3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ support thread 2015

I started the below thread last year and have had so many people find it useful I thought it might be worth doing it again.

I have had a number of messages asking if I have any spaces in my classes. I'm really sorry but I have been at full capacity for some time now.

However, I do appreciate that this is a very stressful time of year for parents who have children sitting these private school assessments in January. So, I'm hoping that by setting up this support group thread I can help by answering some questions you have about these assessments.

Hopefully this thread will also contain some useful insight from the experiences of parents who have already been through the process.

Dadap, the latter - after input on punctuation (not necessarily directly before the dictation).

Has anyone heard from LEH yet?

Greenfizzywater · 13/01/2015 14:53

Pendleburymum from what I remember 2 years ago Channing came out late, same time as Habs, it was an email if you got called back and a letter if "thanks but no thanks"

BetterDay · 13/01/2015 19:23

Habs. 4+ letters are in the post. Should arrive either tomorrow or Thursday. If you've not heard by Thursday's post, you're advised to call them.

Pendleburymum · 13/01/2015 19:33

Thanks Greenfizzywater - we got the email this afternoon for a second round assessment which was lovely news.

dadap · 13/01/2015 20:14

Thank you betterday

mumteacher · 13/01/2015 23:55

Examnewbie I wasn't aware that Habs round 2 results were out yet.

I haven't heard from anyone re. emails (Habs. 4+) but have heard of some letters having been received yesterday.

mumteacher · 14/01/2015 08:04

OP posts:
mumteacher · 14/01/2015 08:06

2 of my students received emails yesterday from Habs.

betterworld · 14/01/2015 08:24

Hi mumteacher are you talking about Habs 4+ or 7+? Please let me know.

mumteacher · 14/01/2015 11:47

4+

Your students who reviewed letters are they invited back for round2?

Just trying to figure out if the positives are emailed and 'no' is a letter.

Hi mumteacher I do not know if you saw my post above or not? I would still be interested to know what round 2 of habs 7+ for boys covers? I was just wondering as have no idea. Thank you.

mumteacher · 14/01/2015 21:59

I did examnewbie I asked you yesterday if you had heard from the school.

I take it you've heard today and have been invited back for round 2?

examnewbie · 14/01/2015 22:05

Sorry I did not see your reply. No it is for a friend who asked me - I have no idea so said I would ask on here for her. No idea if she has heard yet I just know she was hoping to get to 2nd round. :)

mumteacher · 15/01/2015 14:40

7+ Hab boys results were out yesterday so your friend should know either way.
Keep us posted x

Mumteacher what will they ask in Habs boys 2nd round 7+?

betterworld · 15/01/2015 20:31

mumteacher (or anybody else who might know) what will the children do at Habs second round? Nobody seems to know or want to share the info...thanks!

BetterDay · 15/01/2015 21:02

Habs. seemed to have changed things a little this year, from what I understand - so there's no predictable answer to what they'll exoect tomorrow. Unless Mumteacher works there, shell not know either.

betterworld · 15/01/2015 21:12

Thanks betterday. Indeed the first round was also a bit of a surprise. Good that they change the format so that tutored children lose the advantage and all children are on a level playing field.

BetterDay · 15/01/2015 21:32

Absolutely. Futile exercise otherwise. Schools are too wise to tutors to continue with stagnant assessment formats. They also adapt their procedures according to the weaknesses in the cohorts that have previously been accepted.
I honestly don't believe that a child of 4+ or even 7+ can pass the most highly selective assessments on the back of a good tutor, anyway. So much rests upon aspects of development and inate potential that a tutor has no influence over. All they can do is ensure that a child is as close to their individual potential as they can be. Some tutors assess before accepting children to be tutored. It's laughably all about their numbers and reputations vs getting each individual to reach their potential and sharing honestly with the parents.
Good luck, Betterworld.

mumteacher · 15/01/2015 22:28

Better world are you sitting 4+ or 7+?
If 7+ boy or girls?

BetterDay · 15/01/2015 22:40

Good luck to those sitting the second round at NLCS, tomorrow!

mumteacher · 15/01/2015 22:46

The changes at Habs are due to structural differences at senior management level nothing really to with tutored children.

Better world if your so against tutoring why are you here asking for info from a tutor? Would you not brush off the cobwebs from 'The Hungry caterpillar' book if I said there was a discussion about butterfly life cycles to be had?!

It's easy to judge but when it's so competitive you want to leave no stone unturned.

It's at times like these that I find myself questioning why I start these threads, but like I say every time mine is not to judge or question your rhyme or reason, and to that end, betterworld contrary to what might be believed, I have some information, so if you don't mind being assisted by a tutor, let me know what age group your sitting assessments for I'll try and help.
