hi ladies here is our new thread

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
teafortwo · 18/09/2009 10:33

OMG!!! We have only just woken up!!! This going to school in the afternoon thing is exhausting. I can't think to next year when we have to be there at 9 rather than 1.30!!!!

Did I mention that I was about three minutes late picking DD up yesterday. OH THE SHAME of running in a flustered and crazy way towards the school gate as all the wonderful and together 'on time' Mummy's walk past with their happy child next to them.

Forget walking home a bit tipsy in your party dress (which I have always found rather fun) - Being late for 'school pick up' surely is the real and true walk of shame!!!

golgi · 18/09/2009 19:13

The boy came home with a special "Headteachers Award" sticker today, he went up in assembly to collect it. I am very proud of him (although I realise it's one of those things that they all get in turn - it's probably alphabetical!)

He was very pleased with himself too. Sticker is now on the fridge.

Reception teacher said there'd been lots of tears today as they are all very very tired - they're all doing 9-3.30 every day.

Hope everyone gets a relaxing weekend with plenty of sleep for the tired Receptionists.

roundabout1 · 18/09/2009 19:23

Golgi - That's wonderful I bet he's so plaesed with himself

Tea - lol at the walk of shame.

Acinonyx - hope you all have a better night tonight.

Well dd ran out of school with a big smile on her face, seems she had a slightly better day today. Ate very little of her packed lunch but more than the last few days & she had some of her fruit juice although she refused to have any of her milk at snack time. She ate her lunch in her classroom with one of the dinnerladies in the hope she ate more, didn't really work as not much improvement & acco4rding to dd she still cried when she didn't want to eat anymore. Think we may give school dinners a go nxt wk, dd is keen as long as I tell her teacher that she doesn't eat many veg. So so relieved it is friday!
Hope you all have a great wkend & the lo's get to catch up on their much needed sleep x

teafortwo · 18/09/2009 19:52

golgi - I have never been in a school where they take turns to get an award. OK we are careful not to leave anyone out but praise is given where it is deserved! BE PROUD!!!!

I just re-read my own post - eeeek at 'Mummy's' - . Seriously I am worried abou me! - That is the second time I have done that on mn this week. - Why oh why???

Aranea · 18/09/2009 20:12

Happy weekend everybody! I'm on a nice full-bodied red myself

I think this week has gone pretty well for us. Dd1 is tired but I do think she is still enjoying herself. She has only had a wobble once in the morning and her teacher is lovely and helpful. And today she informed me that the school cooks were very good cooks. I think this is because they have fed her cake almost every day.

She's still only on half-days, so I'm bracing myself for the full-time reaction, but so far so good.

I've got an appointment with the senco on tuesday, and realise I have no idea what to say. Hopefully I will achieve some sort of clarity before then, red wine notwithstanding.

Acinonyx · 18/09/2009 20:39

Another full-bodied red here too. I thought dd was tired - then 5 pm she wanted to take her bike to the park and now it's after 8.30 and she's still awake playing etchasketch in bed I despair... I think it's only me that's getting worn out.

norfolklass · 18/09/2009 20:54

Glad everyone had a fairly good end to the week...am very jealous of the wine and am wondering if I could persuage DH to go and get me some-I think not lol!
Golgi-well done on your DS...what a star!
Aranea-Lol at your dd having cake everyday...my DS informs me that 1 of the dinnerladies is called Miss Pop Up because she keeps popping up to open stuff...I thought he was joking at first but I think he actually thinks she is called that!

DS had a lovely day and got a sticker for being helpful this afternoon which was nice. He also came out of school with a book bag full of stuff to do over weekend-a book to read (with no words),some JP sounds to learn and 9 key words to learn and a note that says there are 100 words to learn by the end of reception and basically please start with these. Am a bit annoyed tbh because it seems an awful lot to do (have done another post about it as well)...but typically its happened on a friday so can't say anything until monday.

Anybody else had any words, books etc yet? wasn't expecting this for a good few weeks yet!

