We need to find somewhere to rent within an hour or hour and half of Cambridge. Dh job will be there. Can't afford Cambridge itself.

Need 4 bedrooms (one as an office for Dh who will work from home 2-3days a week). All the usual, good schools, need reasonable transport links (A1?)

Renting to start with, budget of £650-£750 a month. Help me find somewhere, I'm driving myself mad on rightmove!

If you decide to be further from Cambs, there is this:
www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/property-33446169.html
in rural Suffolk, £595pcm. I think it would be within your hour and a half's drive - Ipswich certainly is, that's just over an hour.

PS Also worth, when looking to rent, offering the LL £25 off the rent. If you have good references, and can start paying now rather than in a month, they will often say yes: every week a house stands empty, they are losing money.

stowmarket & some of the villages are much cheaper & still commutable on the A14

Chatteris and March are the cheapest places within an hour commute of Cambridge (by train or car). They are not as bad as people say they are. Chatteris schools are good. However would advise against wisbech, pretty town, but lots of social deprivation.

Ps. if DH is working in north of cambridge (Histon vision park/ cambridge science park) you definately want to be located in a village or town to the north of cambridge rather than south as traffic can be a nightmare.

You may be eligible for a shared ownership property - worth checking out with local housing associations such as Hundred Houses, cambridge housing society - what they have on their books for sale. That would fit in your price brackett for somewhere like soham to the north of cambridge

Hundred Houses shared ownership for sale:

www.hhs.org.uk/main.cfm?type=BUYINGAHOME

March - £81k (plus £121 rent and service charge pcm)

Linton - £130k (plus £318 pcm rent/service charge)

Just read some more of OP posts. Looks like husband is working at Histon (Impington) Vision Park. Guided bus stop is a five minute walk. This is a dream service that runs very quickly and is cheap (

That's interesting thanks. I had wondered about shared ownership, but it confused me! I have had a read and will ask for more details and whether we are eligible.

It's not vision park, it's run out of his boss' house, it's a very small business.

Lots to think about
