Please come and tell me how rubbish induction hobs are

DP wants to install one but I just don't get them.

OK yes they are safer than a gas range and yes I guess more sleek. But I actually do like the look of a range cooker (and most certainly prefer the cooking on a gas cooker)

I guess cost is a factor but some of the cost of replacing cookware and installing extra cupboards necessary for a job may offset some of that

Please come and tell me how rubbish inductions are so I can convince DP

They are not rubbish, they're brilliant. I love mine - sorry, got rid of a range cooker to install ours! Much easier to clean and totally as controllable.

Fiddledee · 08/03/2011 20:22

Get both thats my plan - a range cooker + a two ring induction hob on the island

LemonDifficult · 08/03/2011 20:23

Can you not get a range with an induction hob? Or do you want gas as well?

JetSetWilly · 08/03/2011 20:24

Ohhhhh noooo that's not the right answer how can I delete it from thread

Sorry that was to 2madboys

Well it's not about the cooking method more the look/space etc. I did see a range with induction and I think really it was out of our price range but also, I don't know, I just don't 'get' induction!

When I say I don't get it I guess I mean I'm worried it will be rubbish to cook on-stick with what you know and all that-gas hob electric oven surely?

This sort of thing There's quite a variety to choose from and more coming onto the market all the time.

2madboys · 08/03/2011 20:35

Honestly, it feels just the same to cook on. Just much easier to clean and doesn't feel like you need to get the hoover to it to get all the crumbs out of the grooves! Have just made lots of lovely pancakes on ours. Grin

noddyholder · 08/03/2011 20:38

Nothing is as good as gas

GetOrfMoiLand · 08/03/2011 20:41

I used to swear that I would never use anything other than gas hobs.

But I was conned convinced into one by DP and I now LOVE it.

It is so simple to use. You can go down to a really low setting, and can leave a pan on for hours safely. Also when you turn it off they cool down a lot quicker than electric, so you can leave the pan there. They are also brilliant to clean. And they work with my Le Creuset (they won't work with stainless steel however, so check your pans. OR use it as an excuse to buy a load of Le Creuset Wink.

Sorry, that's not what you wanted was it? Grin

Would never go back to godforsaken gas jet crap things now, and all that cleaning.

PorkChopSter · 08/03/2011 20:44

Just made fantastic pancakes on ours and then wiped it clean.

They are great!

oh dear I'm being slowly convinced thanks mostly to GOML

Blimey boots do kitchen appliances?!! But thanks for that lemon I haven't seen anything like that will show DP could be a compromise?

And thank you Lenin you've given me one big minus point with the board failure if I do still need to convince him orherwise!

Why is it I think they're faddy/naff??? I don't know but really they are going to be lots more convenient in terms of cleaning especially

ZuzuBailey · 08/03/2011 21:02

Can't put you off I'm afraid. I love my induction hob. It's so easy to clean and heats up and cools down quickly just like gas.

Lenin, how do you know they use a lot of electricity? Genuine question as I haven't noticed my bills being higher since I got mine. And my hob switches off if it's not used within a certain time (30 seconds I think). It has a child lock too.

JetSetWilly · 08/03/2011 21:03

Oh and I did check the Le crueset point I was hoping they wouldnt work and that would have definitely had DP convinced but to no avail!

OP posts:
JetSetWilly · 08/03/2011 21:05

Oh yes the usage point did catch my eye would be interested in that also

Also meant to ask does the glass ever scratch?

Can't believe I'm not being convinced to stick with gas I was certain I would win this argument!

Is it absolutely ok to turn them off at the wall Lenin? we are having one because they are more efficient when cooking. I did vaguely wonder about how much they use in stand by.

JetSetWilly · 08/03/2011 21:45

Ok so we can be certain that induction is lots more efficient than gas yes?
