Hiring a nanny just for school runs (morning + afternoon)

I simply can't get the hang of morning school runs. The little one isn't that troublesome these days about getting his clothes sorted and on + shower and brushing his teeth has become a breeze. The problem is I wake up in the morning and simply can't get myself together. No number of espressos can help me and most recently I made us late by losing my phone. Where was it? In the cat food bowl when I thought I had given the cat food... Instead I gave her my phone. As a new mum I'm thinking that since our son isn't too much of a handful these days maybe getting someone in is the answer?

Does anyone else have someone to help with 9am morning school runs? How much do they help out? Do they get your little one ready too?

Everyone, I don't appreciate the mockery of the fact I don't know what to pay seeing as the other mums boast how much they afford to pay. Plus I understand this isn't a long term thing

Some people really do have more money than sense.
At your age my low blood pressure didn't prevent me from working full time and partying all weekend so I don't really buy the whole too tired to take kid to school tbh. You are so easily fatigued and yet want to fit in extra workouts? Hmmm.
Go drs, take iron tablets and go to bed earlier.

nanodragon · 07/01/2016 19:27

Of course you can get someone - we have an after school nanny only

BikeRunSki · 07/01/2016 19:28

No, give a student from Imperial College the chance to earn some decent cash!

mar46 · 07/01/2016 19:29

You could put an ad up in a college, you don't need a qualified nanny if you are there as well, sounds like more like a spare pair of hands so cost should be closer to min wage.
However you could try first

  • lay out all clothes the night before
  • set the breakfast table except for milk and butter the night before
  • have bath for children the night before. You might be surprised how much easier the morning routine becomes with this in place.

If your husband is better at waking up and surely he needs to work to afford to pay for all of this, could he not drop the older child at school in his way to work. Or pay for private school with earlier hours so he can drop off and get to work in time.

until our little one is old enough to get taken with some other parents or until I sort out my sleeping habits or once he can get himself ready and I just drive.

Shock. I just love this. So once your DC is older, you'll sack off the nanny and ask some other parents to take your child to school....for free presumably? And, as you can't get your bum out if bed, you'll be offering no reciprocal childcare?

I would so love to see how that conversation goes!

How the other half live Smile

I used to enjoy the walk to school with my children. Its a great chance to chat.

Hmm

Jesus Christ. Biscuit

I cherish the 2 mornings a week I can get up at 7.30 instead of the usual 6.15 and can walk DS to school. So does he. And yes, I have a younger child.

sugar21 · 07/01/2016 19:42

Can I apply for the job?

Woodley: I appreciate your suggestions but he works from home 12:30-10:00pm and doesn't drive.

I really appreciate all the suggestions about finding some Imperial students, most of my friends just graduated from there so I'm sure they can give some suggestions as to whom I should be looking for!

SK, my DD goes to a private central London prep school and I've never heard any of the parents boast about how much they pay their "help"

Additionally, most of the mothers or fathers do school drop off. It's a special time to spend with a young child. Encouraging them and just chatting about their upcoming day.

I'm sorry, but in my opinion, you won't endear yourself to the other parents, if they find out you don't do drop off, because you can't get out of bed.

I'm glad your husband is supportive as you sound like you need some hand holding. Are you ok following the birth of your youngest child? Is there more to not getting out of bed than just tiredness?

Artandco · 07/01/2016 19:46

How far away is the school?

We live in the approximate same area and there's lots of schools state and private within a walk or easy bus journey

maybebabybee · 07/01/2016 19:46

If your DH doesn't start work til 1230 why can he not take them Confused

RiverTam · 07/01/2016 19:46

Hold on. Pre-DC you wouldn't get up until 11-1? Err, weren't you meant to be at school? Abd how can you have had 2 children and still be unable to function in the morning?

I'm afraid I'm rather sceptical of this too.

Artandco · 07/01/2016 19:49

I don't understand either. Your Dh is home, finished from work by 10pm so can go to bed before midnight and get up in the morning like most people.

Dh isn't home until 11pm tonight from business trip, he will still have to be up and sorting kids in the morning as I have to leave by 6am for early meeting myself tomorrow.

SKLily · 07/01/2016 19:49

Also, I'm not sure why some people are comparing me to themselves? We are different people with different lifestyles and requirements. I don't see why this is so unbelievable to some? I was just looking for anyone with experience in a situation like this and could offer suggestions (which to be fair I got some that sound great). I swear if I told you more about myself you'd have a heart attack since its so unbelievable

maybebabybee · 07/01/2016 19:50

Why don't you get a magic unicorn to take your DC to school OP? Or use a teleporter?
