So quote for properly fitting the log burner has come in at £1250. Not too bad

YogaDrone · 22/09/2017 16:04

Excellent Funnyface - well done!

Wow, your new EA has certainly started well Drspouse - good luck for your viewings! Fingers crossed for you Smile

£1250 doesn't seem too bad Gizlotsmum are you going to ask the vendor for a contribution or just suck it up?

We have a viewing later this afternoon. Fingers crossed - we need an offer, even a rubbish one, to show the vendor we've active and to stop the chain collapsing and so that I can get some sleep again Wink

Gizlotsmum · 22/09/2017 16:19

Think we will just suck it up ( think asking for a contribution will just delay things and suspect they need the money as they are taking their mortgage with them to the next property)

Gizlotsmum · 22/09/2017 16:20

Everything crossed for you yoga

drspouse · 22/09/2017 18:10

Aargh and DH hadn't got the keys from the old EA round the corner from the new one and the new one rang us 5 mins before the viewing to tell us. Which was also 10 mins before the school run.
So they have been postponed.

YogaDrone · 22/09/2017 18:16

Fair enough Gizlotsmum I'd do the same in your position I'm sure.

oh no drspouse that's annoying. Hopefully tomorrow will be smoother.

Our viewing didn't turn up Sad Bugger. Time for Wine DP has gone out to get us a take away. But at least the house is clean Wink

drspouse · 23/09/2017 22:16

One of the viewers has booked in again for Monday!

Gizlotsmum · 24/09/2017 07:30

Fab news Dr Spouse. A quick rebooking has to be a good sign

drspouse · 24/09/2017 08:54

Indeed! Though they haven't booked in twice.

drspouse · 24/09/2017 08:56

(Just me posting twice)

KitKat1985 · 24/09/2017 09:30

Great news drspouse! Crossing my fingers for you.

I asked for feedback on Friday from Tuesdays viewing and was told they thought the house was a good size, but had some other viewings to do yet. I've decided that saying 'we've got other viewings to do yet' is code for 'we're not going to buy it' so I've mentally written them off. We had two viewings yesterday morning though so I'll chase for some feedback on those on either tomorrow or Tuesday.

Gizlotsmum · 24/09/2017 09:35

Kitkat. I did loads of viewings in a short time and was asked for feed back on some before I had seen others. I have feed back similar but did say if I was interested. But it probably does mean they are shopping with their heads at the moment and it didn’t grab their hearts.

YogaDrone · 24/09/2017 11:24

Great news drspouse - fingers crossed for you Smile

You never know KitKat they might be keeping their power dry. Our EA advised us to see everything as much to get an idea of what we didn't want. When we bought our current house we saw others after we viewed it and it just confirmed that we liked this one best. We did the same with the house we are hoping to buy this time too. Hopefully yesterday's viewings will be productive Smile

After our Friday no-show disappointment we have a viewing this afternoon and another next Saturday. Hopefully Mr No-Show will reschedule.

MrsJW15 · 24/09/2017 12:32

Well our second viewers are still thinking about it, apparently. They love the flat but are worried about the noise (we live on a canal). So frustrating. EAs have only got feedback from half the people who came to our open house and we have no more viewings booked in. So not sure where we go from here!

Great news Funny and Gizlot that doesn't seem too bad. Drspouse fingers crossed for your rebooking.

Funnyface1 · 24/09/2017 16:29

Hi all. For my new house I'm porting over my current mortgage and borrowing a little bit more so I've had to do mortgagey things with my bank. That's all fine but they are desperately trying to sell me critical illness insurance etc.

I don't want to buy it because it's not a good deal at all and I feel I could do much better with life insurance. I've tried to put him off a few times but now he's really putting pressure on me. He's sent me out a thing to sign and booked me an appointment to go through all my medical history and get the ball rolling.

So I basically have to tell him once and for all that I'm not going ahead with it. He just seems so determined and I'm worried I'm going to piss him off and then he'll mess up my mortgage application.

Any thoughts? I'm sorry that's so long!

Gizlotsmum · 24/09/2017 18:52

Is the critical illness much more than your life insurance? I have both as it wasn’t that much more for the policy including critical illness and just life insurance ( critical illness also covers my children)

Funnyface1 · 24/09/2017 19:19

He wants to sell me a very expensive insurance that will pay off any remainder of the mortgage if one of us is terminally ill or dies. But I would rather buy life insurance as it is cheaper and pays out more. It would pay off the mortgage and leave some cash to look after the kids.

I know it sounds silly and I feel totally pathetic but this guy is so determined to sign me up to this and I've let myself get all stressed up about it.

PickAChew · 24/09/2017 19:31

Trust your instincts. This sort of hard sell is how the ppi scandal came about.

YogaDrone · 24/09/2017 19:45

Another no-show this afternoon Sad

If you don't want it Funnyface please tell them no and continue to tell them until they back off. My employer offers critical illness as part of my employment contract. Perhaps yours or your husbands has something similar?

Funnyface1 · 24/09/2017 20:33

I'm not usually easily intimidated but this guy's tone changes so drastically whenever we get onto this subject and I try to put him off. I suppose it's because I feel like he's got my future in his hands until this mortgage goes through smoothly. I'm just going to harden up and be straight with him, I've had enough.

Sorry your viewer didn't show up YogaDrone , how frustrating!!

HaveAWeeNap · 24/09/2017 23:28

FunnyFace, just go along with it if you’re worried about it affecting your mortgage app, then cancel it after one month’s payment?

YogaDrone · 25/09/2017 09:27

Our mortgage adviser did the sell on additional insurances too. I just said that I would consider additional insurance after I had been in the property for a few months and knew my outgoings. But that I wouldn't actually get to be in the house if my mortgage offer was being held up.

If he loses your business he won't get his commission so don't be afraid to say no.

As PickAChew says - insurance mis-selling is going to be the new PPI in 10 years!
