There is a man painting my kitchen right now and I hate it :(

I have the decorators in.

I picked out a nice pale green to go well with my oak units. But the green's not pale, it's fucking vivid. And now it's all over my walls and I want to cry.

It's ruined my lovely new very expensive kitchen. It looks cheap and nasty.

I can't return the paint because it's one of those companies that makes it up for you so it's not off the shelf.

I want to cry. I hate my life.

I've wasted loads of money because it need re-doing again, immediately Sad

This happened to me!
I picked out a lovely cream colour (almost magnolia looking)
When it went on the wall it was bright blooming yellow!

runninglikemad · 28/02/2017 12:13

That sure as heck isn't pale light green! Poor OP really hope the right colour is going on now......

Kr1stina · 28/02/2017 12:14

I'm sorry I don't want to stress you out more .

Get him to put a coat on a couple of square meters on two walls at the corner. Then send him for lunch and once it dries, loook very very carefully at it, with the lights on and off.

Or send him for lunch and do the above yourself. If you are not sure about the colour, get him to do the woodwork and ceiling only. I'm assuming yOu are paying per hour and not per day.

Kr1stina · 28/02/2017 12:17

Above all, do not worry.

Of all the house decorating disasters that can occur, painting a small room with the wrong colour of emulsion is very low down the list. Relatively cheaply and easily fixed.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 28/02/2017 12:18

I went from magnolia to duck egg blue in my kitchen and hated it for about a week; the colour was much stronger than I had imagined it. But I love it now.

RightyWho · 28/02/2017 12:19

It was the colour I ordered from the sample book, I just didn't realise how this would look on the walls. That's why I can't send it back.

I've asked him to give me a shout when he's put a bit of the new colour on the walls. Fingers crossed.

As my nan would say 'at least it looks clean'. Can you not live with it for a bit?

Maudlinmaud · 28/02/2017 12:20

Hope the new paint looks better op.

Kr1stina · 28/02/2017 12:21

You need it on two walls at the corner, as that's where the colour intensifies. And you want a meter square .

Do not worry -you are not the first person to have chosen the wrong colour off a paint card, the chips are tiny and give no idea how it looks in your room .

RightyWho · 28/02/2017 12:22

Kristina, thanks Smile

Even if this colour isn't totally right, I'm sure I can live with it more than the shit that was up before. Even if we end up repainting in a few months.

Good luck. Pale green is so tricky I tried about 20 testers for my sons room and hated them all. A friend suggested dulux apple white which I had dismissed as being a white but it is a perfect pastel green.

OhBlissOhJoy · 28/02/2017 12:25

This happened with our kitchen, was bile green coloured. Hideous.
I want to paint my new lounge sage green and I'm worried about having a repeat performance.

Itsnotwhatitseems · 28/02/2017 12:25

Is it this colour Op?

Itsnotwhatitseems · 28/02/2017 12:27

RightyWho · 28/02/2017 12:27

I think so Isit

He's just put some on a square meter and is leaving it to dry. Looks great so far.

The thing is, even if the colour matches, the brand of paint will present the colour differently and the finish will be different.

Excellent !

ElsieMc · 28/02/2017 14:46

Let us have a pic op. I was considering dulux overtly olive but now wondering if it is a bit dark and grey. You were right to change this.

RightyWho · 28/02/2017 14:48

When he's gone for the day, I'll send a picture.

It'll be a bit patchy because it's only the first coat

I was looking for a pale green in Johnstones paint for my DD's room and couldn't find any as they were all to limey!

RightyWho · 28/02/2017 15:02

The first attempt was S1030 7GOY or something like that.

ElsieMc I've got a wall of Overtly Olive - it's a lovely soft sagey olive colour

Currently trying to pick a colour for the living room. Am currently on tester 12 don't tell DH and still can't decide. Assistant on the Valspar desk in B&Q offered me a loyalty card today - I might have been in there a bit too often lately.Blush

So true that colours look so different not just from the card but on different walls in the same room. I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 28/02/2017 15:18

We are in the midst of paint woes over here too. Looking forward to more pics OP!
