Miele, are they worth the extra?

We're just about to embark on a significant build and as part of that we will need new dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge/freezer etc. We've also been fans of spending money in the right way, if quality deserves it we'd rather avoid the 'buy cheap, buy twice' scenario.

So, we were all for spending a decent amount on these white goods, however us it worth digging deep to pick up Miele's instead? For example, is a £1200 Miele washing machine worth the extra over, say, a £600 Bosch machine? What is the extra paying for?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Miele dishwasher is amazing. I was deeply sceptical but it is the best thing ever. Cat and dog vacuum also good.

Yes definitely. Although they can be quite expensive the outcome is totally worth it.

Miele is definitely worth the extra. In the 13 years we have had Miele appliances we have only ever needed 2 service visits and have yet to replace anything.

I had a Bosch dishwasher. It was a Which? best buy and not cheap. All the inside bits were made of plastic, not metal, which meant taking the filter out to clean it was a revolting job - you had to paddle around in the dirty water at the bottom to get it back in. All kinds of food would get stuck in there. The Miele has a metal base and filter, and there's hardly anything ever in there, and it's dead easy to pop in and out.

Also, the Bosch gave me electric shocks when I touched the inside and anything else that was metal in my kitchen. I had it repaired twice, once under warranty, once not (£££). When it failed a third time, and Bosch were completely unreceptive to giving any help in spite of the fact there was clearly something really long term wrong with it, I bought a Miele. Bosch's customer service was rotten.

I can see I'm in the minority here but I've been disappointed with my Miele washing machine. It replaced my 15 year old Bosch and I didn't notice any difference in wash performance except that like a PP my clothes come out stiffer. Like a PP's machine, mine is also surprisingly noisy. It takes ages to do a standard wash (3 hours 20 I think) except when it decides of its own accord to do a speed wash. When you add laundry it reverts to the 3 hour cycle. I had wanted one for YEARS (yes, I know I'm a saddo). Next time I'll read Which, consider a wider range of brands and not put Miele on a pedestal.

We have a Miele washing machine and tumble and I would buy them again.

Washer is 12 years old and never had a problem with it. Dryer is 11 years old and had to replace lint collector tray and that’s it. Family of six so they get a lot of use.

We have just upgraded from Bosch to Miele (washing machine and dishwasher - the tumble dryer too when it is its turn!), and my brilliant washing machine/white goods engineer said that Hotpoint/Indesit/Beko etc are designed to last for 2-3 years, Bosch for 10 and Miele for 20, so although they are a big upfront investment, they are worth it. That said, I baulked at buying a £1200 Miele fridge when ours died recently, so we went with a less expensive cold cupboard

I have had a mid range Miele washer and a Bosch condenser dryer for nearly 8 years. Both used at least once a day in that time and we have young DC. I've washed duvets in the Miele, coats, ski gear etc. I think they're both fab. There is a well known fault on a Bosch dryer - the handle comes away leAving the door closed and you can't open it. DH (not at all handy around the house normally) bought two handles and a special tool and fixed it himself for £20.

My boss in work is desperate for his Miele washer to break as his wife wants one with a digital countdown. But they've had it for 20 years and the damn thing is still going strong.

I love LG washing machines - can open door mid cycle. We have just got a new 12kg one as do about 4 loads a day. Prefer it to my mum's miele

I have a bosch tumble dryer which is shit. Takes 3.5 hours to dry a cotton load. Have just bought a second one to help it out. it is a beko and is amazing!

We were contemplating a miele dishwasher. My parents is good but I'm now wondering after my beko experience if we are being hoodwinked a bit by the big brands. I have subscribed to which (hence the beko buy) and while miele is always highly rated, a lot of cheaper brands are often just 1 - 2% lower rated

Plus I went totally off Miele after that instagram midwife who is always begging for stuff online whinged so much that miele sent her a free washing machine and tumble dryer. Midwife could have well afforded them herself so I would have had more respect for miele if they had told her to naff off and donated them to a refuge

Dishwasher and tumble dryer and hob are brilliant. My Dw has a very low DBa and that was a big selling point for me. It is super quiet. My ancient Siemens washing machine is hanging on! I will buy a Miele when it gives up.

However my Miele built in coffee machine has been a disaster of late. It’s 6 years old, and keeps having the same fault. They have done the same repair to it three times and now say it needs a £600 part. There are only two of us using it so we hardly over use it.

I complained (by email) about the length of time it took to book an appointment because they do not answer the phone! I hung on for a total of 40 minutes one day waiting for them. I could have driven to Abingdon and knocked on their door quicker than that. They phoned and left a message apologising and told me to ring them - on the same number they repeatedly fail to answer. The coffee machine went wrong 2 weeks before Christmas. We are still waiting for the part and it’s not working. This is very disappointing and not what I would expect.

I have owned various similar Dishwashers from Bosch/Neff for 15 years Across multiple properties but kitchen guy persuaded me to get a Miele dishwasher to match the ovens.

It is SO much better and I wasn’t even unhappy with the old one!

Now just waiting for the washing machine to die so I can replace it with a Miele...3 years on the Indesit one bought by previous owner is still going strong but my sense of frugality won’t let me change it!

I’ve had my Miele washer dryer for 22 years. Replaced a Hotpoint. Once the initial guarantee ran out I changed to a local guy to do any repairs. Much cheaper than Miele. Not very much has gone wrong though. Latest thing was the water heater. Had other Miele appliances as well. Will buy Miele again when it dies.
