chochobnob, dd is a juice addict but has been coming home all week with her juice undrunk and sits down in the hall the second she gets in the door and roots it out of her lunchbag to drink no idea why?

She had to walk in herself this morning from the gate luckily one of the older girls saw her looking a bit worried and gave her a big hug and held her hand and brought her over to the Junior Infants door to her classmates.... one of the advantages of a little village school is how sweet the older kids are with the tiny ones.

I'm quite jealous of all of you who enjoyed having your kids home all the time... dd has never been the type to cuddle up with a movie, is hyper and cross most of the time at home and on top of that she and ds1 are so close in age they fight 24/7 so there's never a moments peace in the house. I got some of the nice moments ye describe with ds1 while she was at playschool but now he's gone so i'll have to make the most of the 3 years before ds2 leaves me as well!

PinkTulips · 03/09/2009 10:05

ooooo, missed your post EldonAve.... hope he has a ball. Poor dd missing him though, bet she'll soon start to enjoy having you all to herself though

good luck with pick up, can't wait to hear how he got on.... if he tells you!

MarshaBrady · 03/09/2009 10:06

Yes there were a few husbands milling around in our small classroom, one taking pictures. Parents generally being 'big'.

But I was surprised at the volume of noise. Ds was sad unfortunately, but I left him making up some writing which helped. Can't say I enjoyed it. Looking forward to picking him up at 3.30.

PinkTulips · 03/09/2009 10:10

just read the poem

[runs off blubbing to stare at the school out her window and wring her hands for the next 4 hours]

PinkTulips · 03/09/2009 10:12

Poor ds Marsha, he'll probably be fine once he gets over the shock though. Luckily our teacher insisted on one parent per child and told us quite quickly to feck off once the kids were in their seats

What a long day though for tiny ones

Oh God I just cried on the phone to mil. That's a first!

Think she quite liked it. Am so tired due to pregnancy insomnia someone asking how it was tipped me over the edge.

Cripes.

PinkTulips · 03/09/2009 10:33

I cried on the phone once to my MOL.... ds2 was in scbu and they had just discharged me and she rang and i started blubbing.... she practically hung up mid sentance she was in such a rush to get off the phone

Have a good cry and then head upstairs for a well deserved lie down... don't forget to set the alarm though (not that i slept through pick up time while pregnant or anything )

MarshaBrady · 03/09/2009 10:35

Aw sorry to hear that she was like that. Haha at sleeping past pick up!

I always lie there in anticipation of having to get up if I have an afternoon sleep.

Acinonyx · 03/09/2009 10:36

I've been working 3 days/week and now cutting down to 2 days/week (might go back up to 3 next term) so I will actually spend more time with dd now she's starting school. I will miss the afternoon/lunch playdates with other families very much though.

I am worried about her being with a large group of strangers (no friends in her class) as she is very shy. She was taken off me wailing at the settling in session so I am braced for more of the same tomorrow - just hope she gets used to it quickly and finds a playmate.

Dh has taken the afternoon off. I'd just as soon he only came to collect not to pick up. I'd like to just do the drop off myself as I will be doing it every day thereafter.

fruitful · 03/09/2009 16:18

First day today. Ds1 lined up in the playground behind his friend, and trotted off with never a backward glance. Came bounding out 3 hours later, said he'd done "nothing" all morning and could he watch tv when he got home please?

Phew!

2 more days of half days before he has to tackle a school lunch!

bodenaddict · 03/09/2009 17:24

hi fruiful - bless him

How did it go, Eldon and Marsha?

MarshaBrady · 03/09/2009 18:27

Hey. Well I picked him up and he was full of smiles and said he had a great day.

Then since he knows only one boy, all the rest of nursery are too young to start or are going elsewhere, he said this boy had been a meany and hadn't let him play with the other boys. They were meant to be very good friends so bah not good.

So I need to help him make new friends all over again. He has been ok at this in the past, but hope it doesn't become an issue with the old nursery friend being mean - that will annoy me immensely!

Not sure what to do other than gently encourage new friendships?

Aranea · 03/09/2009 18:29

Oh, Marsha, I wouldn't worry too much. As far as I can tell their friendships are very fluid and forgiving at this age. I expect it was a short-lived issue and not something that lasted all day. I know my dd1 will recount a brief spat and forget to mention that she played perfectly happily with someone for the rest of the day.

Great news that he enjoyed his day!

MarshaBrady · 03/09/2009 18:34

Thanks, I hope so!
I suppose it's good he can still enjoy being there when someone is a 'meany'.

EldonAve · 03/09/2009 19:26

From what I can gather DS had an okay time apart from skinning his knee at break

I guess I will see if he is happy to go tomorrow or not

teafortwo · 03/09/2009 19:32

Great news on so many super first days - hurray!!!!

newspaperdelivery · 03/09/2009 21:07

Phew - so many babies are out there at school now!!

I can see why your worried Marsha, I agree with EldonAve but would feel as you do, iyswim? Probably be best friends tomorrow!

ChocHobNob · 03/09/2009 21:59

Back again. Hope everyone's first days went well x

Well, the lunchbox thing. The teacher had no idea when I asked this morning. She said she would keep an eye on him this lunch time to make sure everything was OK. When I picked him up, his lunch box was open and he was shouting "MUM! MUM! Look! I ate it all!" So no idea what happened yesterday but glad he was OK today.

Me and the hubby dropped ds1 off on the first day. He was just as eager to see him off as I was lol

It's not too bad at my ds1's school. The teacher just opens the door and greets them one by one as they go in so the parents don't get in the way in the class room.

golgi · 03/09/2009 22:35

Hello, can I join in on the new thread please?
Monday starts here - big boy to school, little boy to nursery, me back to school as well. I'm going to be able to do the first drop-off but that's all.
I've had a lovely lovely summer holiday with both my boys, as others have said I don't want it to be over.

EldonAve · 04/09/2009 09:00

ChocHobNob - glad to hear the lunch was eaten and your DS1 was fine

Golgi - what will you be studying?

DH felt he missed out on the first day drop off so he took DS today

golgi · 04/09/2009 13:21

Eldon - I'm a teacher!

EldonAve · 04/09/2009 14:12

Doh! I just assumed you were off to study something exciting!!

PinkTulips · 04/09/2009 14:32

not even a week in and i was late to collect her

was walking from toddler group and ds1 was plodding along whinging so much i was a few mins late and she was the last left with the teacher... between that and beeing late on trial day i think we're on the teachers 'neglectful parents' list
