I haven't seen another thread similar to previous years, so thought it would be beneficial to start one as exams are now 1 month away.
I think SHHS, UCS, KCJS and WUS are all in October.

Also - Curious to see if number of applicants are down this year, with Labour's VAT raid.

Does anyone know when are they going to announce the results for 8+ kings college ?

I wish we knew for 7+ too… if we are lucky - anytime this week. If not - anytime next week.

Caps0218 · 11/11/2024 21:34

Last interviews are tomorrow, so I would assume we get email end of this week.

Just trying to gauge numbers for SPJS. One of the staff said that children will be in classes of around 20 for the exam. From the email, there seems to be only 10 classrooms? Could there only be around 200 kids?

i would have expected 300+, similar to Kings?

Could there be a morning and afternoon sitting? I can’t recall seeing the start time shared anywhere yet

Choberia · 12/11/2024 18:44

Oh, actually I just got the email. 8:45 start for us.

Same for us, I think that’s for everyone. I don’t think they have an afternoon start.
Also the Friday in the 2nd round is a clash with the City exam.

Oh no! That’s frustrating. We had a same day WUS and King’s interview which was absolutely exhausting for them. I know a few others in the same situation.

Caps0218 · 12/11/2024 19:08

@Choberia King’s must have put the interviews in the afternoon, otherwise there would have been a clash. Ours was Thursday,
Do you have a preference of school?

OP posts:
user14809753 · 12/11/2024 19:20

It would be wonderful if it could be only 200. WUS had over 350.

Caps0218 · 12/11/2024 19:26

@user14809753 We went to the open day which was for 7&8+ There were 3 sessions, and our session I think there weee 90-100 kids? But I would be surprised if there were only 200 applying….maybe not sponsoring visas anymore or the bridge being closed?

I think some had morning interviews and had to reschedule, but I’m not certain. Ours was afternoon Wednesday and it was tight. I don’t think I have a strong preference, they are all fantastic. Leaning towards Kings or St Paul’s.

Caps0218 · 12/11/2024 19:41

@Choberia Glad to hear they can rearrange even if they say they don’t.
We prefer SPJS, but Kings is also wonderful. To be honest, we would be grateful for any of them.

So, kings interviews finished today?
My impression was that they were all totally different depending on the interviewer (and there were at least 6 different teachers, including the headmaster and his deputies.

Caps0218 · 12/11/2024 20:50

@2minutesplease Interesting…and also the level of the mental maths that was asked appeared to be quite different. Then there was also the traffic light coding of the boys….all very mysterious!

I think it didn’t really matter if the boy knew the answer to more difficult maths question as they already assessed him in the 1st round. They probably looked at how he’d handle it, try to solve or not etc

I heard some boys got asked single digit multiplication, while others were given double digit x double digit. I guess we will find out soon enough.

I don’t recall any traffic light coding of the boys? I just remember waiting in the waiting area of the junior school talking to other parents and then three different teachers came to take the boys in pairs

A few people stood close enough to one of the teachers and saw the lists with the names being colour-coded.

We noticed on the paper that had all the boys names, most were green and some yellow and red.

Totally true.

Totally true.

Perhaps the boys that did well in maths were given harder questions to see how strong they are?

OP posts:
SWlondonmum123 · 12/11/2024 21:13

Oh I didn’t get close enough to the teacher to notice any colour coding. My son said that the teacher made notes on a computer during the interview

For my DS’s interview pair, they asked each boy which times tables they knew and quizzed them according to how they answered.

Yes - My DS had that too. I guess we will find out from today onwards....
