Acksherly.... the poems my dd's school did weren't those fill in the gaps ones, they were real poems. But this was when they were about 7 years old......and only 4 were chosen from her whole year group's entries....

Don't want to put a dampener on this but at our school we entered a poetry competition last year.
Then 1 boy came in and said his poem was going to be published! Bit of a surprise and he got a special award in assembly.
Next day, 90% of the children who entered got a similar letter.
The parents could buy the book for £13.99.

Not that I'm saying the poems didn't all deserve to be published but.....

my ds had similar thing. was extremely proud but we did have to buy the book as well.

just be proud for her, marvellous achievement.

She is a very lucky girl to have a mum who is so proud of her and chuffed to bits for her achievements. With this kind of encouragement who knows where her literary career may take her.

Filling in gaps today, Poet Laureate tomorrow!!

Even Wordsworth and Shakespeare had to start somewhere.

Well done your DD but do have to say that every 4-year-old in the country is going to get one of these sooner or later. Still, it's not entirely a bad thing if it encourages DCs to read and write for the fun of it.