Aranea · 18/09/2009 21:01

No, no words or anything like that yet. Just lots of drawings and playing in the home corner as far as I can tell. I don't think they get going on anything much till next half-term.

Acinonyx · 18/09/2009 21:06

We've been told that as of next week they will be bringing home books and letters/words to learn.

Certainly don't remember doing anything of the sort with my parents when I was at school. I'm not a big fan of school prescribing how parents educate their dc. I'd rather do different stuff at home.

I've heard all the gumph about wordless picture books but

golgi · 18/09/2009 22:01

Norfolklass that does sound like a lot. But if you don't want to do it, don't do it. Just relax and enjoy your weekend - plenty of time for them to learn word sounds at school, I think. I'm not a fan of homework for small children either.

No books here, book bag was empty. I don't think they've done much except play. They've been to the park, bashed musical instruments, threaded buttons and learned to do star jumps, but not much mention of "work".

He did bring home a book last weekend with some letter shapes stuck in, I was a bit surprised that they seem to be learning the cursive script style joined up writing versions already, as I thought they did printing first. We had a look at the letters but didn't do anything else - I can't get the boy to pick up a pencil and besides we were on the beach last weekend.

newspaperdelivery · 19/09/2009 00:40

Thank crunchie it's Friday.

Lots of niggly issues with the school really, but too tired to even think about them really. Will fill you all in though and have a really good catch up.

Our first weekend and I have said yes to a 'short staffed so needed' night duty. On tomorrow night. Am on mat leave at the mo. Think of the money

So tired!

Will catch up properly tomorrow hopefully. x

golgi - I think they bypass printing these days.

newspaperdelivery · 20/09/2009 14:42

Hi all hope the uniforms are all washed and ironed.

Oh....I should be doing that!

Need to label dd's gloves etc. It was very windy and cold in her playground t'other day. Shes still really tired and strained.

Niggles with first week

Wrong dinners - fine, a mistake, but why didn't they ell us? They knew last week.
Lunch juice - it's 20p which the children have to bring in with them. I had no clue about this but once I did I asked them to pass on 20p to her. It was still in her drawer in an envelope marked 'dds juice money'. She can't read and she won't remember, she is 4!

She said she was really cold at lunch time because she forgot she had a coat. So did no one check they got sorted out, or did she not want one on at the time. It's hard as they aren't exactly reliable witnesses are they, but at the same time I have more faith in her than the school at this stage.

The cloakroom is busy and there is a huge box where her coat goes so she cant hang it up properly. Plus a large obstruction infront of the pegs which makes them cramped and under more presure. I actually wonder if it's there to keep parents back so we can't interefere in coat hanging

Have parents evening soon so will maybe raise tehse points then. It has been a nightmare start for them there, staff sickness and stuff. Maybe start again tomorrow and see ho we go.

They have been lovely about the constipation. That finally arived Fri night. Am hoping for action today - wish us luck!

bodenaddict · 20/09/2009 16:30

hi

back to school tomorrow

didnt realise dd1 needed a school coat in there school colours so dashed out to buy a red one on friday

OP posts:
Acinonyx · 20/09/2009 17:00

Have washed a pile of polo shirt but I couldn't get the miscellaneous sauce out of one of them and binned it. We have our ironing done as we both hate it but there is no escaping dd's polo shirts - I will just have to do them sigh.

Clearing up papers in the kitchen dh handed me a pile of school papers including a quantity of forms that should have been returned last June including the free milk one (I did wonder but dd assured me that no-one got milk.... ). So will take those in tomorrow, apologetically.

It's PE tomorrow I wonder how long it actually takes to get 28 4-5 yr-olds in and out of their kit??

I got dd a raincoat for the autumn then a heavier brown weather proof. Said coat is rather jazzy so I'm hoping coats are exempt from uniform rules. I asked another mum (a total stranger) in the shop at the time if she thought it would be OK for school and she thought it would so armed with that expert second opinion I gave in to temptation and bought it.

newspaperdelivery · 20/09/2009 19:14

Hiding from the ironing.

newspaperdelivery · 20/09/2009 19:20

Can we have a big high 5 as dd has done a poo so she doesn't have to spend tomorrow sluggish, tired, bloated, hungry with no appetite.

