Complete house make-over - help in deciding on colour and lighting schemes needed

House is being completely overhauled. We need to pin down some details in the coming weeks.

1. Colours - it is not a huge house so we want the same colour scheme through out the house. I like lake colours and colour scheme 2 - which one do you like best? I think the first one is warmer perhaps?
   

We have settled on the tiles for hall, kitchen and bathrooms grey tiles bottom right but in 60x60, and wall tiles above for around bath/shower and behind sink. Rest of bathroom white.

Kitchen is white with granite worktops, contemporary style.

Living room white walls with solid oak flooring, still have this sofa but it will be replaced in a year or two.

Help me work out what colour and where to put it. Do I choose one wall in living room / dining room and make that the blue/green wall? And do I repeat that throughout the house?

Oh, and if anyone knows about lighting schemes, we could chat about that too

I like the Benjamin colours , the browny grey one looks warmer to me .

Is the F&B browney grey colour you mentioned "Charleston Grey" . I am just about to have that in new house and think it is a fabulous colour .

We used highland falls in the last house but one and gooseberry fool in the last house (somehow the light made HF wrong for the second house but GF looked right).

It is difficult, isn't it? We did that in one house - the colour we chose just looked wrong on the wall.

Tried the Dulux app but it's not getting the right colours. Will take a sample of the wallpaper to match the tailor made colour I think.

Anyway - sorry - didnt mean to derail your thread! Your thread has made me start to think seriously about what I don't like at the moment about our house so thanks!

Have been to B&Q for some pots, and found saxe blue, which I thought might be similar to the Benjamin Moore colour, but is I think too dark. While browsing their website I came across [[http://www.craigandrose.com/morris-blue Morris Blue which looks promising.

I also found Study Room Blue which is gorgeous but again not sure if too dark.

The company has a lot more than B&Q had in store, so will see if there is a showroom somewhere with a bigger selection.

Can you get to a posh paint shop?

I am totally converted as the local one here (who does F&B and Little Greene) spent an hour with me choosing a colour for my kitchen which would go with the existing terracotta tiles (not an easy feat) and it looks fabulous.

She is now advising me about the bathroom colours.

Even though the paint is pricier, you wouldn't have to shell out for tons of sample pots and it's free(ish) interior design.

I am going to see where there is one. It is not exactly an area for posh paint shops round here. The folk who are coordinating the house renovation are doing the interior design thing but they don't have a painter in house.

I googled that company and found a painters and decorator website where they were all complaining about it being hellish to work with. Love the colour though.

The Morrisblue is pretty much the Benjamin Morris one - I keep coming back to it.

That's nice, little Greene have a couple of colours like that on their chart, you can order one online (but that doesn't get you the advice, does it?!)

Funnily enough, I was looking at Little Green to find a stockist nearby and there isn't one. There is one in Munich, where I will be for 2 weeks shortly, so might pop in there and ask for advice.

In a kitchen, your wall is going to be somewhat broken up by cabinets and fridge, perhaps a backsplash, so the effect of an entire room covered in the same colour isn't as marked.

Having said that, I used a non-descript gold-khaki colour for the window and back door walls of my former kitchen, with white tiles as backsplash behind stovetop and sink and between cabinets and countertop (unbroken swathe of subway tiles), white painted woodwork around windows and door, and had white cabinets and appliances, with burgundy paint for the little patches of exposed walls around the counter/fridge/area above the backsplash. The darker colour managed to transform the shape of the room somehow - made it seem bigger and square.

My current kitchen is a peachy yellow but it needs the brightness as it faces north and has a porch limiting the western light at the door end.

We don't have much in the way of cabinets on the wall of the kitchen. plan here

The bottom right hand corner will have units with tambour doors to hide the fuse box, and provide space for the kettle and toaster. I though about painting the back wall a strong colour.

I have ordered a whole batch of Dulux testers, as they are on special offer at 3 for £1.

Anyone used the Light and Space paints from Dulux? The kitchen is quite gloomy, despite big window. I have ordered a grey paint to try.

Celestial Cloud 2 quite close to the colour I am thinking of.

I have a bluey grey kitchen, painted one and a half walls with their blue reflection colour from the ready mixed chart. It's a room that gets no direct sun and it's not gloomy at all. I have got light worktops and pale grey gloss kitchen from howdens though, so there's a lot of reflection of light.

That is interesting. The kitchen units are white, with a granite work top (or laminate if we run out of money!), very light grey floor tiles.

Our (open plan) house is decorated sort of like the lake house scheme only more saturated. We have a slightly off-white for the ceiling.

ooh, that morris blue looks exactly like the colour of our kitchen. We mixed and matched from sample pots because we couldn't get the colour we wanted and then had it custom mixed.
