Anyone used The London Door Co. ?

Hi, I'm on the lookout for a new front door, and I was wondering if anyone has used The London Door Company? If so what was your experience of them? I've had a few quotes from different places but would like to hear from an existing customer before spending the cash.

Another contender for my custom is TimberWindows who also do doors. Both companies have such a very similar offering, and the price quoted is very similar too. It's a lot of money I'll be spending, and I know very little about either company. I suppose new doors are bought so seldomly, I don't know anyone in RL who's done it recently.

Thanks!

SW London... We had quotes from LDC, Vosey and Jones, Ayrton and Cotswood Doors.

Ayrton and LDC were 50% more than the other two. We went with Cotswood Doors because we liked them the best.

Did ask a local joiner for a quote but he didn't fill me with confidence at all and we couldn't find anyone else willing to do it.

I also looked at big old doors but we needed a new frame and fan light as well as the door...

WalkingThePlank · 02/10/2014 16:14

We used Cotswood Doors. It took 5 months in total to get the door fitted correctly. The service is abysmal, particularly from the male staff.

We are very pleased with the final product, after lots of chasing on our part, but the service means we wouldn't use them again. They only finally corrected the door that they fitted when it dawned on them that they weren't going to be paid until they had fulfilled their side of the contract.

HI
I also want to use Cotswold Door Company - could you tell me if your problem door was Hardwood or Accoya Front Door.
I am hesitating in using them after reading your review.
thanks.

WalkingThePlank · 04/10/2014 16:59

It was Accoya.

The problem was not with the wood itself but with the finish. It had to be totally repainted in the end but took several months for this to happen after the delayed installation. I had to take several days of work, sometimes for the appointment to be cancelled.

I wish we'd used a local carpenter.

Hello

I realised I never did come back and comment after our new door was fitted by Greenwich Joinery as promised. Really happy with the door, the installation/fitting went well and it looks great. The finish looks fantastic and we couldn't be happier really good service by Greenwich Joinery. We've had lots of compliments would highly recommend. Any questions feel free to pm me.

GabrielleB83 · 21/01/2015 19:40

My husband and I also used Cotswood Doors, and actually we thought they were great, JUVE.

We've had two high-quality doors from them - one for our back door, and one for my husband's workshop in the garden, which is a bit of a unique building so he wanted a very specific wide door to get machinery in and out. I must say I was really happy with both the doors and with the fitting service - they look super, and everyone who comes to our house comments on them.

jillybean2008 · 21/01/2015 20:44

I have just completed a fairly extensive refurb on my house in NW London. Last thing to be done was the front door and I went with Cotswood Doors and I LOVE my front door and I am extremely pleased with the finished product.

I had quotes from London Door Co, dropped price 10% within a day and then wanted to go further to try undercut the tow other quotes. It was clear they had whacked a huge mark-up and was put off by them because of this and also because they kept calling every day.

Cotswood offer a really personalised service and I found them very responsive to my many questions!! The two installation guys were great and worked almost a 12 hour day so as to ensure everything was completed to our satisfaction and in fact more so their own. I would recommend.

Ccally15 · 23/01/2015 14:12

We've just had Voysey and Jones (based in Crouch End) make us a stunning new front door and frame.

It's beautiful, so much nicer than the one we had before. The service throughout all of it was excellent, professional and really friendly. It wasn't cheap, but I had quotes from LDC and timber glazing company and it was better than either of theirs. I was also really dubious about level of service from LDC.

I'm now trying to work out if they can fit us some new patio doors as well one day!

MrsMarigold · 23/01/2015 14:19

Oh I like the look of Vosey and Jones would it be rude to ask how much you paid Ccally15?

BlackbirdOnTheWire · 24/01/2015 18:56

I realise this is a v old thread but since it's still going... We used LDC about 12 years ago for front and back doors and surrounding glass. Hardwood door, bespoke stained glass (individual pieces set in lead, not painted panels). They were expensive then, but not astronomical. 12 years on, it's probably the best investment we made in the house. We still get comments probably three or four times a week, from couriers and grocery drivers to neighbours to friends - and all of the estate agents who came to value the house commented on them and asked who'd done them.

