Hi there, just wondering where to start. we are moving from ireland to the gwyned area and don't know where to start! No welsh whatsoever. Where is a good place to live there? We need good facilities such as tennis and shops within walking distance for our children.

Would anyone know anything about Glasinfryn? Would it be a nice place to live? thinking it might be cheaper than Bangor.

Glasinfryn is nice evbev, lovely cycle track nearby, easy access to A55, not to far from Bangor. In catchment area for frairs secondary school and you would get a wide choice of primary schools to pick from. Not anything there in terms of a shop though I don't think. Caerhun and Minfordd are also nice and nearby and probably a bit cheaper than Bangor but not to far away either (hippo 123 in disguise).

How old are the children and would you like them to be able to speak Welsh? Most parents with children in Welsh medium schools in Wales can't speak welsh. I live in Gwynedd if you want to ask about anywhere in particular.

thanks Fairyegg and Cyrli
the kids are 9 and 12. Cyrli.

Hey, does anybody know good English-medium secondary schools? She is wanting to go sixthform in North Wales (She wants to live with her dad, previously lived with her mum in London). As she is 16 would it be too late for her to learn welsh as she knows none? She will live in Caernarfon and as far as I know Gwynedd doesnt have any, can anybody recommend any schools? Thanks.

Ysgol Friars would be her only option really for a levels in English medium. It's a good school though, based in Bangor. Easy to get to on the bus. Or coleg menai does a wide range of courses including a levels, mainly based in Bangor and mainly though English. It's never to late to learn a second language and to be honest living in Caernarfon she may pick it up quite quickly especially if her dad speaks welsh. There's a load of courses she could go on if she wished to learn the language.

All schools will be Welsh medium there. But your LO will be fine. Plenty start with no Welsh and they are fluent very quickly.

@Evbev just wondering how you got on? I am moving to Porthmadog with my 12 year old in November, he will be joining Porthmadog High School.
