"Separate" - the only word I remember from 6 years of primary spelling lists - what's yours?

I still have to look up "separately" though.

In my defence I left primary school 40 years ago.

We did the usual, spelling given on Mondays, writing a sentence for each word, learn the words, tested on Friday, it feels like I should have learnt more. I remember some of the words that were on the lists I learnt, but not how to spell them

My sons didn't learn spellling lists, their spelling better than mine.

Its a bit sad all that work didn't lead to better spelling for me

Necessary

Yes, it is necessary to wear one collar and two shoes. Occasionally, you can wear two collars and one shoe.

They might have updated that one since we were taught it. They could change collar to coat, perhaps?

Bloody 'judgement' since the teacher insisted it had to be 'judgment' and made me write it out 50 times at break. Still FUMING 43 years later 😤.

Genie. The one word I got wrong in the entirety of our year 3 spelling tests.

MargaretThursday · 12/01/2023 16:11

Notice. You spell it not ice.
I still say that in my head when writing it.

I worked with a senco who spent a long time trying to teach me how to spell necessary, but I always seem to remember it wrong, and end up thinking is it two sleeves and two cuffs? Or something like that

Back in the 70’s when I was a primary school the teacher would send two kids to the nearby sweet shop to buy a packet of sweets. 10/10 and you got a Spangle. One week my spellings were marked as 9/1 because apparently I had spelled “pantomime” as “dantomime”! My “p” didn’t have a long enough stalk on it. I was incensed and nearly 50 years later am still aggrieved at missing out on my prize.

shewolfsout · 12/01/2023 17:25

Beautiful
I still say it in my head as bee-aye-you-tee-ful

Mimilamore · 12/01/2023 17:26
