Complete house make-over - help in deciding on colour and lighting schemes needed

House is being completely overhauled. We need to pin down some details in the coming weeks.

  1. Colours - it is not a huge house so we want the same colour scheme through out the house. I like lake colours and colour scheme 2 - which one do you like best? I think the first one is warmer perhaps?


We have settled on the tiles for hall, kitchen and bathrooms grey tiles bottom right but in 60x60, and wall tiles above for around bath/shower and behind sink. Rest of bathroom white.

Kitchen is white with granite worktops, contemporary style.

Living room white walls with solid oak flooring, still have this sofa but it will be replaced in a year or two.

Help me work out what colour and where to put it. Do I choose one wall in living room / dining room and make that the blue/green wall? And do I repeat that throughout the house?

Oh, and if anyone knows about lighting schemes, we could chat about that too

That Celestial Cloud 2 is nice. My decorator didn't rate the Light and Space paints particularly. He reckoned there wasn't much difference between them and normal paints.

That is interesting, Buda. I haven't spoken to painter yet, so don't know what paints he wants to use.

Thanks :) They hold backpacks and sports bags and shoes too. Vair useful.

It was two of these that we made into one and cut down so they were less imposing in our hallway.

I also added fake drawer fronts which are really hard to see in the picture but show up well IRL. I joined the two tops together and filled them and used velcro to attach it (we need to be able remove it because the light cord goes behind it). I added a bunch of trim and new knobs (which I could only find in shiny brass so they got painted too.) I used left over wood from the conversion for the bag/dog leash hook.

Ooooh love threads like this. My house is currently up for sale and is very like your lake colours. Check out my blog www.colporter.tumblr.com where I have posted loads of pics of the house over the last few years as well as other bits that inspire me. Have you seen the house in Something''s gotta give? Amazing and not scary like What lies beneath.

I also have an amazing book called Home which has colour schemes and storage ideas. Think it is American.

I found the Dulux lighT and space paints had a really patchy finish, I tried in on hall and stairs and also one bedroom, each time it had to be painted again.

Ps I love Little Greene paints the best. A bit more forgiving than f and b.

What is the grey colour on your walls? Have you used the same colour throughout?

Ok, kitchen is similar to this but with handles and is matt white not gloss. Tiles for the floor same shade, but again matt not shiny.

How do I prevent it looking too sterile?

how about doing a saturated version of one of the colours you like, for instance teal?

Yes, I think it needs a strong colour. I think with all the white surfaces, it should look ok with a dark wall. Really want to go with a v light grey for the other walls.

Bathroom French grey from LIttle Greene
Lounge Early Dawn Light Sanderson
Other bedroom is Crown Snowfall

spotty, where is the wallpaper in the bedroom from - gorgeous! We have used cornforth white on cupboards in our dining room plus shaded white on the walls - looks really great.

Am now considering not installing a bath, to the horror of MN. Might ask on twitter, where not all of those asked will be parents of young kids.

A few posts behind sorry... Wallpaper is Neisha Crosland. I love the greys greens and bluey hues. Grey is good because it goes with all the brights as well as muted colours. A pop of orange, pink or teal.

I have bought some F&B colours, and am feeling VERY MNetty.

Love the Cornforth White, am torn between Dix Blue and Green Blue.

I am tired of beige-y colours as we have a beige couch, and have had beige in previous houses. That is a nice colour though

I know what you mean about beige, I have added so much more colour in the kitchen this time. I have a beige and white bathroom in this haouse and have put in bright spearmint accessories!!

oh, spearmint must be nice and fresh.

Am thinking I might go for Dix Blue in the living room and [[http://www.farrow-ball.com/green-blue/colours/fcp-product/100084 Green blue in the kitchen.

The Cornforth White looks quite dark in the living room, but lighter in the hall which is actually a darker room. Might be because I have tested on the old anagypta paper?

We had a lot of problems finding the gold colour for our walls (which is actually a peachy colour but looks gold in our house). I saw a colour scheme in a magazine I loved and bought sample pots of it from BM. Painted them on the walls. The gold looked like primrose in parts of the house (exactly what I was trying to avoid) and the beautiful sagey green looked like prison grey. Yuck.

It took about ten to fifteen attempts for all the different colours but by then I'd wised up and instead of painting samples on the wall I painted a foam core board and moved it around the house. You might try that, it is a lot easier!

I use lining paper then I can roll it up and keep it for other rooms
