Is there a better way to get people to do stuff as being nice doesn't seem to be working for me!

I used to get better results from our builder by getting him to pop over for a chat then look him in the eye and tell him to do stuff. With a smile. It’s a bit intimidating but worked better than emails.

might have to use this technique again as not seen him recently.

TeamRick · 06/11/2017 12:03

So this morning twatchops came to collect his stuff which we put out the front for him last night

One of his minions came round in to the back garden and knocked on the patio doors I presume for the 4 pieces of plasterboard & 6 bags of plaster we hadn’t put outside. DS wouldn’t open the doors on instruction from us.

So we’ve had a text telling us he’s going to ring the police!
DH being reasonable said he’d send the money for the bags of plaster!

I have sent a photo and asked that if they’re coming back for anything they take the bricks, plywood & pallets they seem to have missed! 😡😡

Please help me not be as petty & small minded as he i! God what a horrible little man!

whisky (or should it be ginowl??), hope the packing went well - we did it in a panic and ended up just stuffing everything in the shed. Wish we'd sorted & decluttered at the time, as it's just sitting there, festering.

Rick aren't you lucky, I'm not sure DP knows what a stud wall is, let alone how to go about building one!

Some progress today - we finally have doors, and plasterer's booked for tomorrow. We wanted opening panels in them, for added ventilation but because the frames are so chunky, we've ended up with teeny tiny windows that I'm not sure will let much air in anyway. I suspect we'd have been better off with uninterrupted glass, but never mind. And somehow the door chaps broke a window while they were here, so am hoping they come back soon to repair it!

While all this is going on, our poor kitchen cabinets have mostly been stuck in the shed, or in the corner of the kitchen, being rained on. In hindsight we could have delayed delivery but didn't realise everything else would take this long Sad

TeamRick · 06/11/2017 12:18

Namedy in true twatchops style he’s done half of it but not finished it so DH just copying what’s been done so far! 😄

DustandRubble · 06/11/2017 13:28

Those of you with bifolds, did you get integrated blinds? I am indecisive about whether to do it or not.

TeamRick keep standing up to Twatchops, do not waver!

Tika77 · 06/11/2017 13:37

I am getting integrated blinds (well... ordered them at least). We get a lot of afternoon sun and want to keep it cool plus our house is quite visible from the path behind our garden and I don’t really like that anyone can just see in.

Tika77 · 06/11/2017 13:38

Teamrick, congrats on getting rid of him. Are you going to diy the rest or are you searching for someone to take over?

Tika77 · 06/11/2017 13:40

Namedy Is your kitchen wrapped in anything? Do you check on the units?

That’s one of my worries with my kitchen coming from abroad... timing it all. We have no more storage in the outbuilding, it’s to the brim with stuff, including the chest freezer that I defrosted and packed full of books.

whiskyowl · 06/11/2017 13:41

teamrick - I wouldn't even pay him for the bags of plaster! Doesn't he owe you £3k? Let them be your hostages while the small claims court decides if that's the route you're going down! Grin

I am actually not getting any blinds at all for my windows Shock. I'm planning not to have any covering. I don't know if this is going to be a huge mistake - the house isn't really overlooked at the back, but I don't really know how it's going to feel!

tentative3 · 06/11/2017 13:59

whisky we are not overlooked at the back and have no window coverings. I love it.

tentative3 · 06/11/2017 14:00

tentative3 · 06/11/2017 14:01

Oops. Sorry!

DustandRubble · 06/11/2017 14:19

We are not really overlooked at the back but it does get a lot of sun at the beginning of the day. The colour options we can have are just so dull! But I think we will need the option of either blinds or curtains and integrated blinds would be easy.

DustandRubble · 06/11/2017 14:20

Oh we chose our kitchen today! DH was adamant he did not want grey, until he saw the grey I was after and decided he did like it after all. So now I can join everyone else with having a grey kitchen.

Also can anyone recommend glass splashback suppliers? Not keen on the colours available from the kitchen suppliers so looking for an alternative.

Fourmagpies · 06/11/2017 14:25

I'm not getting blinds for our bifolds at the back. We're not really overlooked much. Hopefully in the summer when it gets hot, we'll be opening them! We have Velux windows in the roof as well that will hopefully help the air circulate! Our garden is west facing and it does get very hot at the back of the house in the afternoon which is why we didn't have a conservatory as it would be too hot.

Well done Rick Sounds like you are well rid! I wouldn't pay for the plaster either. Sounds like you probably have already paid for it, if he owes you money.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 06/11/2017 14:31

I can’t believe twatchops wants his plaster back, is he completely deluded?? I hope he calls the police so they can laugh at him!

I live in zone 2 London so overlooked by a thousand people, can’t imagine not having curtains or blinds (we have full length shutters) it would be like living in a fish bowl lol

whiskyowl · 06/11/2017 15:27

tentative - That is VERY reassuring. It's been worrying me!

dust - I am Envy of your sunlight. Mine's north-facing and in an extremely rainly part of the world Angry. In fact, I am building a pond right outside the windows so that I can turn the incessant winter rain into more of an entertaining spectacle. I'm hoping weget frogs!!

We need pictures of the new kitchen colour so we can admire it virtually!!

And whatthefox - I'm super-jealous of your zone two! Envy Envy Envy

Floor insulation is going down today in preparation for underfloor heating tomorrow! Then new fuseboard on Wednesday when I will also be 40, waaaaaaaaah, I am officially old. I have traded my posh meal out with DH to celebrate for a quartz splashback because I wuvs it so much. Going out with friends to the local instead!

DustandRubble · 06/11/2017 15:34

Don’t be too envious whisky, it is East facing so only gets sun for the mornings. One of the reasons for our bifolds and massive velux is to try and get as much light in for as long as possible.

Kitchen is Benchmarx Somerset Grey, let me see if I can get the photo to attach. We are not having curved units in the photo, all straight.

DustandRubble · 06/11/2017 15:35

And we are having walnut on the kitchen island, including down the sides on the short ends. And a white with grey granite on the back unit where the sink will be.

whiskyowl · 06/11/2017 15:37

Ooooooh dust it's going to be lovely!! What a gorgeous soft dove grey!

DustandRubble · 06/11/2017 16:30

I really hope so!

tentative3 · 06/11/2017 17:09

whisky if I can be even more reassuring ours is North facing too. Very light and bright without ever getting too hot. No need for window coverings at all and we live in the room - kitchen/dining/living - all day and evening.

NamedyChangedy · 06/11/2017 17:46

@DustandRubble it's beautiful! That's what I was hoping mine would turn out like.

We're north facing and don't need blinds either, it doesn't quite get bright enough. And our neighbours on either side would have to work really hard to peer in at us!

@Tika77 the kitchen is still all wrapped up apart from a couple of units we had to dismantle to get in, but worried that if anything's chipped or missing, I won't be able to contact them until it's too late. I'm sure it'll be fine!

DustandRubble · 06/11/2017 18:54

Ours will be nowhere near as big as their picture of it. We have units & sink along one wall and then an island with lots of drawers, a hob and a wine fridge. Grin

TeamRick · 06/11/2017 18:55

Oh beautiful kitchen Dust!
*
Name* I'm a little worried about my kitchen too, mines been hanging around since August!

No integral blinds or blinds/curtains at all here either! We're not overlooked at all, I'm not keen on just seeing black outside but I'm hoping when the garden is done & we have lights & stuff outside it won't seem so bad!

All quiet on the Twatchops front! I'm sure he's creating invoices & planning a whole new level of torture as we speak! ☹️
