Is Travertine marble the new avocado suite?

I have picked out travertine marble tiles for the floor and bath panel of our family bathroom. Tiler came to do a cost estimate for the job y'day and said "everyone is getting those, they will date your house dreadfully in a few years' time".
I am thinking, shit - is travertine the next avocado suite?

Thoughts? And any alternative suggestions...we have a blank slate.

I saw a house for sale last week and the owners explained that they had not replaced the avacado bathroom suite as it had been very expensive when they put it in 30 years ago. FFS I'd have prefered a white suite and Travertine...espically as they were asking £600k for a tiny three bed semi.

Personally I'm seeing far to many white metro tiles with grey grout (and stripey stair carpets while we're at it) while house veiwing at the moment. I think Metro tiles will date more than marble. They are in every house around here now.

Oh dear. At least we are planning white grout rather than grey, with Matt white metro tiles

Does anyone have any suggestions for plain white tiles- we only want to do behind the bath/shower and then paint the rest a sort of grey colour??

white metro tiles and white grout will look crappola.

Metro tiles are more ubiquitous than travertine.

They look pretty nice on the fired earth website? "architecture white" maybe they are not true metro ones, can't link on phone. They are matt white flat brick style.

I'm confused now with what's in, out and on it's wayConfused

Maybe the best plan would be to stick with avocado and wait for it to come back in a retro/ironic nod to the past

Accessorise with a damp towel slung artfully in the corner, some forgotton pants and a water pistol courtesy of dc and voila..my bathroom. It's so modern Charles Saatchi wants to buy it as an installationGrin

I hate dark, gloomy bathrooms though. They look grubby.

Can I just ask re marble tiles. Are they matt or glazed? I've always understood marble to be porous and prone to stains. We will be tackling bathrooms in our new house soon and I'm confused already.

I really like them, we moved into our house and the previous owner had put them up and it looks like a hotel....lovely! I kind of assumed everyone would like them as they're pretty neutral and very very easy to keep clean. I was even thinking the other day when we move again I'd like something similar.

I think everything goes in and out of fashion, so unless you are doing up your bathroom to sell the house in the next few years and worried about it, then get what you like it's your home and your taste :)

Its all personal taste indeed. I love white metro tiles with white grout and agree they look lovely on the Fired Earth website.

I think white metro tiles and white grout will look nice for about 10 minutes, while it's all brand new.

These tiles are nice but they aren't pure white so it's possible to use them with white grout.

I had those in my last house. I am a clean freak though and am fastidious if I love something in keeping it perfect if I don't I am a bit slovenly.

Fired Earth is the land of Tile Porn for me...

these mosaic tiles look great in my fantasy bathroom, with a hint at modern turkish bathery - octagonal lights, etc etc...

Get a coloured suite. They are v fashionable in bathroom design apparently (my Dad is a retired bathroom salesman)

You will be streets ahead of the trend Wink. My personal choice would be a coloured suite in a dark plum - my parents have their original 70s one updated with modern tiles and oriental decor, it looks gorgeous.

We looked at a house recently with a chocolate brown bathroom suite. It was so hideous it had a sort of greatness to it.

And maybe one or two advantages..a brown toilet after all...

I saw a chocolate brown suite in situ the other day, the only thing that had been replaced with a white version was the loo!

Not practically minded clearly.
