I think this may be one of the most boring houses I've ever seen

here

The house itself is nice I think, a boring but big garden, good basic outline - but the décor..........attack of the 'shove flowery wallpaper up and that will be interesting' combined with THE BIG LETTERS everywhere, a very disappointing kitchen and even some twigs and shit randomly in a vase.

Weird that painting everything magnolia and removing the owners belongings would actually make this a more interesting house!

OP posts:

i like it. i thought houses were cheaper ooop north though

QOD · 25/02/2016 08:38

Looking forward to seeing my house on here when we go on the market
magnolia everywhere
most boring house in the world EVER

needastrongone · 25/02/2016 08:47

LEM I wish houses were cheaper, but not in my area. Live within the 'Golden Triangle' (Wetherby, Harrogate area), you've no chance Smile

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 25/02/2016 08:51

I think you need a reality check. After living in a 2nd story flat with 2 young children until we could afford a modest run down house with (our longed for) little garden, I felt your post was snobby and shallow.
My house doesn't have amazing furniture or decor but to me it's a palace. I would be happy living in half the house you featured here.

DorynownotFloundering · 25/02/2016 08:57

Not my idea of decor but not boring a potentially lovely family house. They obviously into feature walls but as pp said you can redecorate.
I'd shoot the agent for overuse of the colour enhancement on the outside shots, diabolical photography & lazy marketing. Do these people not get to vet their own pictures before going online?

I don't think the OP intended to criticise the size of the house. It's just that it looks as if the owner has gone into Homebase and bought the stuff off the first display they saw, then taken it home and put it in their house.

It's that particular style of very boring, 'fashionable' wallpaper, cushions, pictures and so on. There's little individuality.

I too think it is a huge and pleasant looking house and would be quite happy to live in it, especially if I didn't currently have a house I was happy in. There are some really awful places to live and I have lived in some of them. That's not the point.

Believeitornot · 25/02/2016 09:00

What's wrong with my house? Hmm

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 25/02/2016 09:00

Loving the photoshopped blue sky.

3point14159265359 · 25/02/2016 09:03

It's not a 'shopped sky. It's a northern sky. It's always summery or springlike oop here, even when there are autumnal leaves in the garden.

The decor isn't to my taste in most rooms and is cliched in an Argos/Next catalogue way, but when you remove all the furniture and soft furnishings from the equation, it's a nice house.

It doesn't need a new kitchen; white units are pretty classic and those are in good nick. As a previous poster said, paint and wallpaper stripper are all that are required.

Boring would be everything a beige colour with no texture, or contrasts imho.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 25/02/2016 09:32

I concede I've probably missed the point of this thread Hennifer it's all a matter of personal taste. It just wouldn't be a factor for me if I was buying the house.
The owners probably paid an interior designer a fortune to stage their house like that. There was a time when a bold feature wall covered in garish flowers was achingly trendy.

Hennifer · 25/02/2016 09:57

I understand what you are saying.

Outaboutnowt · 25/02/2016 10:07

I don't think it's that bad. At least there is a bit of personality in there, it doesn't look like a showroom.

The previous owners of our house were what I would describe as boring. Everything is beige. Curtains, walls, carpets, bathroom tiles, kitchen floor, light fittings. It's in no way unliveable but dear god it's so boring that I'm already itching to decorate.

I know you're supposed to decorate 'neutral' when you're trying to sell but a little bit of colour wouldn't hurt. Or even white would be more interesting. I also don't think they decorated to sell, I think they just loved beige Confused

It's just been decluttered to within an inch of its life. Like this one Heights

Please don't tell me normal people live this way all the time? My house is a tip.

firesidechat · 25/02/2016 13:16

Sorry couldn't be bothered to read the whole thread. I think your definition of boring is very different to mine. It's not my taste and a bit all over the place design wise, but it's not boring.

ivykaty44 · 25/02/2016 13:22

I would associate boring with bland.

This house is not bland, it is has a bold colourful décor which isn't my taste. I would though not describe the house as boring and can't understand why a person would use that label.

winkywinkola · 25/02/2016 13:24

Decor is horrible but I wouldn't call it boring at all. And it's cheap! Buy it and do it up the way you want it. Isn't that what most people do anyway?

Ed1tY0urPr0f1le · 25/02/2016 14:50

I want to march round there and move the bed in bedroom three so the headboard is against the wall instead of the window!

Otherwise, it's fine (not my taste in kitchen but fine!)

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 25/02/2016 16:36

The bed in bedroom 3 is fairly well camouflaged against the wallpaper. Now that I've spotted it, I also want to turn it around.

I hope people aren't looking at my house on rightmove and itching to move the furniture around/wondering WTF we were thinking in our decorative choices/spotting weird stuff I've lived with so long I've forgotten they're weird. They probably are though.

whataboutbob · 25/02/2016 16:53

It's like a not very talented interior decorator has gone mad in there!

220hawthorn · 25/02/2016 18:21

Not liking the kitchen but tbh after a while there is only so much you can do to make a house look unique inside before it looks off the wall and niche.

needastrongone · 25/02/2016 19:33

I really hope the family whose home this is doesn't read MN, I can't help feeling that it's a tad mean to criticise other peoples choices.

HeadDreamer · 25/02/2016 19:36

I'll buy it too. There's nothing wrong with the house. Looks very well maintained to me. You do know the letters, twigs and vases won't be there when the new owners move in?

poppet131 · 25/02/2016 19:40

This seems like a bit of a mean post?...

firesidechat · 25/02/2016 19:49

The actually house is lovely. I would buy it, but sadly I can't afford it. We went on holiday near York last year and it was lovely with loads of great places to eat.
