam oven and hob. I’m a VERY loyal customer. I’ve just ordered my next washing machine.

Top tip: don’t buy direct from Miele. Shop around.

Depends, i have had miele everything, from dishwashers, washing machines to fridges/steam ovens and built in coffee machines. I wouldn't have any of them again, dishwashers,apart from the top cutlery storage are no better than Bosch. Washing machines ditto, and last time I purchased one you couldn't pause the Miele for forgotten items, so again no good, but both of those aren't too bad.
However, avoid,avoid built in nespresso, fridges and ovens. Had loads of issues with all of these items and appalling customer service considering last spend with them was over £10k.

They're so worth it, I'd never have anything else having used most of their appliances for nearly 20 years with no issues at all.

Yes, bought it in 2004 and still working perfectly with one, maybe two loads of clothes washing every day. The man who delivered it said 'this will last until your youngest child goes to uni' and I think he's going to be right

We've inherited a Miele oven in our house. But one hinge is broken and the rubber seal...Miele are quoting £320 plus labour to fix.
I'm buying a new oven

Still haven't plumbed ours in so can't comment on quality, but we bought our washing machine and tumble from AO during their Black Friday sale. They worked out about £500 cheaper altogether waiting for that. Also got cash back from our credit card so worked out well.

There's also a Miele outlet in Oxfordshire, they release their stock weekly and the discounts are very good!

Fed up of cheaper ( but still expensive) white-goods that never really did the job, or not for long. Them tried a Bosch as an entry level Miele, wouldn't do that again. Now addicted to the hard stuff.

I've hung out on the JOhn Lewis website on a daily basis to get a reasonable price.

We have a Miele washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher, very happy with all of them.

With the washing machine I have you are able to add an extra item once the cycle has started. Not a big point for me, have only used it a couple of times but someone upthread mentioned you couldn't.

This was specifically washing machines and tumble driers.

Happy with out Beko dishwasher.

When we went to buy it we looked at the water consumption/ electric cost and worked out over a life span of 6 years (the guarantee it came with) it would work out cheaper than its nearest rival.

If mine stops working I would buy another one again.

We got a Miele washer in our rented house. I found the receipt for it when we moved in. It was bought in 1987

Hate my Miele washing machine. Stank of oil for ages after it arrived esp on a hot cycle. Made all my clothes go hard, needed to study the manual to understand how to work it, clothes coming out not clean. Miele customer service was terrible, they couldn't care less. After gagging gof months with it trying diff cycles and powders et etc have sacked it off and bought (well won actually - thanks Mumsnet!!) an AEG softwater machine. It's fab. Loads better and hardly need to use any powder. Great machine.

in my opinion yes. however my miele dishwasher is the exception and it is shit!!! so i don't know if that's any help. it's a stupid slimline one and it's garbage. i have to prewash then dishwash then post wash 1/3 of each run

On my second miele washing machine. The current one has been disappointing mainly due to the fact I cannot seem to get it to be quieter.

The customer service is excellent & I got a ten year guarantee so not so worried but may think twice when it needs replacing.

Like the look of the dishwasher though 😊

My parents bought a Miele vacuum cleaner when I was still at home - 33 years ago. It's a big ol beast so mum has traded it in for a Dyson cordless one, but it's still going!
