Do you think years 2-5 will get any time back at school this term?

Or do you definitely think it won't be until September at the earliest. Trying to support my child with ASD with some sort of expectation management....

I really hope so but I don’t see how it’s possible unless all of the guidelines they’ve given for the return of the other years are deemed no longer necessary.

Hadenoughfornow · 23/05/2020 08:48

I think many schools may not enforce uniform. Schools clothes need to be washed at the end of each day and many people won't have enough uniform for this. Wearing own clothes makes this easier.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 23/05/2020 08:48

What are people doing about uniforms and school shoes for their children who are going back but have had a growth spurt?

If mine go back before September they will be wearing their own clothes. Whatever I bought them for around 3 weeks use wouldn't fit come September.

Bluewater1 · 23/05/2020 08:50

We've been told keyworker children no uniform , all other children (Yr R/1/6) wear uniform...

I think my school are really aiming to they have said they are.I really hope they do!

Spillinteas · 23/05/2020 08:54

Ours are wearing PE kits

girlsyearapart · 23/05/2020 08:56

Ours have to wear clean uniform or pe kit every day or clothes as close to uniform colours

CurlyEndive · 23/05/2020 08:56

Our local school are planning to have them back in July (part time).

sydenhamhiller · 23/05/2020 08:56

No.
There’s not term to go, just a half term, and most schools (including mine) will be staggering the start dates. We are starting with small groups of y6 and y1, then reception.

We still have key workers’/ vulnerable children coming in, as they have over the whole lockdown and Easter holidays. With the current guidelines on social distancing, with our little Victorian era classrooms we have 8-10 children per bubble, with a teacher and TA. We have no spare classrooms or teaching staff, as some of them are still high-risk/shielding.

It’s a really difficult time - I have a year 3 child too (and a y9 and a y11 who is worried about results and 6th form) - and I am relieved it is half term next week so there’s no home school pressure. And I will be going in to school for the key workers’ children coming in.

Next half term is a long one - 7 weeks- but not 3 months. Hopefully by the summer holidays social restrictions will have been relaxed even more and the children can see their friends.

I hope so my son is yr 2 in an infant school so moving to a new school in September and it would be lovely, even for a week or two, to finish his time at his lovely infant school. School have not made any noise in this direction though and are looking to take some children back no earlier than 8th June from yr 1 and R.

CurlyEndive · 23/05/2020 08:57

They've said no uniforms too.

skankingpiglet · 23/05/2020 08:57

I don't expect they will. The Government's language sounds like they would like it to happen, but our school (after saying a week ago that children in Preschool, Y1, Y2, Y6 would be in FT) emailed yesterday to say only Yr1 will be back initially, for only 12hrs/wk and not starting until the 8th. The other years will have a phased return, but no timetable for this has been provided. It sounds like they may not even manage to get this first group of children back before the holidays, let alone other years.

Bridecilla · 23/05/2020 08:59

No. We're in this much longer term. I work in FE. Our big boss said she'd be shocked if we were doing full time face to face delivery even in September

ElizabethMainwaring · 23/05/2020 09:03

Not a chance.

Katjolo · 23/05/2020 09:04

No. OP could your child not go back anyway due to SEND needs?

DippyAvocado · 23/05/2020 09:06

I dont think so, not if they've insisted on full time in split classes for the other year groups. We've made provision for just year R for a couple of week, plus around 20 key worker/vulnerable kids (we have been providing key worker care at a hub so far, so just moving them back to our own building). Once we've seen how that works for a couple of weeks, we plan to have Year 1, then eventually Year 6 depending on space/staffing. We couldn't have all year groups back unless they were in their normal cohorts or went onto a part-time rota.

Squigglypig2 · 23/05/2020 09:07

Our school has said year 6 only from June 1st. My daughter is in year 4 and I feel very sad for her and her friends and pissed off with the school, it's a big site for a state school and if they could be arsed to do some planning they would easily be able to implement social bubbles. I think they are pandering to the hysteria. We're in London and the r rate is very low and about 50%of people I know think they had the virus just before or after lockdown.

My concern is if they don't get on with it then there's no way they will be able to get back to more normal teaching in September and then when does it end. 6 months is a really long time in any child's development.

skankingpiglet · 23/05/2020 09:08

HP we have been told ideally uniform, but if not possible then school colours.
It's shoes that are a problem for us as very few fit DC1's narrow heels and ankles, so we can't just order a pair online and assume they'll fit. In normal times, getting school shoes involves a lengthy visit to the shoe shop. She'll be going back in her trainers.

vinoandbrie · 23/05/2020 09:08

I really hope so. Our school has more than enough space to make it work.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 23/05/2020 09:08

Not unless they build a load more classrooms. The school is full with EYs, Yr1, Yr6 and Keyworkers.

I have a Yr2 and a Yr4. I'm holding out for at least part time in September. I'll consider the Yr2 having something this term a bonus.

Chanel05 · 23/05/2020 09:10

At the moment mine can only accommodate it by doing two days per week and each class split in half. I'd imagine it would have to go down to one day per week for that to happen.

ladyvimes · 23/05/2020 09:12

Absolutely not. Most schools are struggling to provide provisions for reception, year 1 and year 6. My school isn’t having year 1 back because we don not have the room or staff to do it safely.
However if your child is diagnosed with ASD then they should be classed as vulnerable and the school should be providing provision for key workers and vulnerable children. I would speak to your school.

Grasspigeons · 23/05/2020 09:14

I think the government will have all primary children back in school for 2 weeks before the end of term. I think they will gradually chip away at social distancing rules and increase bubble sizes. As the guidance stands now it is not possible but the guidance will just keep changing.

Velvian · 23/05/2020 09:16

No news from ours on when years 2to5 going back. The other 3 Yr groups are split in 2 and doing 2 days a week each with a deep clean in the middle. I don't see how the others (Inc DD & DS) will fit given the requirements.

I think the easing of the lockdown and packed beaches etc put the whole thing in doubt.

Ionacat · 23/05/2020 09:22

Yes hopefully here, I have a return date for my year 4 - towards the end of June, we are getting full details after half term of what that provision will be. (Junior school though.)
