If I get round to posting individual rooms in my house (preparing for sale) would anyone be interested in coming on and bluntly telling me 'that bit looks shit, tidy it or fix it' Grin

Yes! That's perfect. The thing with any room is that it needs to have a purpose so bedroom or study, it doesn't matter. If it just looks like a dumping ground potential buyers will just think of it as a cupboard.

ouryve · 23/01/2016 19:45

People will want to imagine being able to get their car in the garage, btw.

wowfudge · 23/01/2016 19:46

Laurie - while I remember, when you get to the dining room, dress the dining table with some of your nice linen, but don't go overboard. Placemats and napkins are fine. If your table seats 6 then have six places set out. And keep those placemats and napkins somewhere so you can whip them out for viewings, but they don't get used by the family.

ouryve · 23/01/2016 19:49

And now the garage makes sense - just don't put anything in there you don't want to risk going mouldy.

Finola1step · 23/01/2016 19:53

Loving the teal day bed.

Next photo please.

LaurieFairyCake · 23/01/2016 19:56

At photo limit for today

But I've got fuck tons to do with the cleaning of the kitchen. I will need to get the day bed from the shed - but not til I move the furniture round. Hoping to get it on market for half term.

Bed in spare room definitely and Get rid of canvas thing. Put vase of flowers on drawers

Kitchen looks fine but remove as much as poss from work tops.

Basically de clutter. Our EA suggested lifting rugs. All curtains open. Throws on bedding. Flowers in rooms. I filled my downstairs WC with crap the day our photos were taken and I'm tidy!

wowfudge · 23/01/2016 19:57

Good to think ahead - hope it all goes well.

ewbank · 23/01/2016 19:58

I'm marking my place as I'm obsessively tidy and an obsessive clearer-outer.

My rule of thumb is, if it hasn't been used in the last month it can be stored. If it hasn't been out of storage in the last year it can go.

Borninthe60s · 23/01/2016 19:58

This gives you an idea and two of those bedrooms belonged to teenagers!

Always excellent advice on here! My house had been stuck on the market for over a year. I posted links on here and got some very honest advice. Hard to hear at times but I made the changes and had new photos taken. House sold within 10 days! Wish I'd done it sooner or before I even put it up like you are doing! Good luck with yeah clearing/cleaning!

Jaxinthebox · 23/01/2016 20:05

hi Laurie - not been on for ages, didnt we clean and declutter a house for a fellow mn er a few years ago?

Anyway - definitely declutter, de personalise and get rid of anything that isnt used often. Having just moved last February I feel the pain. We got rid of loads and still have boxes in the garage that are full of 'stuff'

Good luck, it is a very stressful time!

One thing that we did - and it made me feel better - was to leave the house, taking everyone out, including dogs and let the estate agent show the new people round. We never met anyone looking round. House sold in 3 days.

LaurieFairyCake · 23/01/2016 20:10

We did Jax Grin How lovely to see you!

We are moving in to London. Downsizing ish but with my giant craft room in the garden.

I very much hope the lass we visited is doing better

LaurieFairyCake · 23/01/2016 20:25

Did you move further away Jax?

I think in general the area I live in will mean it's bought pretty quick

ourvye - the garage is just a local rental. We don't have a garage. Actually we did, it's now bedroom 4 (and used as my office)

So everything that goes is going where it can't be seen in our rented garage.

It's now about half full. One kid is going off to uni and her room had 15 boxes of stuff she doesn't need and isn't taking to uni now packed in the garage. Wouldn't throw out any child hood toys.

Watching with interest in the hope it will catapult me off MN and into action.

fuckityhi · 23/01/2016 20:53

Bin all of it! Chuck it out and you'll feel so much better!

CremeEggThief · 23/01/2016 20:54

Definitely get rid of everything on the kitchen worktops. Only keep your kettle, toaster, microwave and perhaps bread bin/ wooden chopping board out.

That teal day bed will look fantastic in the spare room. Try to clear the top of the chest of drawers too and please hide/ get rid of the canvas holder.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 23/01/2016 21:01

What will the shed look like without the daybed?

LaurieFairyCake · 23/01/2016 21:02

I definitely wouldn't feel better chucking out the things I love and spark joy

Yes, I already Kondoed and regretting throwing out some spare curtains Grin

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 23/01/2016 21:04

There are currently two daybeds in the shed so taking one will be fine

OP posts:
CremeEggThief · 23/01/2016 21:12

How have you ended up with 2 daybeds in a shed? Maybe you could store some of the stuff you don't want on display in the house in the shed now; in perfectly stacked, lidded storage boxes. Not too many though!

LaurieFairyCake · 23/01/2016 21:14

Because it's a seating area in the summerhouse. They face each other with a table in the middle (this is the other one). They look nice, honest.

Can you paint the walls a lighter colour?

LaurieFairyCake · 23/01/2016 21:26

Which walls, the small bedroom?
