Wondered if hand holding for Sept newbies would be nice?

Just that really. Like an antenatal thread but for parents of children starting primary in Sept.

We have our taster afternoon in a couple of weeks - it all feels so alien. Haven't felt this out of it since I bought my 1st pack of nappies and got the giggles at the checkout!

Good idea swissmiss i think she will be the only one in her class with our surname

swissmiss · 27/06/2009 22:34

I'm guessing you're right there!

wolfnipplechips · 28/06/2009 02:34

I've just returned from dd's new school ball, it was very nice, we sat with her new teacher and she's lovely and very friendly, all the parents were very nice too. Not nearly as much pressure as i thought

teafortwo · 28/06/2009 10:36

wolf - that is fab. I was getting a bit because I had heard so little from Milk's school. All I know is that she is going there.

Luckily I know a few people with children at the school and enquired...

The person I asked said I get a big pack through in July... JULY.... (sits on hands and tries to wait that long!!!)

teafortwo · 28/06/2009 10:37

Fatgirlthin and Leve - wow - good luck wih the moving and sarting school - [impressed emotion]

teafortwo · 28/06/2009 10:39

LTeve - sorry about mis-typing your name - I have to really whack my t to get it to work and sometimes forget to!!!

wolfnipplechips · 28/06/2009 11:18

Times going so fast isn't it. i just tried sneak a weekend at centre parcs in before school holidays as it might be the last time for a while then i realised that they start next week .

I'm so impressed with everybodies tagging and organising, i've ordered dds uniform but it has a 6 week delivery time so i'll just have to wait.

tea it was lovely not nearly as intimidating as i thought, last week at her settling in day i made a faux pas when one of the mums said we all have to get together i piped up "ooh yes lets have wine" and she said "i meant the girls" so last night was a relief, i made friends with the bigger girls who like to drink . feel bad this am though.

lollyheart · 28/06/2009 20:52

Lol wolfnipplechips

Silly question, how are you all labeling shoes?

golgi · 28/06/2009 21:01

I was going to write in the inside in permanent pen.

Tea - heard nothing from school either, and boy goes to the nursery there. Don't know when he starts (although "early September" is probably a good bet).

I'm going to miss out on all the social side of it because I'm always at work - I am pretty antisocial anyway though.

Just got back from a weekend at the coast - thick fog all weekend. Sat on the beach, in the fog. Heatwave starts tomorrow when I'm back at work. Pah.

teafortwo · 28/06/2009 21:27

Gogi - Great! I am not alone. I heard on the grapevine I will get a postcard telling us the date and time for the first day and warned that all in all it is likely to last about an hour... I better warn work...

lollyheart - I saw these but didn't buy and now I don't know if I should have or if it is all ott and a pen will do? What do you think? I would value your opinion...

wolf - At a baby party, a while back now (sob), one Mum had made a cocktail just for the adults. I asked her how she made it. She listed off the ingredients lots of hot ginger amongst other stuff and another Mum said "and vodka of course". I went "Well it is very nice" and took another sip. They all fell about laughing at the idea of it possibly having vodka in with babies around and me believing it had and carrying on drinking.

golgi · 28/06/2009 22:03

I found out about uniform by sending my spies to ask another mum in the playground.

You'd think the school would be a little more forthcoming with information, but hey it's only June.

I think it might be because it's a small village school, a lot of the new starters have siblings there already, they probably assume they don't need to bother.

lollyheart · 28/06/2009 22:05

teafortwo i like those shoe labels, my dd would choose the tinkerbell ones but i think she looks drunk

lollyheart · 28/06/2009 22:10

Ive just seen the price 12 pound for 24

teafortwo · 28/06/2009 22:41

Milk thinks they are fab but I think they aren't pretty... and 12 pounds seems a lot for something not pretty...

I think I will think of a different method.

lollyheart · 28/06/2009 22:48

I have just had a look on ebay, lots to choose from on there and only a few pounds.

