I haven't seen another thread similar to previous years, so thought it would be beneficial to start one as exams are now 1 month away.
I think SHHS, UCS, KCJS and WUS are all in October.

Also - Curious to see if number of applicants are down this year, with Labour's VAT raid.

I'm curious if SPJS and WUS stopped sponsoring child student visas starting this year or last year. Do you know if this is the first time this change was made at both schools compared to last year's exams?

I know the change applies to this year's exam for the first time at King's.

Not sure, I think if not this year, then last year was the first time.

We did the 7 plus last year, the whole of Wimbledon around kings was swarming with hundreds of boys sitting for 7/8+. I think it was around the 400 mark. Bearing in mind also that this year they are not taking boys who are non British citizens to sit the exams where as previously, boys would fly in to take the exams.
We are trying for the 8+ this year. My DS is a summer baby so hopefully a years of maturity will have helped us this time around.
Wishing you all the best

Have those doing 8+ received any more details from Kings yesterday? We haven't been allocated any group number... but perhaps it's just one big group for 8+

No but I did recheck the email from last week which says all boys doing 8+ are in the sports hall so assuming no grouping

yes, seem so. Good luck for Saturday!

Are the kids confined to their classrooms for the entire morning, with the exception of toilet breaks?

I don’t think so - they are allowed to go out in breaks.

San2023 · 10/10/2024 18:34

Are they getting breaks after each subject exam or random? How do the breaks work?

Caps0218 · 10/10/2024 18:46

I was told last year they didn’t leave the classroom. Perhaps I’m mistaken,

OP posts:
2minutesplease · 10/10/2024 19:08

A few years ago some kids had breaks and could go out to the playground but some just weren’t lucky and were too far away from the playground so they stayed in the Hall during breaks.

Caps0218 · 11/10/2024 08:18

Just noticed that we don't need to bring a ruler, just a couple of pencils and a rubber. So hopefully that means not wasting time drawing measured lines! Unless they provide a ruler!

We did the 9+ at KCS this morning. There were around 85 registered for the assessment, while according to my son, the turnout should be a bit less, say 70-80. Previously, it was said to be about 100. So the VAT does have an effect I suppose. So I guess the 7+ and 8+ tomorrow will likewise be less than last year.

Thank you for sharing, hope exam went well. Any surprises in the exam-unknown formats in eng or maths? Thank you

Wishing all the mums and their DS good luck for tomorrow. We have done our best supporting little ones. Now let's keep calm and stay positive!🤞🏼🤞🏼😀

Bring the ruler, just in case. For 9+, the email said to bring pencils and rubber. It didn't mention ruler. In 9+ math test, you do need a ruler. ( Of course, the invigilator can lend you one if you ask. ) Not sure about 7+ 8+

Nothing special. The math test for 9+ is the traditional format, not the new 7+8+ format. English comprehension as usual but writing if split into 3 smaller parts. No non-verbal reasoning.

Londonswmum01 · 11/10/2024 22:19

Also, you need to stay at your seat during break time.

Caps0218 · 11/10/2024 22:34

Thanks re ruler, we will put a small one in his pencil case just in case.
i heard about this re-breaks, as long as he can go to the loo, which we have told he must in the first break!

Actually I can see why we don’t need a ruler, measuring or drawing a line doesn’t really fit in with the new format!

During the drop-off at gate having groups- 11-20 (the last gate for even surnames starting with Z), I felt there were fewer boys, less than 80. I wonder how it was at the other gates.

Caps0218 · 12/10/2024 09:29

I'd guess at 300 at most. Nevertheless lots of competition.

WUS on Friday....think we will see 400 boys there.

Powerpray · 12/10/2024 09:48

At the drop off for groups 1-10 - there were quite a lot of boys. Couple hundred if I were to guess

I was there and I thought there were way more than 80....

Caps0218 · 12/10/2024 09:58

So based on group numbers, maximum would be 300. It did seem very busy, but then many were families with brothers and sisters.
Still 300 is better than the 400 of previous years when kids were flown in!

Now sitting in a coffee shop.....3 more hours to go!

San2023 · 12/10/2024 10:01

Probably, I made a wrong estimation and might have missed many behind me after the our drop-off.
