7+ exams 2024

Anyone else prepping for the 7+ this year? We are trying to work out how many schools to do exams for. Live in SW London and thinking about SPJS, KCS, WUS and Latymer. Seems like a lot for a 6yo but my understanding is it's best to do a few as their performance on the day May really vary at that age.
What resources are everyone using?

Same here, maths was hard and DS said there was no separate comprehension section. They twisted the format. Not much hope either.

@ash90603 plz do share the link or new threads name

My DS wouldn't talk about it other than that it was hard.. I didn't push for details.. :-(

Caps0218 · 25/11/2023 21:53

It’s going to have been hard for everyone….its not about getting a particular mark, its about being in the top 100.

moeyland · 25/11/2023 22:31

Marks do matter, the higher the marks, the more likely DS is going to succeed in the second round.

Agreed, but seems like it was hard for many….so probably lower marks all round.

Curious if there is a rank for the top 3? Are they equally good?

All 3 are good, however St Paul’s and Westminster are the more well known and sought after.

sherry778 · 25/11/2023 22:47

Thank you for replying. I think Westminster will test again when the boys go to 13+ school which is pretty scary... St Paul's is always relatively harder in their papers....

It's 11 they will have the test again Confused which one out of the three you are sitting is your DS' desire school?

sherry778 · 25/11/2023 23:03

My son doesn't have many ideas...he thinks whichever gives offer is ok to him. I prefer St Paul's but their tests are so hard and I don't think my son can manage to pass the first round...

What is the format and how has it twisted this year? My DS will sit for 8+ instead, but wonder if the format will change like the 7+ this year.

Caps0218 · 26/11/2023 09:58

It’s so annoying they don’t have past papers. The maths is easy and everyone can prepare all the calcs. The differentiating factor is the problem solving maths questions, which involve understanding the questions and then doing a number of calcs for an answer.

Heyy.. tried but couldnt start the new thread 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️ would you mind starting a new thread

Razzmata · 26/11/2023 13:27

@ash90603 done! Tagged u there.

Razzmata · 26/11/2023 13:27

@ash90603 thread title is private exams - lessons learnt

I thought tutors weren't allowed to advertise?

I thought tutors weren't allowed to advertise?

Top tutors never advertise, they are found through word of mouth. 7+ exam tutors are about teaching how to do well in the exam, not about teaching the calculations, parents can teach that, it’s about their knowledge about the exam and how to have the edge.

Linda20019 · 26/11/2023 17:04

Thank you. Yes, I know that. I just assumed tutors were not supposed to advertise on here as it breaks the rules. I had a recommendation for a tutor we used for our DS but didn't post it in the thread as thought it would break a rule?

Thanks

Tipsyandtom123 · 27/11/2023 07:18

I was told there were only 12 maths questions which worth 29 marks.

Razzmata · 27/11/2023 07:29

@Linda20019 il say this straight, no matter how much I've requested, no one has shared a single tutor contact. U would expect that of parents preparing for exams but no one wants to help in that dept, even after being in the clear and done with 11+.

Very sad..

@Tipsyandtom123 Was this for SPJS on Saturday?

Tipsyandtom123 · 27/11/2023 09:31

Yes. I’m guessing the second round will be focusing on maths.

Caps1974 · 27/11/2023 09:41

@Tipsyandtom123 Thank you, I would assume most were problem solving Maths questions....they say on their website that children need to be at Year 2 level, but I doubt it's calculations, more like problems with 2 calcs needed to get the answer.
