Can you find fault with it?
Needs new kitchen and new bathrooms probably but that's ok
Size of the garden!

Hi ferris - it's a Victorian semi. About 2.5k square feet so a fairly large one. We are hopefully moving to a Victorian detached (we like cellars!)

The key thing is the head height. Victorian houses tend to have higher cellars than Edwardian (a lot of Edwardian houses don't even have cellars). You can dig out but it can cost a lot in terms of disturbing the foundations etc

Victorian houses tend to have decent cellars and fairly pitchy roofs for loft conversions - although we lowered the ceiling height in the rooms below to make the loft conversion feel as airy as possible. Again, possible as Victorian houses have high ceilings so losing a door below was fine.

"All serious offers considered" 😳 Well that's not desperate or anything! 😂

WhisperingLoudly · 17/04/2017 18:43

I live in a big house. More space than I really need but I have 3DC and live away from family so it's nice to have space when people stay. We do have "dead space" though - rooms that just don't/rarely get used and are a bit surplus to requirements.

The downside is the upkeep. Repainting a room is a mammoth task. The heating bill is £500+ pcm (although the house is period so not well insulated) and cleaning is a FT job (thankfully not mine!)

I'd probably take somewhere a little smaller if choosing again

Miniwookie · 17/04/2017 19:12

I think it has a lot of potential, but still needs a lot of work doing (prob at least £100k to get it lovely) I would want to knock walls down/move walls. Floors need refinishing everywhere. New kitchen, bathrooms etc. I think the sellers are being greedy with the asking price. I would love it if I could afford it. The garden is amazing! I have 5DC though.

KickAssAngel · 17/04/2017 19:49

If it's half done up, that could be because they ran out of money, or because of a divorce. Either way can make the purchase a real headache, so probably worth finding out what's happened, if the estate agents will say anything (they shouldn't really, but sometimes share info).

cowgirlsareforever · 17/04/2017 19:54

The owners seemed to do at lot to the house and then stop suddenly.

ClaudiaNaughton · 17/04/2017 20:16

If you can afford extra bedrooms and want to have them why shouldn't you? Should we all have one coat because you can only wear one at a time? Or one pair of shoes?

We had a wonderful house when I was young with a box room next to my bedroom which only had luggage in it. I think of that room very fondly when lugging cases into our attic. No central heating though and ice inside bedroom windows in cold winter mornings Grin

bibbitybobbityyhat · 17/04/2017 20:24

You should also remember that there is a smaller market for 5+ bedroom houses. Most people want 2, 3 or 4 bedrooms.

cowgirlsareforever · 17/04/2017 20:27

Yes, houses in the area which are 5 bedrooms or more seem to take a while to sell.

Ferrisday · 18/04/2017 14:43

Thought this was smaller

It's a lot of house, but could be cosy on an every day level and amazing when you had lots of people coming round and staying over.
I like that one best of all the ones mentioned and no conservatory!

Tatlerer · 18/04/2017 19:35

PMSL about the comment on it being 'gauche' to live in a big house if you've got one child. We currently live in a 5 bed house and we're about to add two more. I love being able to have the whole family over for Christmas and large groups of friends from out of town with no worries about people having to find hotels etc.

Tatlerer · 18/04/2017 19:37

Ps Ferrisday good luck with your search!

PunjanaTea · 18/04/2017 21:44

Oh I really like that one! I think I prefer it to the other one.

PunjanaTea · 18/04/2017 21:45

By other one I mean the first one.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 19/04/2017 08:23

I really like that one ferris!

But - I do like the garden of the first one. However, indo thi kmit looks really dark and gloomy whilst the last one you posted is much more cosy.

Ferrisday · 06/08/2017 09:44

So I went to see the house
And I bloody love it

wowfudge · 06/08/2017 10:12

Ferrisday · 06/08/2017 10:29

I would be worries about the shadowy aliens that seem to live there. See pictures three and four. ......

Ferrisday · 06/08/2017 10:38
Grin I'd insist they took them with them !

KitKat1985 · 06/08/2017 15:13

Exciting Ferris. Out of sheer nosiness, why did it take you so long to view it?

Are you going to make an offer? Grin

Ferrisday · 07/08/2017 08:56

Kit Kat- I don't live in the area, but I'm here now school holidays. it would be a big move.
I have to figure out a realistic budget to finish the renovations and sort schools out.
Met the owner and I've seen all the plans. It could be amazing. I was there for nearly an hour!

Badweekjustgotworse · 07/08/2017 09:47

Just read the thread, ferris by an absolute mile the house you just viewed blows the other ones out of the water. Negotiate and get the price down.
That living room needs those three patio doors ripping out and a huge glazed wall put in, sliding doors or bifold doesn't matter but why they put in three separate patio doors is beyond me.

If you have the budget to do all the outstanding work and decorate it then in a heartbeat buy it, it'll be fucking brilliant!
