If I get round to posting individual rooms in my house (preparing for sale) would anyone be interested in coming on and bluntly telling me 'that bit looks shit, tidy it or fix it' Grin

It's not dark at all in daylight. It's very pale wallpaper but there is a low wattage bulb Grin

You're right, we don't use this room at all

Surely you don't need telling what is messy about this room? Grin

Everything - clear it all away. How much linen does a person need?

Well....erm....it looks very messy burnish know that :)
Wouldn't look as bad with proper storage of course.
Ikea do good deep plastic boxes - good for shoes and the xmas decs.
Is there a bed in there? Non divan? You can get under bed boxed too. I keep my kids summer/winter (whichever ones they aren't currently wearing)clothes in
Do take the shelf down....it's not exactly easily accessed it!?
No one needs 40 pairs of shoes. That's ridiculous.
Whole room needs a huge declutter

We can't move the second wardrobe out - it's too heavy (it's not coming with us to the new place, it was left behind by the last owner). It has ALL of dh's clothes in it. When we move we're going to get fitted wardrobes

We have 3 other double/super king bedrooms. Hence all the linen.

Yes, for selling, everything but the pieces of furniture must go, I'm afraid.

You asked for honesty so here goes: All those heaps of linens and such make me wonder if the room (and hence the house) would be musty, moldy, have spiders or centpedes, smell like old shoes, etc. - just seems like a breeding ground for mildew and such esp. since the room itself seems rather dark.

I am sure it is quite nice in person but that doesn't help if buyers are turned off.

How many beds do you have that you need so much linen? Can you gut it? I didn't get rid of my cot bedding until 4 years after the cot had gone Blush but now every bed has 2 sets, one on the bed and one smugly* in a drawer in the bedroom it belongs to.

*not a typo for snugly

Yes everything needs to be away tidy. Otherwise it seems like there's not enough storage in the house

How much bed linen do you have? Only keep 2 changes per bed maximum. And 80 shoes is loads!

Try and donate most rather than more storage. You seem to have a lot of Xmas decorations!

That wardrobe needs to go then if you can't move the other one.

Put the crap you're getting rid off straight in the car. Do not leave it lying around for someone to rummage in

Agree with everyone else. I would cross it off the list on the grounds that I would assume a massive lack of hygiene (unfairly but it's how I think) and probable little jobs that have been ignored.

The pile moved out (to have the air sucked out)

I would get a mass of boxes and neatly store away as much stuff in the garage as I could for viewings. Also, set out the room like it's perfectly sized for a child. The more 'stuff' that's in the room, the busier it looks and potential buyers will just think it's not big enough for them.

Much better but that canvas thing needs to go.

Ok, remember this is a spare room - very smallest room in a 4 bed/3 reception.

I was going to dress it. But I don't think I need to.

It was a study when we moved in. Built in dark desk system and a dark heavy wardrobe

Where are you going to put the pile once the air has been sucked out? Is there space in one of the wardrobes or in the drawers?

Report
LaurieFairyCake · 23/01/2016 18:36

The canvas thing with the towels? I was going to put the bed linen in that - it's in the tumble dryer at mo

You really do need to dress the room.

I'd get a single bed off of freecycle/gumtree and stick that in there. No one ever needs to sleep in it, it just needs to look like a bedroom. Or a study if you have a desk?

Hama - all the bags of decorations/spare linen is going to the garage - none will be in the house

I would dress it. Right now it looks like you don't have enough storage so have had to sacrifice an entire bedroom as a storage cupboard. That's off putting if you need the 4 bedrooms for people.

Report
Tinofsardines · 23/01/2016 18:44

I'd get rid of the canvas thing too Confused

And I think that although it's the smallest of 4 bedrooms it could do with dressing as a bedroom. It's hard to visualise how a small space can work without a bed.

If you could find a single somewhere, then I'd take out the second wardrobe that's on the picture, and just keep the bed and the wooden drawers.
