How much did you pay for your 3/4 bed house and what area isn't in?

Just a light hearted thread. Property interests me.

Buying a 3/4 bed house in Bristol. It's lovely. Clean. Very clean. Lovely garden and space for 2 cars on the drive. We got it for a steal of 150,000 although needs some updating.

Just wondering what everyone else paid in different parts of the country! What area and what condition?

North east, 4 bed semi 4 years ago for £170k, now worth about £210k

Also rent out a 2 bed Terrace that I paid £92k for at the height of the market and is now worth about £80k :(

JustBeingJuliet · 11/08/2015 07:25

3 bed ex-LA semi in need of some upgrading for £125k. I'm on Derby/Notts border.

tvlover1234 · 11/08/2015 07:29

Spring its in bs13. House on same road which ours is in better condition has just gone on for 165k think they're hoping for 160k.

Another house on that road just sold for 172500 but was very modern inside. However didn't have loft conversion or conservatory like ours.

Wye Valley now, Home Counties then. Property price was 40K less for our forever home, but you get great value for money. Larger room sizes, bathrooms and garden, village location and towns nearby so not right out in the sticks (just a little bit sticky not too much Smile the people are lovely, give you the time of day and amazingly helpful when I dropped my car keys down the drain at the local swimming pool

Also changed to better mortgage deal saving us 300 /month.

3 bed semi- 155k 2 yrs ago- was a complete wreck we've had to do everything basically except boiler and windows which were fine. Nearly completed our renovation worth over. 200k now.
Little village, outstanding local primary school, country parks its nice but will be looking to move in next 3-4 years.

GoooRooo · 11/08/2015 07:33

£156k 4 years ago for three bedroom 1930s semi on the north Essex coast. Probably worth about £180k now.

Much better value than the £250k we paid for a two bedroom flat in a not very nice part of London 9 years ago

mrsmilesmatheson · 11/08/2015 07:37

240K for a 3 bed semi 7 years ago in commuter belt kent. Now we've refurb end and extended its worth approx 330K.

Large and very spacious 3 bed 1960's Swedish design mid terraced with decent sized garden and drive for 2 cars in semi rural Staffordshire. Purchased for £20,000 in 1995 and now worth the massive sum of £100,000. Hmm

I could only purchase a house in this immediate area due to the dire value of my property. I know it looks like a fantastic return on my investment but my sister purchased a very similar house to mine for £25,000 in 1996 2 miles away in the same town and she has just sold it for £230,000. Lucky for her the area she purchased in has had huge amounts of investment and my area hasn't. The school next to her property has improved year on year whereas my catchment school has got steadily worse. It just shows you how investment and good education really does improve the values and desirability of an area having a huge impact on house prices.

4/5 bed semi in the north west, bought 5 years ago for a bargain £185k as seller was desperate, we have spent £15k on kitchen, boiler and essential repairs and it is now worth about £250k. I see this as our forever home.

laracroft2001 · 11/08/2015 08:03

4 bed (well 3 and converted garage)in essex but good commute to london,270£

Reasonable enough condition but needed proper clean and wholly decorated. Garden was a state so have literally just ripped it all out

Notstayingup · 11/08/2015 08:12

Bought our 3 bed terraced 30s house in zone 4 W. London 5 years ago for £291k - but it was completely derilict (think new ceilings onwards...) and we couldn't live in it. £100k later with now 4 beds and extended worth around £670k

LadyOrangutan · 11/08/2015 08:20

1930s 3 bed semi-D with garage and 75ft south facing garden at the edge of SW london/Surrey borders for 500k in Aug 2014.
Needed complete renovation.

House across the road has just gone on the market for 650k Smile

MrsStarwars · 11/08/2015 08:32

4 bed detached, garage, nice garden £189000, East Midlands.

Linguaphile · 11/08/2015 12:01

Oh gosh, this thread is depressing me! A 4 bed terrace here in SW London easily goes for over £1 million. Our budget is £375. :(

Marmitelover55 · 11/08/2015 12:09

We bought our Victoria 3 bed semi in Bristol for £156k,16 years ago. We have had a loft conversion so its now 4 bed and a single story kitchen extension and had it valued last year at £620k Shock

Jedi1 · 11/08/2015 12:13

3 bed terrace although really 2.5 as the attic conversion is in the eaves. 305k in 2008.

Would hazard a guess at 550- 600 now based on others on the market in the surrounding area.

SE london.

Completely pointless though as still can't afford to move anywhere as anything bigger is really really stupid money.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 11/08/2015 12:17

3-bed plus attic medium-sized Victorian mid-terrace in nice market town in Lancashire. Small front garden, fairly small back yard. £24,000

That was in 1983 though Grin

We've done a lot to it & spent quite a bit on it but still probably only worth about £180K

PosterEh · 11/08/2015 12:23

Just under £200k for a 4 bed in a Cotswold Village with good primary... but it has a tiny courtyard garden, fourth bedroom is tiny, it only has one reception room and smallish kitchen and is a new build townhouse in an area of period cottages. We've moved abroad now and it makes an excellent rental property because there is very little else of its size available to let at the price we let it at.

PosterEh · 11/08/2015 12:24

Should add we bought in 2011.

kirinm · 11/08/2015 12:24

Wow which part of Bristol did you find that size house in? Prices were that high when I first looked to buy there in 2007!

ThereIsIron · 11/08/2015 12:26

3 bed semi bungalow outside Belfast with decent garden (about 80ft) for 65k 15 years ago. Loft conversion 2 years ago took it to 5 bed. Now worth about 120k.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 11/08/2015 12:34

Just remembering that we had friends who bought a similar sized house to ours (3-4 bed mid terrace) in Teddington at around the same time for about £60K.

Quite a few people from SW London moved up here then & their £60k bought them a big 4-bed 'executive' detached.

Those big 4-bed detacheds currently go for around £500k but the Teddington terraces are pushing £1m Confused

Treats · 11/08/2015 12:38

4 beds £440k four years ago in Kingston, SW London. Now apparently worth north of £550k.

We've had to do a bit of work - scruffy interior, poor layout and needed a whole new roof, but that hasn't bothered us unduly. We know that we'll stay a good few years so it's a good investment.

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 11/08/2015 12:41

3 bed mid terrace bought for £250k in 2009, Home Counties.

Worth about £375k now, allegedly. We are also fairly close to Crossrail and it's whacking prices up by a ridiculous amount.
