Arlette does tutor in Golders Green. She will already probably be booked for 7+ exams in Jan 2017. Classes start this week if anything like last year. I have her e-mail and phone number so PM me if you need. She has indeed been tutoring children for some 20+ years. It is tough programme on the mothers (in particular) and the children but appears to get results. There is also an up front assessment of the child before starting

Arlette is the best, the others are just a waste of time and money

Thank you for your honesty xx

Londonuk2001 · 04/05/2022 22:17

@goodusb you! You dont need anyone. I supported my 2 kids for 7+ Exams. They both get in to the UK’s top 30 (best one in our area) secondary school.

Completely agree! Tried the other Miss mentioned here. She doesn’t even come close. Arlette definitely is very good. But her programm is strict.

Horses for courses. We tried Arlette but found her factory approach just wasn’t targeted enough to extend. Took ages to see progress. Was glad to have switched. I suppose it’s like schools - what works for one child may not for another.

I am well past this stage of education but popped on to check what’s going on and am saddened to see there continues to be this absurd obsession with tutoring 7 year olds! Let your child be what he or she is. Try to take an interest in school work and encourage completion of homework — but the 7+ exams are geared toward 7 year olds! They are not geared toward more advanced levels of study. Children who are doing well at school and showing signs of being intellectually curious will do well on the exam. Honestly, there is no reason to do special preparation. My children do zero work outside of school and zero interview prep. We wanted them to be assessed based on their capabilities not what they had been coached to perform. There are many excellent private and state primary schools. In fact, from my observations of volunteering a state schools and having my children educated at private schools, I am certain their educational attainment, certainly through age 11, would have been no different had they gone to state schools — and they are at what is considered to be one of the best schools in London.
they enjoyed their prep school, so I don’t regret it, but I am glad they were accepted without any tutoring and thus have continued their entire education without the need for a tutoring crutch. We are coming to the end now — A Levels for the oldest — so I have some perspective on the whole process. Let your children be children and let them learn and develop st their own pace!

Extremely naive and out of touch. When there are 300 applicants for 60 places, then you will understand why.

TRO2808 · 09/10/2022 23:25

We didn’t even try Arlette because for the 7+ because we didn’t like the idea of having to be assessed before being tutored. We even knew of someone who was turned away from her. We used Miss Bloomfield and she was truly spectacular for many reasons. Because of her 1:1 approach she gets to know your child and understands how to get them feeling good about themselves. She will think of new ways to teach a subject so that it can really sink in. But she really just cares about each child reaching their full potential and will strive to make sure that they see that within themselves. I also found her to be a huge support to me through this stressful process. I cannot recommend her enough!
