3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ support thread 2017

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those parents involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. Flowers

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas.

Some schools ask for nursery reports and others don't. Perhaps some nursery reports need to be taken with a grain of salt, as I would assume there'd be instances of parents exerting pressure to have the most glowing report possible on their child.. and hence some schools don't bother with them.

MrsMarigold · 31/01/2017 10:11

Anyone else heard DD got NLCS.

shopgal9 · 31/01/2017 10:15

DD has been added on to the reserve list at NLCS Sad does anyone know how their reserve lists work

shopgal9 · 31/01/2017 10:17

Congratulations mrs Marigold Smile

LilaGrace · 31/01/2017 10:20

DD got NLCS, Habs and Channing. We'll be accepting NLCS.
Reserve list places will be offered when any girls who turn down their firm offer have freed up a space. I'd call NLCS and find out where you are on the waiting list. You should know the outcome by deadline day (8 Feb) but possibly before. Good luck.

MrsMarigold · 31/01/2017 10:23

My DD didn't get Channing but she was sick during round two so it's hit and miss. Well done LilaGrace look forward to meeting you IRL.

shopgal9 · 31/01/2017 10:30

Congratulations Lilagrace thanks for the info on the reserve lists x

LilaGrace · 31/01/2017 10:32

Yes MrsMarigold- maybe see you on Friday at the new parents morning!

user1477249785 · 31/01/2017 12:00

Another one here who got wait listed. Does anyone have any sense of what the prospects are of moving off a wait list?

Congrats to all those who got offers.

LilaGrace · 31/01/2017 12:13

Depends where you are on the waitlist. Will they tell you?

user1477249785 · 31/01/2017 12:17

I haven't asked. Do you think I can/ should? I don't want to do anything at this stage to be that pushy/ annoying parent in case it jeopardizes our chances. But it would be really useful to know...

LilaGrace · 31/01/2017 12:24

I don't think that's pushy. They all know you might have other offers which you can't accept until you know about the waitlist. Is it NLCS you're waitlisted at?

Butterfly3232 · 01/02/2017 09:50

Congratulations everyone
We will be accepting Habs!
Good luck to all on the waiting list x

LilaGrace · 01/02/2017 10:22

Congrats butterfly! Was Habs your first choice? That's great news. X

Butterfly3232 · 01/02/2017 11:02

Hi lila,
The first couple of years are really important for us and I guess I am thinking more about now than the future.
I really like the focus on learning through play, forest school and reading as homework in the foundation years. The advantage of boys school and other nearby schools on the same road is important for us as we have a 2yr old son to consider.

PrepSchoolMum2017 · 01/02/2017 20:40

To those on waiting lists: there will definitely be movement. Our DD's got three offers, including NLCS (which we're not taking as it was our second choice, and DD got an offer for first choice) so at least one place will be coming up there. And I've known parents who pay deposits at a whole range of schools and don't decide until the summer term, so even if places don't come up straight after the acceptance deadline, there could still be movement. Anxiety-inducing all round, but if I was on a waitlist I would definitely call the school and ask where DD was on it. Good luck!

shopgal9 · 01/02/2017 20:44

Thanks a ton PrepSchoolMum2017 for the update just keeping for my DD as she is on reserve lists for NLCS and St. Helens congratulations to u and ur DD x

PrepSchoolMum2017 · 01/02/2017 21:44

Good luck shopgal9. Hope your DD gets a place you're really happy with.

shopgal9 · 01/02/2017 21:56

Homely1 · 01/02/2017 22:10

Good luck shopgal9 and all those on reserves. There will most definitely be places coming up... hang in there!

Congratulations to all xxx

shopgal9 · 01/02/2017 22:21

Thanks homely1

Carpediem12 · 02/02/2017 10:20

Congratulations to all of you and your little ones on securing your places. Well done !

ohgoshIdontknow · 02/02/2017 11:00

Well done all - I'll be in a similar position one day so have followed this thread with interest.

So stressful for all involved!

LilaGrace · 02/02/2017 11:22

Butterfly- sounds like Habs is perfect for you and your daughter, especially if you have a son too. My DD loved it when she went for the assessments there but I felt NLCS had the edge. The fact that the girls couldn't use the bus until year 3 at Habs was also a bit of a problem- it was quite a distance from our house (took me almost 1.5 hours to get there for the round 2 interview 😱). But we loved the forest school and all the facilities. Hope your DD is really happy.

Has anyone on waiting lists heard yet? Good luck to you all. The waiting was bad enough up to offers day, let alone longer. Let us know where you are going once you hear. X

Mummywow · 03/02/2017 17:51

Congrats to all -well done. We will be off to Channing if anybody else is let me know!
