Any downside to Lymm Cheshire - this sounds too good to be true!

Relocating to Manchester, so looking at Cheshire for location.
What do you think of this property? Property looks great, what's wrong with Lymm?

Property is lovely. There’s nothing wrong with Lymn, it’s a beautiful wee place.

HaveAWeeNap · 27/09/2017 22:21

Sorry! I changed from the autocorrect of ‘Lynn’ to ‘Lymn’...

hahahaIdontgetit · 27/09/2017 22:22

It is lovely isn't it. I just feel like there must be an issue. The local schools have great reviews as well.

The price, the fact it's quite an ugly house, plus the two nearest primaries are oversubscribed? If you need to commute to Manchester from there, it's a nightmare. The M56 is horrendous.

mumtri · 27/09/2017 22:23

Not a bad little place for a singleton or couple

DeadButDelicious · 27/09/2017 22:25

Lovely place lymm! I live in the same town. It is considered the 'posh' bit.

JoJoSM2 · 27/09/2017 22:26

The ground floor layout looks very odd: there's a big but awkward shaped open-plan area and two tiny rooms off it...

sourpatchkid · 27/09/2017 22:28

Woah! Are you moving from the south - 550 is LOADS for somewhere of that size. You'd almost get a mansion here for that price

SnowiestMountain · 27/09/2017 22:28

It's a beautiful place but it's quite far from anywhere, if you wanted to pop to Tesco of whatever you'd have quite a drive.

hahahaIdontgetit · 27/09/2017 22:30

Mumtri it's got 4 bedrooms, so I'm not sure your comment makes sense. Good to know about the commute into Manchester. Is there a public transport route in?

phoolani · 27/09/2017 22:31

Lymn is a great place if you’re looking for a place to die.
Sorry, couldn’t resist 😬 grew up round those parts and couldn’t wait to leave, it’s just not me (now live deep in the bowels of a big city). Lymn is a very naice place. I’m probably out of date, but I don’t think there is a downside to it. It’s quiet and posh, generally. Got a good golf club (as I am constantly told...).
If you like Lymn, you’ll love Hale - which may be a nicer commute? The traffic on the motorways around Lymn is horrendous, all the time.

crimsonlake · 27/09/2017 22:31

I agree if you need to commute to Manchester you need to be om the M56 by 7am to stand a chance.

united4ever · 27/09/2017 22:31

does look good that. I am fairly sure that road leads to the rugby club which often have events on but nothing to worry about generally. I go to the bonfire there every November which is quite big but only a one off. think lymm is very nice. handy for the motorway networks but you will be quite car dependent which puts me off a bit but depends how you live.

Clayhead · 27/09/2017 22:31

I would say lack of a train line would be the biggest downside of Lymm.

Lymm Dam is a lovely area.

hahahaIdontgetit · 27/09/2017 22:31

Are you around Cheshire sourpatch? We'd like to be near family.

OP posts:
busyboysmum · 27/09/2017 22:33

Lymm is lovely. But a bit out on a limb so far as public transport goes. Depends where you have to get to for work really.

busyboysmum · 27/09/2017 22:37

You might be better somewhere in the tram line if you have to commute. Altrincham Sale Timperley all nice with good schools. But not Cheshire of course so not rural.

hahahaIdontgetit · 27/09/2017 22:40

I looked at Altrincham and Sale but it looked more expensive for not as nice properties. Do they have park and ride? So could I drive to sale and them get the tram?

OP posts:
lollipop7 · 27/09/2017 22:40

It's nice but I would second Altrincham or Hale. I lived in Hale for a few years its lovely and Altrincham, cheek by jowl, with trams and bigger range of facilities. Plus there's a grammar school

My friend lived not far from that road in Lyme and to be honest it is lovely, very pretty but a little bit dull. She drove everywhere, and her drive to get on and off M56 was awful. Also a lot of through traffic,
Still all in all a nice part of the NW

sourpatchkid · 27/09/2017 22:42

No sorry I'm just being stereotypically Yorkshire, ignore me Smile

mumtri · 27/09/2017 22:42

My sarcasm was lost in text...

£550k and you're worried it's too good to be true?...

Meesh77 · 27/09/2017 22:46

I have two things to add - Phoolani - you are spelling it Lymn - My husband and I are from the area and we swear blind (independently of each other) that this used to be the correct spelling - however we can't find evidence of this.

It changed spelling, didn't it?!

Also, there are lots of plans to build on fields around Lymm. The locals are up in arms. I've noticed an increase in houses going on the market. Just check!

busyboysmum · 27/09/2017 22:48

Yes you can drive to Sale Water Park and leave your car there and get the tram.

You will end up doing a heck of a lot of driving though on very congested roads if you live in Lymm and want to go to Manchester daily.

namechangedtoday15 · 27/09/2017 22:49

Yes, if commuting into Manchester, there is no train from Lymm. Yes you could drive to Sale (or Altrincham or anywhere else on the tram line) but its not cheap to park (for instance, parking in Altrincham has gone up to £7 a day and the tram is £6.50 a day). Of course you can try to find a residential street where you can park but it means getting up early to get a spot, or parking a bit further away and walking to the tram.

You definitely get more for your money in Lymm than you do in Altrincham / Hale, £550k for a 4 bed isn't a bad price. Lymm is lovely, the village centre is very quaint and Lymm Dam is lovely. As others have said, there isn't as much going on as Altrincham or Hale (really buzzing at the moment with Altrincham Market etc etc) but Lymm has more countryside and is more picturesque.

lollipop7 · 27/09/2017 22:50

Lymm to Sale every day in rush hour?

Trust me you won't do it for long.
