Primary leavers - is your child leaving school in a limo...

On their last day?

I ask because a number of DS1's class are - he was offered (rather late in day) a place in someone's limo - it was £25 including pizza at Pizza Hut.

I thought it was a bit dear and when he said he wasn't bothered declined (the limo-hirer not a particular pal of DS).

Suspect many/most of the class may be going in limo (several) actually. Hope DS doesn't feel he is missing out!

Anyway, just wondered in quick straw poll if this is the norm? Obv doesn't help DS1 as he walks tragically home from school on last day but I was just interested.

FWIW I think it's a bit barmy.

Afraid to say it does happen here. But then again, in Y11, it's common for the girls to spend over £300 on their 'prom' gear, £50+ on tickets and shared limo on top.
Obscene.

It is not just limos some of the girls have "dates".

dd was worried because she knew she was going to be asked and didn't know what to say. I told her that it was up to her but that she must remember that is brave for the boy to ask so she must be kind. She told the boy that "she is not ready for a boyfriend yet" - I was so proud of her maturity.

No limos here thank goodness. There is a year 6 disco with most of the decorations and food donated by the local 99p shop!

If they have limos for leaving primary school, I tremble to think what they might expect when they leave secondary school!

Thanks for thoughts all.

Yes actually no bunting and cupcakes at the gate from me either - I will have started my new job by then (in a school) so will be getting home later than he does! Ah well.

Yes I imagine he will have a signed T-shirt. That seems fair enough tbh.

LOL @ wedgiesmum (hellloooo!) and box of tissues at random assembly

Don't think we do leavers' assembly, just leavers' show night before last day. I will be emotional wreck for sure (esp as DS2, who is leaving infants school, has his show the week before!)

Agree with those who say if there's a limo for primary, what then for secondary? I am in east mids btw.

would like to beg to differ Feenie here oop North it very much goes on . DD left two years ago with a limo and leavers party and party dress. DS leaves in July with limo and party he however refuses to wear a dinner suit (saw some of the boys at DD'S Y6 LEAVERS PARTY resplendent in James Bond dinner jackets and said absolutely no way would he be doing so in 2 years time !) Actually he is really looking forward to it as a lot of his class will be going to different schools - including him so he sees it as a way to say a final goodbye sob!!!(think I am more emotional than him)

Yes our prom is in the north too, and our school is one where the vast majority of children are from ecomomically and socially deprived backgrounds too.

DS has worked out that if everyone in his year goes then there will be 4 all boy couples when they do the grand parade and photo shoot - and he fully intends to be one of those all boy couples! (one of the parents is a photographer and does loads of photos for the school to help record acheivements and events)

Hiya Clary! Can you imagine what I'm going to be like when DS has his leavers assembly given how fab this school has been compared to the ones before? Kleenex are sponsoring me LOL!!!! Are you holidaying this year as usual? We are going 17-31 July if you are there perhaps we could see you again? Would love to see you and yours (especially DS1 as I really enjoy our conversations!).

Dd1 is in Y5. She would LOVE to leave school in a limo, but it is not going to happen!

There seems to be more limos each year at dd1 school. She is leaving this year, definitly not in a limo! DD2 went to a school disco in Yr 3 and a friend got picked up in a limo! Whats that all about?
