I went for a browse in my local HUGE Oxfam this morning and ended up getting 4 jumpers (next etc..) 3 going out tops, 1 pair of moleskin trousers, 2 leather belts, a scarf for MIL (new xmas pressie) and 3 pairs of boys jeans (good as new) all for £23. The tops were on offer half price so £1.49 each.

Clothes are all washed and hanging. I let the tops drip dry a bit outside as they were hand wash and one's dry already,I tried it on and it's gorgeous

I got a winter coat in Oxfam for 5.99. It was supposed to be my back-up more casual coat for wearing on walks, to the beach etc, but I'm currently living in it!

JumpingJingleBellsDizzy · 18/12/2008 17:08

Great glad I'm not the only one, although there was just me and the staff in this morning.

I gave a load of clothes away when I lost weight and now need that size (12/14) again. It's brill being able to get them at such a good price.

From charity shops -books books and more books, I'm always amazed at how many brand new ones they have.

But my bargains of the year were from a costume sale that Angel ran (they do the bbcs costumes) you paid either £10 £20 or £50 for a carrier bag and could take whatever you could cram into it. I got a Biba cocktail dress and brooch which will be the best christmas present ever for my best friend, a vivien westwood hat, some dior shoes and a few tunic dresses for me.

I love charity shopping, we have 7 in our highstreet! At least half my wardrobe is charity stuff, nearly all of dd's newborn babygros were from Marie Curie, they have a baby/toddler clothes basket, each item is 20p!

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 18/12/2008 18:08

I got a Monsoon party dress - huge bridesmaid affair for dd last week for £5.95

she will be wearing it to go to the ballet over Chistmas.

I even got one in a smaller size (they were a pair) which I will flog on ebay to cover the cost of party shoes.

JumpingJingleBellsDizzy · 18/12/2008 18:32

Good idea re: ebay and the smaller party dress.

Not charity shop, but nearly, one of the tips round here grabs saleable stuff out and flogs it.
For a £5 note I got a desk, 3 next tops, a monsoon skirt and wool jumper, a sewing kit, a toolbox and 2 books

JumpingJingleBellsDizzy · 19/12/2008 12:35

Wow great tip you have. Mine is 5 minutes away, need to go there today to drop off some stuff.
My friend was moaning to her dh that she needed a new telephone table. He said get your coat, took her to the tip and they found one for £2. That's romance for ya! They have a stunning house though all done on the cheap as they don't have much cash...just heaps of class.

Today I got brand new Next cords (with labels still on) for me, a bedside clock for dd and Thomas fridge magnets for ds all for £3.

I have also had brand new Boden wedges and bag before which were £2 each. Oh and brand new Birkies for £2.

JumpingJingleBellsDizzy · 19/12/2008 12:48

FIMBO think you're the bargain queen there

Oooh, I was wondering whether to start a bragging thread.

I found a lovely paperweight in a charity shop for $6 (am in Aus). When I got it home and looked at the bottom with a magnifying glass, it is signed and is by a moderately famous glass artist and currently worth about $200 (100 quid in your Pommy money). Also found a book I was planning to buy for DH for Christmas anyway for 2 quid.

JumpingJingleBellsDizzy · 19/12/2008 12:51

Excellent ninedragons. I got my mam a book she wanted for Christmas in a thrift shop at church, as new for £2. It's a hardback so would've been a good bit more.