Having said that, it seems there's more competition around now, and recent reports of service are nowhere near as good as we received so we wouldn't necessarily use them again. A neighbour recently used Greenwich Joinery and rates them highly, so I'd definitely go there for a quote.

pashmina696 · 01/02/2015 10:53

I had a beautiful bespoke front door fitted by voysey and jones last year - we had quotes from cotswood and voysey and jones, and voysey and jones came in a bit less (they advised their new workshop means they can be very reasonable on price due to efficiencies) we liked them and it was all done and fitted within a very reasonable timescale - would highly recommend.

Bohman123 · 03/02/2015 00:22

Voysey and Jones IS the former London door company - a former North London branch franchise of the London Door Company. Apparently the son of the london door company's family business broke away and set up his own door company in Crouch End.

stripytees · 03/02/2015 15:51

I had a door and frame from Voysey & Jones last year too. Love the door and the carpenters were good but the lack of communication was really frustrating. They rescheduled two survey appointments, then were late due to traffic (apparently the office shouldn't have scheduled him for 9am because it's "impossible" to drive across London in the mornings), didn't have the fanlight glass until days after the door was fitted, sent someone round without telling me when he was coming, apparently had notes from carpenters to say I had asked for extra things I hadn't, then the carpenters had to come back with little bits of wood for the frame... it was such a pain to deal with it all. But the door is really beautiful and matches my Victorian house so, so well.

uggmum · 03/02/2015 15:56

We are getting our door from www.murtonjoinery.co.uk
I know they are in Doncaster (yorks) but they have done a lot of london jobs. Probably cheaper than a london joiner.

Our builder recommended a joinery company near Chester Jonathan Elwell Bespoke Joinery doormaker.co.uk. We were dubious because they didn’t have a showroom near us but they were extremely competitive on price and the advice we received from Jonathan over the phone was very helpful , I never dreamt there would be so many different types of locking systems, finishes etc. We went for their fitting service as well, their fitters were very thorough and a pleasure to have around. We really wanted to see the quality of their doors before we ordered and it was very handy for us that they were fitting a door and frame about 8 miles away from us so we were able to meet the fitters and check out the quality of work before we placed the order.

Dottyfrog77 · 21/07/2015 22:44

We got quotes from Voysey and Jones, London Door Company and a local firm. The local firm was a composite material that just looked rubbish and actually the most expensive! The two quotes from v&j and LDC were much of a much. I think LDC get a bit of a bad rep on price. I can honestly say, neither company were that steep. We ended up going with London Door Company. Cannot really fault them on quality. Quality of wood used and paint finish really is exceptional, very happy so far.

Jordanbiesley · 13/08/2015 13:53

Never used this company but had my door replaced 2 times due to a burglary and used Prime Alert locksmith. It's a company that's located in Central London EC1. They're are basically locksmiths, but can provide you with a wide range of doors to choose from and has great people on their team.

We're about to start looking for a new front door, we're in South London, has anybody used Bespoke Front Door? I quite like the idea of not having to pay a deposit!

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a good preferably local firm for a new external front door ( I want timber and toughened glass) and 3 new UPVC windows- some bricks will need to be removed for larger window. Had Anglian round who gave ridiculous quote, and some of other big door companies hugely expensive too. Any ideas appreciated. Am in West London (Ealing). Thanks

chickpeaburger · 29/04/2017 17:47

We used Greenmark Joinery. The door is much admired.

Thanks chickpeaburger, will take a look Smile

I used London Door Company and years down the line all the doors and windows have rotted and I am now having to replace them. I asked them to come and see the problem and they refused. I would never recommend this company.

xychromosome99 · 02/10/2017 20:59

My Brother has just had a door fitted by the stained glass doors company . The door and stained glass look great , we may well use them as we currently have a upvc door . The cost for the door including the frame with a fanlight was around £2900 .They are based near Petersfield in Hants but cover London too .
