Do you think years 2-5 will get any time back at school this term?

Or do you definitely think it won't be until September at the earliest. Trying to support my child with ASD with some sort of expectation management....

Personally, no. But we are in one of the worst areas, our Primary has already pushed the dates back for the expected June intake and have also said they will only take Y1 and Y6. And have tried to dissuade parents.

So mine (Yr and Y3) will likely not go back til September even if I wanted them back earlier.

kitschplease · 23/05/2020 08:29

I hope so - also an ASD mum and it would be good to get a break know either way for sure.

twinnywinny14 · 23/05/2020 08:30

Unless children can return to full sized classes of 30 there is no way 4 more year groups can return- where will they go?

tiredanddangerous · 23/05/2020 08:30

I don’t think so, no. If it does happen I imagine it would be optional with most schools encouraging parents not to send their children back.

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 23/05/2020 08:30

No.

ineedaholidaynow · 23/05/2020 08:31

Some of our local schools haven’t even been able to let children in the eligible years come back as they are full (due to restricted capacity with social distancing measures) with key worker children.

Neolara · 23/05/2020 08:32

Not in my kids school

Hadenoughfornow · 23/05/2020 08:32

Our school have said they will try and get them back in for a short time.

They have a positive attitude though and are working incredibly hard to make it safe. Going above and beyond govt guidelines to keep everyone safe but being selective as well and ignoring the more ridiculous ones e g our kids are going back part time on a rota.

Bluewater1 · 23/05/2020 08:33

Yes I think there are a few variables that matter, space in the school and the availability of / or not enough staff. Also how high the rate is in the area

I'm increasingly thinking no, and am preparing mine along those lines.

GymSloth · 23/05/2020 08:35

I think they well, but part time only.

Bluewater1 · 23/05/2020 08:36

My children go to different schools. One has said they will try and get everyone back for the last month by using a part time rota system. The other one (my child with ASD's school) has not made any decisions so very up in the air ....

I had been pinning my hopes on it but our school sent email yesterday. They have more than expected key workers so at the moment they are only mentioning y1 and y6 - they start staggered through until end of June so I cannot see any other years going back. Also no after school childcare allowed that crosses year group bubbles.

happytoday73 · 23/05/2020 08:37

A local school to me isn't taking yr6.... Which I find bizarre.. So no I don't think the middle groups will get back... Unfortunately...

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 23/05/2020 08:37

Our school is a 1form entry too, so they don't have a big building. The only year group with two rooms for easy splitting is the Reception year - the one they've said they aren't taking back yet.

BillBaileysBum · 23/05/2020 08:37

No. Mine are only taking Y6 back.

reefedsail · 23/05/2020 08:38

The most it can realistically be is 2 nonconsecutive weeks, unless we can go back to class sizes of 30.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 23/05/2020 08:40

I doubt it, and also hope not as Dd has had a huge growth spurt and grown 3 inches during lockdown and I'll have to buy new shoes and uniform!

camsie · 23/05/2020 08:41

No.

slipperywhensparticus · 23/05/2020 08:42

I thought the idea was to get everyone back by the end of june?

I seem to have this idea fixed in my mind

JassyRadlett · 23/05/2020 08:43

It seems very unlikely to me. I have a Y3 who is really struggling with lockdown and is heartbroken about not being at school. Knowing we’re facing another 3 months of this, I’m really worried about his mental health.

Bluewater1 · 23/05/2020 08:43

Good point HP
What are people doing about uniforms and school shoes for their children who are going back but have had a growth spurt?

OP posts:
Bluewater1 · 23/05/2020 08:45

Yes @slipperywhensparticus
One of our Head teacher letters said that the guidance is everyone should be offered a month so she is working on the date of 22nd June

girlsyearapart · 23/05/2020 08:45

Our school is planning on taking years 2-5 back every other week for four days a week from mid June

Hadenoughfornow · 23/05/2020 08:46

Slippery govt wants all primary school kids to be back for a month. Its not realistic though.
