me, ds1 will be 4 and a half.

he is pestering the life out of me over it already. We have some uniform already (including 8 pairs of trousers because he still has frequent accidents) although I do need to buy some more white polo shirts, how many do you think they need ?

prettybird · 03/08/2007 10:57

I think the porbelm with deferring in England is that they have the (crazy) system of just then putting the kids into the class that they would have been in anyway, which makes it pointless. Not only are they still the youngest on the year, but they are then doubly disavantadged by the fact that they haven't covered the curriculum and the other kids have all made friends.

The Scottish system is much more sensbel, in that dferral is a true defferal, when the child would just start P1 a year later - so would be the new kid with everyone esle, the only difference being one of the older kids rather than the youngest.

Me, ds will be 4.3 and he can't wait to go to big school, he will start on 11th Sept, 1st day til 1pm, 2nd and 3rd day til 2pm then full time from 4th day.

It will be a bittersweet time for me as while I know he loves school and will benefit loads, I will miss his company like mad, I'm so used to having him around I get bored when he's not with me

tortoise · 05/08/2007 22:02

Me tort.
DD1 will be 4.4

mrsdelboy · 05/08/2007 22:23

me too.

Dd wil be 4.8 and is doing half days for 2 weeks then full time. She is also dressing up in her uniform!

teejay · 06/08/2007 08:58

if its ok I will join to read all of your experiences,
My ds will be 4 on 30 Aug and I have deferred school until Easter- although nice to see there are a few other August babies around

deegward · 06/08/2007 09:06

ds2 starting reception in september, he was only 4 in march and although ds1 was the same age (no he wasn't he didn't start 'til the january) ds2 is my baby, can't get head around him having to wear shirt, tie and cap!

know i am going to cry buckets, ds1 goes into the Junior school the same day, and that is a big leap, long trousers not shorts! think i will need lots of tissues of 5th of Sept.

stramash · 14/08/2007 13:51

dd1 4.9 starting on Sept 4th. 8.50 til 1.30 for two weeks and then 8.50 til 3.

Will get some time with dd2 ( 2) on my two days at home from work so I can't wait. DD1 has struggled with nursery a bit (she only goes 3 mornings a week) so hope she will be OK. The thing she's most worried about is school dinners. Am trying to be bright and enthusiastic ( yet vague) about lunchtime, given that for two years of her life she ate mainly petit filous and toast.

haggisaggis · 14/08/2007 14:00

dd started today!!! Poor wee thing was in tears when she got up this morning - and didn't want to go into school.
However, she came out quite happily and says she had fun!

Gobbledigook · 14/08/2007 14:12

me GDG
Ds2, starting reception (in a yr1 mixed class) - he will be 4.10

Gobbledigook · 14/08/2007 14:15

Ds3 will start next year age 4 and a few days

I'm not delaying his entry, I don't think you can, and he will be ready

pagwatch · 14/08/2007 14:17

My daughter will already be five. Birthday is 3rd Sept and term starts 6th Sept.
DS 1 was 4 years 3 months and had to have a proper tie !
As DS2 was nearly 7 when he started I have had babe at home for 14 years. WHAT am I going to do with myself? ( yeah -really )

Gobbledigook · 14/08/2007 14:23

Oh God, I couldn't cope with the part time, starting in Jan palava. Ds2 starts full time on Sept 5th.

When ds3 starts, I think he does half days for the first week or two but that's all.

foxcub · 14/08/2007 14:31

Me sexgoddess

DD will be starting Reception in September and will be p/t until january. She's so excited.

DS1 will be starting Juniors

nutcracker · 14/08/2007 14:32

Going to get ds's shoes tommorow and all of a sudden he doesn't seem so keen, think he is getting cold feet.

If he cries , i will so be a wailing mother embarssing herself.

tiredemma · 14/08/2007 14:35

me.

My baby starts on sept 12th.

Dont want him to go.

foxcub · 14/08/2007 14:37

My DD is only just 4, so will be very young when she strats.

But her school do a fab thing, which is that they put the 20 oldest pupils together for their half days. Then they put the 10 youngest together (i.e. in a group half the size) so they benefit from a tiny class for the first term, before they all merge in January.

I remember my DS1, who was also a summer baby, really benefitted from that first term in a class of just 10

nutcracker · 14/08/2007 14:37

Mine starts on the 5th, it's not fair. The girls go back on the 4th so one day of him all to myself all day and then thats it gone forever

NAB3 · 14/08/2007 14:38

theslownorris · 14/08/2007 14:53

Me.
Dd's 2 & 3 (twins) start on 7th Sept for afternoons and then full time from Christmas. Wahey!!! (Can you tell they're not my first? )

yeahinaminute · 14/08/2007 14:56

DD 4.7 starts on 4th for 1 x week mornings, 1 x week afternoons, 1 x week mornings, 1 x week afternoons, then full school hours.

I am re-jigging work and moving my office to home so as i can be there to take her in and collect her as DH will be working away from home more and more - will I have the incentive to work though after the school run, dog walk, natter to others etc etc !!
