AND I've named it all!

I'm feeling slightly smug.

However, I am now going to restrict DS's food, bind him and possibly put bricks on his head for the rest of the summer.

I was going to ask on the M&S Facebook page and bit I saw that someone else had asked the same question recently and they answered that they did not have a date yet but that if you subscribed to the newsletter they would give the dates there when it was confirmed. So no confirmation that it was definitely going to happen, but we haven't missed it, anyway.

I'm going to order mind to collect from tesco at the end of this week, they have a £10 off £50 on at the min so I will use that!

headlesslambrini · 09/06/2014 20:03

PE bag, book bag, school back pack (necessary for swimming apparently) check. Hot dinners so no lunch box (hurrah). Socks no as I can't label them with my lovely stikins. How do I label a sock??

I will never be this organised again (after the novelty wears off). Cut me some slack. Grin

I don't even know what DD's uniform is yet!?! Feel like I'm going to be panic buying and she doesn't even start for 3 months.

MollyBdenum · 09/06/2014 20:30

You don't bother labelling socks.

xihha · 09/06/2014 20:43

You don't bother labelling socks.

^ that ^

no one will bother checking for a name in a stray sock.

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 10/06/2014 00:16

My mum labelled all our socks bless her. It was easier on DB's as he had the turn down sort. I won't be doing that as I am no seamstress. Nursery stuff has been marked with a mothercare laundry pen.

On that topic, do people recommend iron on labels or the sew in ones for me to pass to DM?

Nocomet · 10/06/2014 00:20

Do label expensive hockey socks. I didn't and I've got some that just don't pair. We seem to have one belling to someone's Y13 brother it's huge!

xihha · 10/06/2014 02:28

sew on, i bought iron ones and ended up having to sew them on anyway as DD kept peeling them off.

CillaBlacksOrangeBouffant · 10/06/2014 04:51

In answer to the op.

Yay! I'm happy for you

MollyBdenum · 10/06/2014 05:50

The sew in ones are better, but I have some pretty good ones at the moment that are stickers which can be stuck on the label of the clothes, and on lunchboxes, shoes etc which makes everything very easy to do.

Mine were from mynametags.com and can be personalised with a coloured background and picture which makes it easier to recognise whose stuff is whose.

I got mine printed with my mobile number on as well as my child's name, and sick it on favourite toys etc in case they get lost, and it means that a lost child just needs to look in their shoe for my number.

Purpleroxy · 10/06/2014 09:38

You just need to be careful waiting if your school has uniform that isn't "basic". Eg you can buy a plain white polo or white shirt in any size, any time of year. You can buy short grey socks easily. But if you need something like a navy pinafore for eg or particularly big or small sizes, it's best to try and get things early IMO.

Michaelahpurple · 10/06/2014 09:41

I tried to get going and M&S are out stock of a trouser, sports short and some grey shorts I wanted. (Online). Boring! It should be perfectly possible to leave it to late August but I have been caught twice Peter jones being out of such abstruse items as plain white shirts. Astonishing!

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 10/06/2014 09:52

We had to go here for dd's uniform and it was a nightmare stevensons.co.uk/ thankfully she's been there a year now and so I don't need full uniform, just a few bits and pieces that she's outgrown and then shoes.

Ds2 is easy as its john lewis and then plain white or grey shirts and grey trousers.

its the pe kits that are killers at senior school. I always feel sorry for ds2 biking to school on pe days weighed down with two rucksacks.

oh and I label socks, I fold over the sew in name tag and then sew iton to the edge of the sock. we did have some iron on ones especially for socks but they wash off after a while. sew on is definitely the better option.

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 10/06/2014 10:11

MollyBdenum - those personalised stickers look fab. DD would love them. Do the sticky ones really stay on clothes or is it better to get a set of iron ons for clothes and sticky ones for shoes/toys etc?

MollyBdenum · 10/06/2014 10:49

The sticky ones have stayed on for a year without problems. The only problem is that some things don't have a convenient label to stick the sticker onto. It's also quite nice to have sew-on ones to make a hanging loop on jumpers and cardigans as they end up on pegs half the time.

My DD started school last year and I had everything by June as well. Nothing wrong in buying early, all this growth spurt nonsense, you know your child and how fast they grow etc so you can be the judge on the size you by. Must admit I left the labels till the week before and that was stressfull.

Kveta · 17/06/2014 16:44

I've been looking for stuff for weeks, and nowhere local has reception aged stuff in stock! Just the white polo shirts/grey trousers/grey socks - he has jumpers from nursery which will still fit. Hoping we can find the basics soon, or he'll be in his nursery stuff (which is the same uniform, except the socks), and as he has already outgrown the trousers, I dread to think what they will look like in 2 months :o

Janek · 17/06/2014 16:53

M and currently have 20% off school uniform, for those who were wondering when...
