I haven't seen another thread similar to previous years, so thought it would be beneficial to start one as exams are now 1 month away.
I think SHHS, UCS, KCJS and WUS are all in October.

Also - Curious to see if number of applicants are down this year, with Labour's VAT raid.

The interviews for KCS are both still on going got 7+ and 8+ until Tuesday I believe? That means results are probably not expected till at least end of the week if not by midweek next week?

Yes - I’m mentally preparing for mid week next week.

Caps0218 · 10/11/2024 14:18

@Powerpray @SWlondonmum123 Seems they do 4 kids an hour, so it’s going to take time! Would be great if we get something next week!

We didn't sit King's due to distance, but I'm really impressed with how they do their assessments! They took the time to read over 300 stories, and now they're doing these long paired interviews for everyone who made it to the second round. If they interviewed 120 people, that would take at least 60 hours of the teachers' time! They seem invested in seeing as many different aspects of the candidates as they can.

Fullmoon99 · 10/11/2024 15:32

I’m really impressed with King’s as well. Their communication has been excellent. TBH we initially thought of King’s as a warm-up for others due to distance, but in the process of visiting and applying we’ve come to like it enough to move and it’s DS’s favourite...

Hi Caps - it’s more than 4 an hour - at least in our slot - multiple teachers were involved - there were 4 kids who went in before us - 4 again in our set and then about 8 in the next set … so def more than that per hour.

I’d echo everything that has been said - the headmaster recording a video for the candidates, set the tone for us really. My DS recalled the headteacher’s words before going in for the exam - so that was brilliant - and he had clearly had an impact on him :) ( We’ve personally heard great things about the Headmaster as well - he is bringing great energy in the school and parent community)

plus the activity morning and interview discussion - all speak volumes about the school. Keeping everything crossed for Kings we are :)

Caps0218 · 10/11/2024 19:43

I think it’s a wonderful school. If we lived in Wimbledon it would be our first choice. We may still move, depending on results. I guess everything will be clearer in a month!

WUS offers today, refresh refresh 😬

We were also there today at St Paul’s and understood that the verbal reasoning contains reading comprehension. Interesting that they say their main English test is dictation, but I definitely heard them bundle comprehension with the reasoning tests… or has this 7+ stuff driven me mad?

They also said the maths test has 3 sections: I’ve forgotten what the first section was (does anyone else remember?), 2nd section is number sum type calculations, 3rd section is word based problem solving.

@Fullmoon99 I was just reading last years thread and it seems that the reading comprehension was part of the NVR section, which I found odd. One things for sure, it's part of reasoning it seems.

Good luck all!

user14809753 · 11/11/2024 11:03

They probably want to adjust reading ability based on age, which makes sense!

Nothing for us from WUS yet

Choberia · 11/11/2024 16:31

Just received the email. It’s a reserve list spot for DS.

daddy888 · 11/11/2024 17:15

Unfortunately it’s a no for us. Congrats to those who made it in successfully.

Caps0218 · 11/11/2024 18:05

@Choberia Congratulations, that’s a great achievement. Did they say how many on the list and your position?

@daddy888 sorry to hear that, best of luck with the other schools.

Reserve list for us too at WUS. Don’t know how much movement will happen at WUS

Caps0218 · 11/11/2024 18:28

Being the first school to give offers, I would assume 25 offers and 5 reserve places?

OP posts:
Choberia · 11/11/2024 18:29

@Caps0218 Thank you! Not sure, I have emailed to ask but I doubt they will answer.

Caps0218 · 11/11/2024 20:02

Just heard from 2 friends that their DS are also on the reserve list.

Does anyone know when are they going to announce the results for 8+ kings college ?
