Enjoy MTM. I've just had two days with DD1 visiting sixth forms in our new area - not exactly taking my mind of it but getting away anyway.

I need to start packing, buyers want me out in 4 weeks, aargh! Anyone know best place to get boxes? None of my local supermarkets have any. Thanks

Report
Isityouorme · 18/04/2013 05:36

We had to buy boxes from a storage place as supermarkets didn't have any. Homebase had a few good ones.

Fedupofturkey you can buy home moving packs on eBay which include tissue, tape and bubble wrap.

We had a viewing yesterday. Mrs viewer loved it but mr preferred the one they had seen earlier. They haven't sold either so not in a good position. On the plus side they couldn't believe how much you can get here for the money but they were from Surrey. [Smile]

We had so much of that Sailorsgal - he loved it, she didn't and vice versa. It least they weren't in a good position.

My cleaning for my buyers coming round on Saturday has turned into a full on manic spring clean. How can my house be so minging? I just feel completely overwhelmed with it all. I have requested a quote for when we move for a full clean - I just can't face it this time.

Ok, so I've just driven home and another house on our road has acquired a for sale sign - direct competition as all houses on our road are similar. My bug is that this house is on with same EA as us. I had a 'progress chat' with the EA yesterday and they failed to mention this. I am mightily peed off - am I justified? I feel like ringing them and having a go, but not sure really if they're supposed to tell me stuff like this. Any advice from those of you that are longer in the tooth with all this? Wink

CuddyMum · 18/04/2013 12:45

Yes, I think your agent should have mentioned it MTM - they would have had the instruction by then. In my experience they all have loose lips! We had two competition houses in our road (with other agents) all of whom were very free with their information (including people's private circumstances!).

Is the house the same price and condition? Do you (or them) have the edge in anyway at all. I, personally, would give your agent a call to see if they think the competition house is a good or bad thing.

Back from quite a nice day of house hunting. We've seen a fab garden, amazing front door and original features, gorgeous staircase and hall, brilliant location, beautiful living room and a perfect layout - unfortunately they were all in different houses Hmm
So not sure any of them were quite right and most needed some serious cleaning and repair work that they weren't really priced for.
We're going to sit with wine, property details and rightmove and work out our next move tonight.

Isn't that always the way? It really pees me off when people don't clean for a viewing too. I hated doing it but would never allow a viewing unless the house was pristine.

It sounds corny but when you find the right house you will just "feel it". The house we're buying is so very different to what we were looking for. We wanted a large garden, detached, double glazed, laminate floor, glossy kitchen, probably 70s era any maybe a doer upper with scope for a big extension, large drive etc. and have ended up with a (beautiful) Victorian semi, with a rustic kitchen, original features, sash windows and a small (but completely private) garden and a tiny drive and above budget too! When we viewed it for the second time, I just didn't want to leave!

So I've sold and offered which has been accepted. Now what? I've instructed solicitor, have an idea when we want to move, in the process of looking for best mortgage. Got removal firm quote. What else do I need to do or do I have to wait for a date?

Report
CuddyMum · 18/04/2013 19:13

Fedup - get started with that mortgage application asap and ensure that you turn an solicitor paperwork around asap. If you're anything like me hassle people!

Ruby - location has to be the priority. I would say look a little above your price range too and yes, I suppose, view everything! It's always worth checking out the property history on Zoopla so you can see if it's been marketed before, who with and when.

Oh god. House is up on rightmove.

God knows how I will keep it tidy for viewers. My youngest is horrendous. Have told the EA that I will require notice of people coming to view. Also specified people must be in a position to buy.

Now, I've seen a house I want so want mine to sell NOW!

monkeytennismum · 19/04/2013 06:23

Thanks Cuddy, I tried calling the EA yesterday but she was out. Will try her again today.

Good luck to everyone with weekend viewings!

Well, we have paid our deposit, the buyer's bank came to do a home valuation on Tuesday, the property inspection on our place was yesterday, we're getting the one done on the new place on Monday.

I'm hoping the buyers are going to lift the conditions on ours today, which means it's all sold bar the actual money business. Grin

On a slightly more interesting note, dh's psycho boss announced he was going to close the company next month, and that all the execs will have to take a pay cut, and cut off a load of contractors. Then the next day he was all happy cheery, invited us to a silent auction/ dinner party, and asked the contractors to come back. There is absolutely no knowing what on earth is going to happen. He is changing his mind like the wind, so we are just hoping that he doesn't do anything drastic. Whatever will be, will be, and all that.

Stressed-out house seller is right.

So what happens next:

Selling- price agreed, estate agent informed of solicitor details ....

Buying- price agreed, estate agent given solicitor details, mortgage info. Mortgage application started ....

Hi all
Can I join you? Been lurking for a while

We long ago outgrew our lovely 2 be flat in a nice bit of London (4 children now inc twins and fairly reent new arrival) and want a 4 bedroom house in heels.

We actually saw one we liked (though on at £450k and £420k is prob our limit) so now it's made dash, declutter etc.
We have mortgage AIP but can't really think about an offer when our own p,ace isn't eve on the market. We need an offering ours, I presume, before we can think about making our own offer?

Report
TerrysNo2 · 20/04/2013 00:00

drowned usually yes, you need to be in a position to buy but, having just lost out on a house we loved by 1 week (that was the time difference between the other people's offer and ours getting sold) I would say just make an offer and see what they say. In hindsight I wish we had done this!

Report
DrownedGirl · 20/04/2013 00:12

In herts, not in heels!
What is a reasonable offer is asking price is £450k? (Think it's overpriced, next door sold for £399k in jan)

wirecat we signed up with agent at 2pm, was on rightmove at midnight. Agent phoned to book first viewing at 9.10am. However we are in a funny area with very high demand and little on the Market.

Can I join you all please?

First time seller here! Been on the market for 2 weeks. Had an offer which we rejected, buyer is thinking over their finances over the weekend and will hopefully have a revised offer early next week.

I am in a wreck! I haven't slept properly for days, my hands are ruined from all the cleaning and I feel constantly stressed! I am no good at this!!
