Do you think years 2-5 will get any time back at school this term?

Or do you definitely think it won't be until September at the earliest. Trying to support my child with ASD with some sort of expectation management....

Not unless all children are part time or we move back to completely normal school of 30+ in every room.
We have nursery, reception, year 1 and year 6 coming back in classes of 15 (plus a couple possibly in 16 as we have several classes of 33/34 usually) and every room in school is being used including the library and hall.
We have had a higher than national percentage of key work children in, so added to the vulnerable pupils we take four classrooms for that.
Outside lunchbreak play will need three and half hours with two bubbles in the small playground at the same time.
So if everyone comes back it will only be possible if we scrap bubbles or everyone gets a couple of days a week.

My hope for London is the rate will fall so dramatically that keeping schools off will feel ridiculous
I'm not hopeful but they do need to plan now for sept - our local authority do nothing from 15 July

Sunflowers2020 · 23/05/2020 12:41

Are you serious? The decision to send Y2, 3, 4 and 5 back has nothing to do with schools. It is the governments decision. The school has no control over this.

TollyMoby · 23/05/2020 12:53

I am also wondering about September and how it will look at school 😬

hippospot · 23/05/2020 13:33

We haven't been given a date for years 2-5 but I'm hoping mid-June.

Reception, Yr1 and Yr6 going back on 1 June - I will be interested to see what the attendance is.

The school plans to have half the class in mornings, half in the afternoons. Children can wear own clothes. They must bring own pencil case so no sharing of equipment. Bring own hand sanitiser. Lots of outdoor PE apparently.

I feel the Head is being very pragmatic and it all seems well thought out. My child's class teacher sounds positive too. I know some members of staff have chosen not to go back yet and the Head has made other arrangements for cover.

The government have told schools not to do part time learning or half days so there are a lot of schools breaking the guidance.

The other years won't come back unless the bubble system is dropped.

whitesoxx · 23/05/2020 13:53

Our school have confirmed that only year 6 will return mid June and only for 3 weeks.

bombaychef · 23/05/2020 15:06

Can't see it for ours

Yurona · 23/05/2020 15:56

Depends on your school. Ours will take all yeargroups back As soon as allowed (highly unusual building that is basically built for keeping groups apart, and small classes anyway)

megladon2020 · 23/05/2020 17:54

My dc school sent a letter saying R , Yr1 and Y6 will be back 8th June but stressed it was unlike the remains school years would be back until September.

Shitfuckoh · 23/05/2020 19:31

I'm wondering about September too - I know it's a long time away and lots of things will change between now & then but based on what the schools have said about how things need to be like now, I have no idea how all children will return back full time in September - unless of course social distancing is no longer a thing.

AuditAngel · 23/05/2020 19:46

Our school originally only admitted kids with both parents critical workers, unless single parent family with parent a critical worker.

Now they have expanded to either parent a critical worker, and they have no room to take any other children, so not even Reception, Yr 1 or Yr 6.

They are doing full school days.

I cannot see my Yr 4 back in September.

Our school are not having uniform so they have clean every day, no changing for PE, trainers and clothes to move in.

cabbageking · 24/05/2020 20:53

The option has not been raised. We are full with two years and key workers and can not take any more. Unless it is safe to take 30 in a group we won't take any more years back this term or September. Another school might be able to manage some more children. No one can say.

justanotherneighinparadise · 24/05/2020 20:55

How on Earth are people going to cope if the schools dont take the kids back in September? Honestly they will have to. Our kids need an education FFS!!

FourTeaFallOut · 24/05/2020 20:58

Not in our school, which is only inviting the y6s in July and do not believe that all those who want to attend will be able to as they expect to hit capacity at that point. I suppose the unions could decide that they don't give a fuck about social distancing after-all and everyone in the school could go back but it's a long shot.

Qasd · 25/05/2020 10:51

Not at our school as they are not letting years reception, one and six back. Other schools who are managing those years may be able to offer something though think it will be a bit school by school

blue25 · 25/05/2020 10:53

No, September at the earliest.

JassyRadlett · 25/05/2020 11:00

The piecemeal approach by different schools will make a bad situation worse and exacerbate gaps between children who are getting some teaching and social contact and those who have none.

user1000000000000000001 · 25/05/2020 11:26

My DDs school aren't taking reception, yesr 1 or 6 let alone the other years. They have massively expanded those in under key worker/vulnerable children so have about 160 out of 600 in. 16 bubbles of no more than 10. Key worker and vulnerable are still absolute priority. Can't see how they will even get reception/year 1/6 in before summer

Italiandreams · 25/05/2020 15:07

The thing is all schools have different buildings / amount of staff available/ number of key worker’s children/ children coming back. Of course it will look different everywhere. Unless they change the current guidance ( which they could do ) I can’t see how anyone else can return.

lockdownstress · 25/05/2020 20:50

Independent schools break up first week of July so it'll be a bit pointless unless done very soon
