a banana. No lunch on first day - no lunch until after Sept weekend!

clayre · 17/08/2008 09:05

i was discussing this with a friend of mine last week both our dc are starting school on tuesday, they only go in the morning for 3 weeks so havent thought about lunches yet, snack is a tough one cos dd will eat anything but i dont want her being the only child eating fruit every day, and the school provides fruit 3 days a week for P1, i'm not really much help!!!

Weegiemum · 17/08/2008 09:15

We will probably go for a banana or an apple for snack.

Again, here no lunch until after September weekend.

Can't believe this time tomorrow she'll be at school!

clayre · 17/08/2008 09:17

are you in scotland?

i'm sure it's the same up there as it here (from talking to my sister) and they get fruit and milk in their morning break for the first few years of school so no need for a separate snack.

lunchbox wise, DS gets a sandwich, roll or wrap, usually with ham, cheese, tuna or egg, a pot of fruit salad or a single piece of fruit, a yogurt, some tomatoes or carrot/cucumber batons, and a drink, either milk fruit juice or water.

He dioesn;t always eat it all, but I make him eat what's left as we walk home from school.

tassisssss · 17/08/2008 13:54

Hi girls, ds starts on Tuesday too though as flier says it's looking like school may be closed on Wed.

Funny to see this thread as I'd been wondering about snack (or "play piece" as we used to call it). Packed lunch on day one will be roll, yog, strawberries and grapes in wee pot, maybe a babybel and crisps on the understanding that crisps will NOT be a regular! Hadn't thought about snack...

Flier · 17/08/2008 14:37

scottish schools (certainly not highland anyway) do not get milk or fruit supplied for snack. I know a wee trolley goes round for morning break and they can buy toast or juice, but suddenly thought I'd be better supplying something else.

thanks everyone for replying

oh, I thought scottish schools would be ahead of english ones in the nutritional stakes. I'm sure my sis said they even get free school meals until they are 7.

Flier · 17/08/2008 18:17

don't know where your sis heard that, altho I do remember seeing something on the news regarding re-introducing the free school milk

mrz · 17/08/2008 18:28

LackaDAISYcal · 17/08/2008 18:41

ah, she is in Fife, so that explains it. Thanks MrZ

tassisssss · 17/08/2008 19:32

interesting articly, mrz

i'm in stirling clayre

hannahsaunt · 17/08/2008 19:53

Ds1 received milk and fruit throughout P2 (didn't do P1 here). Not in P3 though that may have been because he was in a composite P3/4 and where there was a distinction (e.g. timing of break time) they acted up.

Ds2 scheduled to start on Wednesday but dear knows with this strike thing...we won't know until Tuesday. Haven't told him that it may be a possibility.
