Do you think years 2-5 will get any time back at school this term?

Or do you definitely think it won't be until September at the earliest. Trying to support my child with ASD with some sort of expectation management....

Yes I just cannot see how they will get them back in given the 15 max bubble....

No. Ours have already said they won't be taking any one apart from R, 1 and 6 and they will close a week earlier than normal to sort out transition issues.

Bluewater1 · 23/05/2020 09:29

I am wondering about potentially asking school for a place even if it was just for a couple of weeks. My DC with ASD will just struggle to go from March to September without school, it will be very difficult to then return them to school. It has taken two months to begin to settle them into the current routine and it's been unbelievably stressful for all of us. I just think even two weeks at school will help to transition them back in after summer.... But it feels less and less likely

Our school isn't taking any back and is only opening the classrooms for the critical workers children and vulnerable children that were already attending.

Going by the heads risk assessment and attitude I'm starting to panic that they wont even go back in September.

Looneytune253 · 23/05/2020 09:31

Does your child have an ehcp? Get them a place due to that now as they're struggling. That's what it's there for

superram · 23/05/2020 09:32

No, not a chance.

IndieTara · 23/05/2020 09:33

Our school are opening in June only for the KS1 stages the Govt stipulated.
They don't have a workable plan for Yr6

toinfinityandlockdown · 23/05/2020 09:39

Mine are getting 2 days a week but not from 1st June..later starting date.

toinfinityandlockdown · 23/05/2020 09:40

Head says aim is for end of June.

milkysmum · 23/05/2020 09:41

It's not looking at all likely. Mine are in year 6 and 3 but have been in throughout using keyworker provision.
The school plans to have year 6, R and 1 back also from 8th June but now the hours I have previously had will be cut dramatically due to the bubbles as there will be no breakfast or after school club for anyone and the school will close on a Wednesday at 1pm for deep cleaning. The school can only accommodate a maximum of 45 children so if there are more than this that want to return from the eligible year groups + keyworkers then a Rota system will need to be adopted. No way could year groups 2-5 fit in as well unless they change the social distancing rules.

Bluewater1 · 23/05/2020 09:43

No, no EHCP. We were just considering if we should apply for an assessment when all of this happened

Scruffyoak · 23/05/2020 09:43

No.

pinkpixie83 · 23/05/2020 09:48

I have a yr3 and yr5 I've heard nothing from our school about the plans.

Did see the email regarding the reception and yr1 thanks to a friend but I just can't see how it will be possible.

As far as I can see it's going to make my life harder not easier if they actually go back. Plus my yr7 won't find it easy her brothers being back and not her.

Shitfuckoh · 23/05/2020 09:50

2 children in 2 different schools here.
1 is Year1, so technically could go back in June (I've opted to keep him home) - school offering 1 day a week, possibly rising at a later date if safety and staffing allow.. No plans for them to bring back Years 2-5 yet!

Other child, year 4, ASD specialist school. School contacted yesterday to say they're opening up for more keyworker children & vulnerable children but even these places are limited and parents of children who will be offered a place will be contacted next week - not my child. So I'm guessing (I was already more towards keeping him home til Sept anyway) it's September return. How that'll be different to now remains to be seen.

AJPTaylor · 23/05/2020 09:52

In your shoes why not ask?
Tbh it's only 6 weeks or so from the summer hols so I can't see any chance but if you don't ask you will never know.

Shitfuckoh · 23/05/2020 09:53

Oops. That was supposed to say 'Possibly rising to 2 a week'.

& Specialist school planning offering extra spaces to Keyworker & Vulnerable from 8th June.

cocktailoclock · 23/05/2020 10:05

@Squigglypig2 Agree with you. Year 2 and 4 here and our school has been so poor in years that supposed to go back. They did a survey on thurs and no plan for those years at all has been published at all. Have no confidence for the other years at all l.
Also in London - one of the most effected boroughs - many many people will have had it. We had it just after lockdown and well over the London average of 17%. It just seems like my kids have been forgotten

justanotherneighinparadise · 23/05/2020 10:09

I can’t see how. The letter from the board of trustees at my sons primary have already made it very clear they are going to struggle to fit the year groups the government have stipulated back and are prioritising the current key worker children. So I take from that the likelihood of any other year groups coming back before September is precisely zero.

onemouseplace · 23/05/2020 10:21

I doubt it here as well. Our school is only taking key worker children and Year 1, and not even from 1 June. I doubt even EYFS and Yr 6 will be back before the end of term.

Given that is all they are taking back so far - how on earth are they going to get the whole school back in any sort of form even by September?

cocktailoclock · 23/05/2020 10:29

I am also really worried that unless they try with other years - September isn't going to happen and then we get in to really properly impacting children's education and livelihoods

Sameold2020 · 23/05/2020 10:45

After receiving the school's letter yesterday, it has got me really worried for September. I just can't see even that happening.

Bluewater1 · 23/05/2020 11:06

Thanks so much for your replies everyone. I think it is highly unlikely then that 2-5 will be returning unless (not expecting this) the government changes their stance in social distancing in schools.

I'm starting to wonder what September will even look like now.....

Our head says no. I personally think they would be better of having all the kids in part time than only 3 year groups full time, especially yr 5.

toinfinityandlockdown · 23/05/2020 11:29

^ this is what our school are doing. R, 1 & 6 are also only doing 2 days.

Zodlebud · 23/05/2020 11:42

The parents at our school were surveyed and only about 50% of them are sending their children back which has helped enormously. We are also terribly lucky in that nursery, reception and Y1 are in their own building with a walled playground with “zones” already built into it as well as access to a small field and woodland so they can be contained. Which leaves the rest of the school for free for Y6 and eventually the other years.

The school my friend works at is in an old cramped Victorian building with a very small playground. They have up to 80% of parents saying they want their children to go back. It’s just impossible with the facilities they have.
