I started the below thread last year and have had so many people find it useful I thought it might be worth doing it again.

I have had a number of messages asking if I have any spaces in my classes. I'm really sorry but I have been at full capacity for some time now.

However, I do appreciate that this is a very stressful time of year for parents who have children sitting these private school assessments in January. So, I'm hoping that by setting up this support group thread I can help by answering some questions you have about these assessments.

Hopefully this thread will also contain some useful insight from the experiences of parents who have already been through the process.

250+ kids for KCJS if I remember correctly.

Thebridekiddo - I know many kids who got in over the last few years who didn't do the the 8-9 bond books. If your kid is top of the class, my guess is he's a perfect candidate and has as good a chance as any. Good luck.

Thebridekiddo · 09/01/2015 13:41

Thank you for the re-assurance.

I can't wait for it to be over!

mumofthreegoingmad · 09/01/2015 14:50

Has anyone heard back from habs 4plus? My lo sat on thurs so just wondering if they will send all results together or a few at a time. Thanks

Newrule · 09/01/2015 16:35

Fingers crossed for all of you. It must be torture waiting and I hope the wait is not too long.

Greenfizzywater · 09/01/2015 16:50

Habs make parents wait ages for 4 and 5+ and sends them in dribs and drabs I'm afraid.

kcw23 · 09/01/2015 16:53

I've promised my DS a movie (with popcorn of course) at cineworld after kcjs tmrw. Just want this whole thing to get over irrespective of the outcome.

shoutymcshoutsmum · 09/01/2015 17:49

My DH asked DS what he wanted if he tried his best at the KCJS assessment tomorrow. My DS has asked for a Krispy Kreme!

mumteacher · 09/01/2015 18:07

Congratulations to all those through to round 2 at Nlcs

I know how this is going to sound, but here it comes : what time KCJS expecting boys to be there for 7+ and also pencil/ruler etc will be supplied by them?

PS: I've misplaced the letter from school.

Thebridekiddo · 09/01/2015 20:51

Be there for 9:00. No pencils needed. Bring a snack in a container with a drink.

Collection is at 12:00 although they could finish earlier.

Best of luck.

wandymum · 09/01/2015 21:03

My DS is in for KCJS tomorrow too. Not massively hopeful as although he's bright we've been distracted by major building works at home so hardly done any prep with him. His main struggle is going to be concentrating for long enough to get through it all. Good luck all.

kcw23 · 09/01/2015 21:05

Thank you Thebridekiddo. See you tomorrow (if I know who you are:-)

Good luck for tomorrow.

Did anyone sit 7+ boys?

Pendleburymum · 09/01/2015 21:52

We have a second round assessment at NLCS next week (4+) - what can we expect, I understand there are some physical tasks and what else will be assessed in the 45 minutes? thankfully DD seems to enjoy the process and is oblivious to it being an assessment.

LocalEditorWandsworth · 10/01/2015 20:05

How did your boys find the KCJS test today?

My DS is being pretty tight-lipped apart from to complain that he got stuck on something in the Maths paper and that they were supposed to go outside during their break but couldn't because it rained.

Slightly daunted dropping him off to see exactly how many boys there were trying for it but at least it's over now. On to the next one!

kcw23 · 10/01/2015 20:11

I think math probably was little tricky as my DS didnt sound confident about revision.

I am happy though that he managed to complete the story...probably first time ever.

Agreed, one over, 2 more to go.....

kcw23 · 10/01/2015 20:19

Wandymum, Thebridekiddo, Shoutymcshouts

How did the morning go? Did you manage to get anything out from DS?

Thebridekiddo · 10/01/2015 21:43

So apparently there wasn't much time to go out and play.

My DS said the star fraction was hard in maths. Comprehension was a bit hard but the non verbal easy.
I have to say my DS rushes all his work and is always having a competition with himself to finish first. This leads to silly mistakes.

We've got two more this week then I'm having an indefinite break as its way to stressful for me.

I was also taken aback by the amount of boys taking the exam, it really does hit home how competitive these schools are.

mumteacher · 10/01/2015 22:57

Yes Habs hold their cards closer to their chest and historically haven't let everyone know at once. Let's hope that changes with a new head!

Last question of the comprehension was what would you do if your toy comes alive.

My DS rushes too, and always gets something wrong.

Composition was on my imaginary friend.

Whatever DS has told me so far, it sounds like he has done well. Lets see....

Neena15 · 11/01/2015 17:32

Anyone knows what sort of group activity is done for Habs girls for 7+ ?? Their assessment is on Tuesday and I have absolutely n idea about this.

Neena15 · 11/01/2015 17:37

no idea

Pendleburymum · 12/01/2015 17:12

Has anyone heard from Channing about the second round 4+ yet?

examnewbie · 12/01/2015 21:07

Hi Mumteacher do you know what round 2 of habs 7+ for boys covers? I was just wondering as have no idea. Thank you.

dadap · 12/01/2015 23:04

Hello - is anybody able to give advice on the spelling / dictation. My ds is at a state school and we can't afford a tutor so I am doing the prep myself. I am wondering
how and long roughly how many sentences is the dictation.
Do they explicitly say the grammar for example:

John walked down the stairs comma, carrying a ball comma a pencil comma a hat and a bag. He yelled open speech marks catch this closed speech marks full stop. Or is it john walked down the stairs (silent pause) carrying a ball (silent pause) a pencil (silent pause) a hat and a bag (long pause) He yelled catch this.

An the child is expected to work out from the gaps and tone of speach. I would really appreciate any advice on this area.

Thank you