PinkTulips · 29/06/2009 11:29

golgi... same here again, the school seems to have presumed that we all 'know' about uniforms and start dates and all that and have given us no information at all.

Wheelybug · 29/06/2009 16:39

HI all

Bought dd's logo'd uniform today as had to go to a shop near the uniform shop. Despite her having a temp of 39 this afternoon she was desperate to try it on. V. cute.

So, just shoes to get nearer the time and water bottle (no lunches until after christmas) which has to be high school musical apparently.

On the shoe labels - I ordered a starter pack of stick on labels so got shoe labels and other stick on labels for £9.99 I think on cashes.

DD goes into her class on thurs so hoping she's better by then !

We also have the opportunity to go in on wed and 'talk about our child individually' - not really sure whether go or not. Its not compulsory. DH thinks I should... but not sure what I'd say about her !!

treedelivery · 29/06/2009 20:13

Hi all.

Benn away from mn 2 days [!] so will catch up asap. Nearly Thursday and induction afternoon. Hurrah!

Hope babyWheelybug is feeling better.

evening

dd1 has her first taster session tomorrow morning (11-12) and then quick lunch in chair whilst I drive her straight to preschool (12.30-3) whilst shes there I need to go back to school to meet her teacher at 1.40 for a 1-1 chat (although dd2 will have to come and she will hot, tired and miserable about being shunted in abd out of the car by then so it should be fun )

Mum bought some material with dd1 today and is going to make her a PE bag and embroider her name on it (dd1 was so ecited about choosing the material and then chose plain red !!!!)

eandh · 29/06/2009 20:34

lunch in car I meant (was talking to dh about the chairs I have just ordered )

lollyheart · 29/06/2009 20:47

DD has her 4th session tomorrow, then next week she goes into her class room on her own.

We had a parents evening last week, we met her teacher then she seems very nice, we have our home visit on the 3rd of sept.

I'm going to get all her uniform tomorrow, i dont have to buy to much cause my niece is in yr r now so i get all her clothes that she grows out off

I'm thinking of getting her shoes tomorrow as well , her feet dont grow very fast, knowing my luck tho she will have a growth spurt just before she starts

swissmiss · 29/06/2009 21:58

Sounds like you're all making good progress.

Finally got info about start date today. 7th Sept, 2 wks of half days incl. lunch then full time. Also have a parents meeting on 13th July for final infos and dap bags!

I went to the book sale this am whilst DS was at pre-school. I'm really glad I went, met 2 mums who live on my road, one with DS starting this Sept and other with DD2 who'll be starting in Sept 2010 with my DD1! Plus several other mums too. Also got the low down on the whole incorrect admissions saga which has resulted in 3 additional kids, off the back of my DS being incorrectly given a place, in a class of 15!

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 30/06/2009 12:43

Hello. I don't really belong here as DD won't start going to school until after Christmas (and will be in a mixed nursery/reception class) as she'll be 4 in September. There is an intake every term and they go mornings only for the first two terms.

DS is just finishing his reception year and has a lovely time so I am very glad DD will be going into the same class .

My only minor worry is that admissions times have changed here since DS started school - it used to be you applied by the end of September and found out before Christmas for the next September (ie before your child started in nursery). Now you won't apply until January (I think) and find out in April.

If the school had a siblings first policy it would be fine. We do live in the village and there are quite a few children who don't who go to the school, but I just like to feel sure .

DD is already looking forward to going to school

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 30/06/2009 12:44

The taggits look great. I have lovely name tapes but never get round to sewing them in and write in pen instead . May get some taggits.

treedelivery · 30/06/2009 12:45

Hi all.

Sounds like lots is happening. Am getting more and more at the way our school has 1 2 hour session for new starters.

I'll see how dd1 is, if she is anxious after tomorrow I'm going to ask for her to go for school dinner or something next week. What do you think?