I feel like starting thread and ordering a take away to celebrate!

Acinonyx · 20/09/2009 19:27

Definitely celebrate! Was hoping for a Sunday delivery from dd here but alas, seems not....

newspaperdelivery · 20/09/2009 19:41

Do you know, I can't believe there is anyone out there who actually lives like this too. Whilst I am very sorry for you and dd it is nice to have someone who knows what it's like.

If that makes sense and doesn't sound awful.

She tries so hard, and sees and feels the relief in the house when it has happened, I think she worries she makes us sad by being constipated and is always happy when 'he' comes as she is like that. Anxious to please.

Oh my Is it anywonder I want an entertainer and balloons at her birthday party in a couple of weeks? Poor mite.

I hope your dd can shift it and isn't too affected. Ours has suddenly taken to eating semi dried apricots and prunes. It's a miracle.

Acinonyx · 20/09/2009 20:22

Dd has recently taken agaisnt fruit of all kinds except bananas I tried yogurt covered raisins today but she said the raisins were too chewy and spat them out

Yes, indeed, you really have to walk that walk to understand how obsessed a household becomes.

golgi · 20/09/2009 20:28

Newspaper - happy to hear he arrived today!

Boy has his phases of poo trouble - one day on the beach this summer we spent more time in the toilet than out of it, trying to poo while queues of people built up.... But he's OK at the moment, luckily it's not all the time.

I have ironed the polo shirts. Was wondering if I could get away with just doing the collars and telling him not to take his jumper off.....

I think coats are whatever you feel like at our school, although I bought him a fairly sober grey one rather than bright and stripy just in case.

paisleyleaf · 20/09/2009 20:59

Acrinonyx, dd's been bringing home books, flashcards etc since day 1. They're asking for 10 minutes a day looking at them. I'm not too thrilled about it either. And with the Native American head dress she's had to make at home too - that's been about 2 hours of homework last week.

Newspaper high5!

DD was upset last week when someone stamped on a caterpillar.......turns out she's been playing with the caterpillars when she's got no-one to play with.
No wonder she was so upset about that one and is still mentioning it.

newspaperdelivery · 20/09/2009 21:49

Paisleyleaf, that would be a chin wobbler for me. Bless her heart!

Acininyx - I have bought some baby food from German company Holle [they dairy and gluten free for my intolerant one] and I got a really lovely little booklet. They detail foods, listing stool softening and stool firming and stool regulating.

firming - carrots, rice, banana,
softening -millet, spelt, oats, semolina, pumpkin, courgette, apple, pear, peach,
regulating - spinach, carrots, chicken, potato, beef, apple, banana, rice

I think regulating is another way of saying fibre and gut motility. I didn't think banana could be a slower downer although my gran now says everyone knows that.

golgi · 20/09/2009 22:16

Paisley - Native American Head dress? That sort of thing gives me the heeby jeebies. I just hope they give me plenty of notice, I have my own homework to deal with in the evenings!

Aranea · 20/09/2009 22:19

Oh paisleyleaf that is just too poignant for words. Your dd sounds adorable. I am really struggling to avoid trite butterfly metaphors now.

Definitely a big high 5 for newspaper! Dd1 used to be terribly constipated when she was younger (to the point of bleeding and vomiting with straining), and we had to completely cut out bananas which was a pain when she was tiny and they are the perfect baby/toddler food! She seems OK now as she does go every day, but somehow it always does still feel like a bit of an issue and she takes ages about it. I'm interested to hear that it can cause pallor and tiredness, as she has always tended to be rather pale and tired-looking.

Good luck for Monday morning everyone! It's a bit of a shock to the system, suddenly feeling that slight Sunday evening dread.

golgi · 20/09/2009 22:28

Aranea - I've always had the slight Sunday evening dread.
Had a discussion with son last week where I tried to convince him that at my school I am actually the teacher. I'm not sure he believes me.
