Is there an issue with a school governor being on OnlyFans etc, beyond the icky aspect??

I found out via a quick google that the new school governor is an adult content producer. Her socials show her real name and face (as well as everything else).

Not sure if I'm being unduly prudish - it's not illegal and she obviously won't be stripping off in the governors' meetings. I suppose I question her judgement more than anything!

Ahhh it's so tricky. I can see both sides where it is her body and choice, but also, she's a school governor so it's not really appropriate.

Malificent1 · 09/11/2023 13:09

What safeguarding has been put in place to stop the older kids googling her and finding her pictures? Because they will.

Highlyflavouredgravy · 09/11/2023 13:11

Not appropriate AT ALL
I wonder if the dsl is aware!?

secondfavouritesocks · 09/11/2023 13:13

she wont have contact with children though?

MrsSchrute · 09/11/2023 13:14

I would imagine that it goes against the code of conduct that she would have had to agree to when she became a governor. I would email the Chair and let them know.

I’m a school governor and we do have contact with the children, on visits, learning walks etc. We are DBS checked. I do think this is inappropriate particularly under her real name - it is so easily searchable as the PP said.

Jackiebrambles · 09/11/2023 13:18

I mean I hope primary kids wouldn’t be looking at only fans but I’m quite shocked at this. It wouldn’t be appropriate for a teacher, and I think this is the same/similar!

Would they? I never knew my school governors when I was in school, nor their names or what they did.

I still don't know who my DS school governors are.

CatamaranViper · 09/11/2023 13:24

Just common sense of her part would tell her to not use her real name. Most teachers I know who use social media have a variation of their name (first and middle name, nickname, maiden name etc) as they don't want to be found by their students

dressedforcomfort · 09/11/2023 13:30

@secondfavouritesocks actually governors do have contact with children. When I was a governor I used to speak to groups of children about the curriculum, pastoral care, safeguarding etc. All part of getting feedback on how the school is performing.

Personally, if I were a Head or a Chair of Governors, I would not be happy. Not because I think this person poses a direct threat to kids safety, but because anyone working in a school has the responsibility to act as an appropriate role model for the kids.

BoleynMemories13 · 09/11/2023 16:22

Definitely not appropriate for someone associated with a primary school and I would definitely report it.

However, I had to laugh at the "I found out through a quick Google' part. That doesn't exactly reflect well on you either so you might want to think carefully how you explain how you became aware of this. Obviously nothing wrong with a parent looking at that stuff in their own time, but not something I would want to admit to personally!

Ha, it was nothing nefarious, she is literally so discoverable that when I typed ' "[full name]" [name of county]' her Reddit came up as the first result (which links to her other socials) with porn words in the search result intro. One more click and you are treated to nude pics.

Teachers have been struck off for "bringing the profession into disrepute" for less.

TheColour · 09/11/2023 16:48

Just to make clear (though I know that's not what pp is saying) that this lady is a parent governor and not employed by the school in any capacity

Which social media platforms are suddenly allowing graphic adult content with no filters, age verification or paywall? 🤔 Because that would be illegal.

Reddit is hosting the nude stuff. The other ones are (pretty) suggestive rather than showing actual body parts

ETA that people have a lot of inventive ways of getting round Tik Tok filters etc

TeachesOfPeaches · 09/11/2023 16:54

@MakeTeaNotLove twitter has explicit content for free with no paywall. Not illegal.

Echobelly · 09/11/2023 16:55

Have you ever heard of kids googling their school governors? Or even knowing who they are?

EyeScroll · 09/11/2023 17:11

Porn stars holding teachers to account. Not a surprising plot twist for 2023.

tennissquare · 09/11/2023 17:14

All school governors should have a basic dbs check and a Section 28 check. They should also agree to the 7 Nolan principles of public life. I'm trying to work out where an Only Fans account falls in the principles, between openness and leadership??
I'm guessing she isn't a parent Governor?

tennissquare · 09/11/2023 17:16

If she is a parent Governor she could have been the only candidate so automatically elected once she had a dbs etc.

secondfavouritesocks · 09/11/2023 17:36

well, if she is a parent governor, she has presumably been voted in, and nothing can be done about that

Cincinnatus · 09/11/2023 17:39

She has questionable judgement and morals. I wouldn’t want her having the ability to make decisions in my school considering she is happy to sell her tuna canoe for a few quid.

DBS is current criminal records check and getting your bits out on Only Fans is not illegal.

I would imagine though it would fail all sorts of "fit and proper person" checks. Also if she is a parent governor, just wait until the kids start Googling her too.

Just yuk. Definitely tell the Head or whoever appoints/leads the governors.

Surely it can, if it turns out she's not considered an appropriate candidate according to the Nolan Principles or based on her Declaration of Interest form? (The latter should be available online, OP, on the school's site.)
