I think this may be one of the most boring houses I've ever seen

here

The house itself is nice I think, a boring but big garden, good basic outline - but the décor..........attack of the 'shove flowery wallpaper up and that will be interesting' combined with THE BIG LETTERS everywhere, a very disappointing kitchen and even some twigs and shit randomly in a vase.

Weird that painting everything magnolia and removing the owners belongings would actually make this a more interesting house!

The only thing that bothered me is that the T in bath must be upside down. That is surely the serif (it's the same width as the serifs on the other letters) rather than the top of the T.

It's not how I would have decorated, but I don't think it's the most boring house ever.

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 24/02/2016 21:52

In fact, I suspect that if I showed you my house on rightmove, you'd say it was The Most Boring House Ever.

We don't have any letters telling you what is in the room though.

AcrossthePond55 · 24/02/2016 22:07

Doesn't one plant a rowan tree out front to keep witches away? Hmmm, wonder if the owner has declared they have a 'witch problem' on disclosure forms.

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 24/02/2016 22:26

Admittedly, I do really hate all the wallpaper in that house (especially the paper round the fireplace). But, it's only wallpaper and I'm aware that other people actually like that kind of thing.

RaphaellaTheSpanishWaterDog · 24/02/2016 22:32

I'm not a fan of the wallpaper or decorating style in that house but I'd never buy a newer house anyway as it's period houses all the way for me - I certainly wouldn't describe it as one of the most boring I've seen though!

8dayweek · 24/02/2016 22:38

Step - Thank God, I thought it was just me looking at the BIG LETTERS and thinking "that says BAIH" Confused I wonder if they actually meant to have "BAIN"? (That's bath in French right?! Blush)

JassyRadlett · 24/02/2016 23:29

Step, 8day, me too. My reaction was 'what's a baih?'

OP, I get what you mean. It's a bit direct-from-the-catalogue for my taste.

Condorwoman · 25/02/2016 01:24

There's sod all wrong with it. Presumably they'll be taking their slagged off belongings with them and you can hire wallpaper strippers.

The photoshop job is bad I agree but otherwise it's a normal, well maintained, inoffensive large house in a nice area.

Very strange thing to start a thread about.

3point14159265359 · 25/02/2016 01:33

I don't think it's boring. Some of the rooms look like they didn't know what to do with that much space.

I can't believe a house in York costs that much though! (I can, I just don't want to...)

ScarletForYa · 25/02/2016 03:02

It's a nice house, they just have cheap taste.

TheChippendenSpook · 25/02/2016 06:26

I've seen weirder thread topicsand don't think it's a strange thing to start a thread about at all!

I quite like the house.

echt · 25/02/2016 06:41

It's not to my taste, but has clearly been presented for sale, so rather bland. To me it looks as if all the ideas have come from a magazine rather than some unifying idea of the owners'.

needastrongone · 25/02/2016 06:47

How it's decorated now should have nothing to do with whether you buy the house, I'd be looking at layout, natural light, room size etc, the house shows all that off perfectly fineSmile

Julius02 · 25/02/2016 07:05

This is someone's home - I don't see the need for people to make nasty comments about it. I don't really understand why anyone would want to do that. It's a perfectly nice house.

Where I live you would be lucky to get a 3 bedroomed flat or terraced house for that price so I'm pretty envious of all that space!

megletthesecond · 25/02/2016 07:20

It's just decorated by someone who has picked whatever they see in the shops. Too scared to waver from what is currently popular. It's pleasant but dated.

nagynolonger · 25/02/2016 07:21

The letters and the bedding will go with the present owners and the new owners will redecorate. Looks like a perfectly fine family home to me.

LocatingLocatingLocating · 25/02/2016 07:24

It's not terrible. And lots of space.
Im always a bit Confused about people having the same (or similar) patterned wall paper and soft furnishings like the posh woman in Gogglebox as I think it looks too busy.

Northernlurker · 25/02/2016 07:56

3point - you can get a nice house for a lot less. This particular house is in a very naice area. York is more expensive than a lot of the North but still massively cheaper than the South East.

OP posts:
LuciaInFurs · 25/02/2016 07:57

I think it's a beautiful home.

Whathaveilost · 25/02/2016 08:05

Is this some random house you've picked to bitch about?
If so,how bloody awful.
It's somebody's home for goodness sake!

Hennifer · 25/02/2016 08:05

It looks like a recent build. I agree that much of the decor is a huge cliche and I loathe the 'keep calm' bollocks and pointless matching print on the wall.

So yes, it's boring.

I do like the bathroom floor tiles. That's the best bit. And pink kitchen walls Smile

Hennifer · 25/02/2016 08:07

Also it is much cleaner and tidier than my house!

Ughnotagain · 25/02/2016 08:15

I don't like the decor but the house itself is lovely (room size, garden etc). You could do a lot with it. You could repaint that pink kitchen and take down the flowery wallpaper quite easily.

God I'd love to have the chance to live in a house like that!

There are plenty of bland houses round here though. Looooots of flowery wallpaper.

Stoodonlegoagain · 25/02/2016 08:25

I think I need to move to Yorkshire! My old 2 bed flat cost that Envy

JasperDamerel · 25/02/2016 08:26

Not to my taste, but I'm not wild about that style of house in general. My in-laws have a similar house (without the conservatory). Actually, I rather liked the conservatory.
